FX Blog: Market Snapshot Europe Mid-Session
GVI Market Snapshot-- Europe Mid-Session
- The USD is opening roughly steady in N.Y. from late Thursday levels. Anticipation of the monthly employment report on Friday kept many on the sidelines. Street chatter is for a worse than expected release due to the January seasonals, despite the ADP data. Also benchmark revisions could dominate the market response to the report.
- U.S. share markets are currently seen opening mixed. Asian equities were mixed, while European bourses are trading better. Bond prices are higher.
- Concerns about the captialization of the monoline bond insurers remain.
- The commodity currencies (AUD, CAD, NZD) are firmer. Toushin (Japanese Investment Trust) demand has been cited in the Aussie and kiwi. End of month CAD selling is now out of the market. Gold is better. Oil prices are a touch weaker after OPEC agreed to maintain current production levels.
