Never Take a Big Hit

NEVER TAKE A BIG HIT (sometimes it happens when you are asleep or something, but most of the time can be avoided).
Big hits are often the result of misuse of leverage combined with stubborn attitude. Leverage is sexy, but extremely dangerous... it takes lots of skill to employ it, and all, and I mean all, the good traders I have known over the years treat it with kid gloves, never get hung out there with larger leverage (think of these "no down payment subprime loan homebuyers... it's all leverage). A good rule of thumb is the best use of leverage is NONE, all the way to MAX use of leverage at 10:1 only temporarily in those easy to read home run type of markets.
