The fed gives the green light to own stocks, on the last day of the month, in the first month of the year (after a 6 month rally). Portfolios need to be full of the winners.
Equity being eroded by sinking house prices can be replaced by buying paper and watching the value of stocks rise. Just as in a rising housing market, the rising stock market is built on the idea that someone will be willing to pay more tomorrow for what I just bought today...

Ready for any gifts from da fedsters!
If the fed announcement - surprisingly - will cause gold to run north, i'll try to jump on the leaving train ... at least one of my bags is empty and ready for new possies, so i can afford to take some risc.

I consider to take again some of the table. Again prefer the bird in the hand rather than two in the bush or in the sky.

GD, you got something for DJI? got a feeling we should test 12300-12400 again but from where? or is this a run towards 13k?
Alimin ... equities still tricky ... no advice therefore ... if 8.6y cycle is correct then end of 2007/02 should be near the top. But of course it could be earlier or later. BTW also 1998 wasn't the top!
Maybe it's better not to trade em yet. And if - have your stops places and don't take big positions yet.

revdax, some words of wisdom for your concideration from Cheng Siwei, vice-chairman of the National People’s Congress and an influential figure in Beijing financial circles:
...“There is a bubble going on. Investors should be concerned about the risks,” Mr Cheng said in an interview with the Financial Times.
“But in a bull market, people will invest relatively irrationally. Every investor thinks they can win. But many will end up losing. But that is their risk and their choice.”
He added: “You can’t take administrative measures to change people’s behaviour. The market is based on people’s behaviour. Investors will have to learn their own lessons.” - FT

May i have a further elaboration dear?
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Usually high oil means direction south for the transportation index - not a bit south when oil is up 3 bucks is VERY strange.

Australia's Qantas May Face Share Trading Probe
The Australian Securities and Investment Commission said Wednesday it wouldn't confirm or deny whether it is conducting inquiries into trading in Qantas Airways Ltd. (QAN.AU) shares, related to its A$11.1 billion takeover bid by a private equity consortium.
An article in Tuesday's Australian Financial Review said the Australian Securities Exchange has asked the corporate regulator to investigate the heavy trading volumes and share price movements in Qantas shares that surrounded the announcement by the airline Nov. 22 that it had received an approach by Macquarie Bank Ltd. (MBL.AU) and Texas Pacific Group on behalf of a consortium.
The newspaper said ASIC sent letters to the consortium and the airline that asked for the names of all employees aware of the approach before Nov. 22.
A spokeswoman for ASIC told Dow Jones Newswires, in line with normal practice, she couldn't confirm or deny if any inquiries into Qantas share trading are being made.

A switch in expectations of 2007 supply deficit to surplus for zinc continues to "haunt" market, says Standard Bank. Re-adjustment of expectations would constitute switch from "one extreme to the other," with high volume of Chinese net exports November, December 2006 pointing to even higher exports this year. "We believe that these volumes were partly inspired by change in tax regime in China in September 2006 which allowed existing contracts to be honored," Standard says, keeping close watch on Chinese zinc trade data in days ahead. LME 3-month zinc trades at $3,383/ton, down $12 on LME Tuesday kerb bid price.
