Don't believe the hype. Officials with the Brazilian delegation and People's Bank of China put the kibosh on talk that Brazil and China might avoid the use of dollars as a settlement currency for bilateral trade, and use reals and yuan instead. "No doubt the two countries would like to settle trade flows in their own currencies," said Marc Chandler of BBH. "But neither country is really prepared for this." He added: "China is working toward making its currency convertible, but it is not there yet...Even for the euro zone, not much more than half their exports are invoiced in euros."

U.S. Needs More Inflation to Speed Recovery, Say Mankiw, Rogoff - May 19 (Bloomberg)

What the U.S. economy may need is a dose of good old-fashioned inflation.

So say economists including Gregory Mankiw, former White House adviser, and Kenneth Rogoff, who was chief economist at the International Monetary Fund. They argue that a looser rein on inflation would make it easier for debt-strapped consumers and governments to meet their obligations. It might also help the economy by encouraging Americans to spend now rather than later when prices go up.

“I’m advocating 6 percent inflation for at least a couple of years,” says Rogoff, 56, who’s now a professor at Harvard University. “It would ameliorate the debt bomb and help us work through the deleveraging process.” ... .. ...

For the moment, the Fed’s focus is on preventing deflation -- a potentially debilitating drop in prices and wages that makes debts harder to repay and encourages the postponement of purchases. The Labor Department reported May 15 that consumer prices were unchanged in April from the previous month and were down 0.7 percent from a year earlier.

“We are currently being very aggressive because we are trying to avoid” deflation, Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke told an Atlanta Fed conference on May 11.
--
Deflation: a process of money recovering previously lost value.

Bernanke and his FED are anti-people. Pure and simple.

This is a sentiment survey, so the more who participate the better! Thanks to all!

Participation was lackluster today. The bias about evenly split for €/$ from current levels. Yesterday the bias was for weakness and the markets moved the other way. As usual, it probably all depends on how shares perform. Today sees some closely followed U.S. housing data on the open.

GBP/JPY : The market is now working on the barrier of the daily cycle reference at 147.81 // 150.21. The market rhythm is represented by 2.4 (145.41 - 7.81 = 2.4) . I would assume that major market makers are making the move in the last 48 hours whenever the movement of the pair can be described by the reference cycle.

happy morning ... the gentleman in kong fu shoes is dead serious about AUD/USD going to 0.8000 region ... history is great indicator for the future ... therefore, I will not short AUD/USD before 0.79xx prints (or clear reversal signal) as any trade must consider also bailout levels and not only stops in case something goes wrong ... realizing the difference between trading and forecasting is a major step for profitable survival in this business ... I talk everything but scalps in this post ... happy trades :)

KOBE, Japan (AFP)--Japan reported 173 swine flu infections Tuesday and closed more than 4,000 schools, colleges and kindergartens for the rest of the week to slow the spread of the virus, officials said.

Experts warned that infections had probably already spread to other regions including the capital Tokyo, which with almost 36 million people is the world's most populous urban area and the heart of the Japanese economy.

RBA sounding more optimistic, but still wary of whether current signs of stabilization sustainable or not, meaning they remain poised to cut further if needed, says UBS Economist George Tharenou. Notes growth not expected to be above trend until 2011. "This suggests to us they still have a bias to ease, but are on hold at the moment. However, we would expect to see a rising unemployment rate to see them cut further to underpin confidence. That said, we continue to see upside risk to our 2% terminal cash rate target for later this year."

Reminder of GBPCAD needing lower print than 1.7547.
Also not an anomaly but 142.00/50 and may be lower on gbpjpy has some good merit. Some issues are surfacing in the GBP world in my view, which might make Cable very difficult to trade. GBPCHF should go higher so a mixed bag
looking forward imo.

8396 got solved and 8550 very near. I personally did not think 1 session was enough so missed the boat on that.
But for Yen crosses shorters keep in mind the 8550 for levels.
Might not yet be productive today to short unless short term job. Looks 2nd half of the week to me.

Forex Forum

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day. The forex blog articles come from outside sources, including forex brokers research as well as from the professionals at Global-View.com. This forex blog includes the Daily Forex View, Market Chatter and technical forex blog updates. In additional to its real time forex forum, there are also Member Forums available for more in depth forex trading discussions.
