Friday's Events: Cdn Wholesale Sales, Leading Index, Fed's Lacker, Rosengren
07:11 04/18 (CEP News) - Leading economic indicators and wholesale
sales for Canada, along with comments from Richmond Fed President
Jeffrey Lacker (non-voter) and Eric Rosengren (non-voter) of the Boston
Fed will complete the week's major economic events.
a.m. EDT, Statistics Canada will release its leading economic
indicators for March, which economists expected to be unchanged after
the figure fell 0.3% month-over-month in February.
Also at 8:30 a.m., Statistics Canada will release wholesale sales for
February. Economists are expecting a 0.4% month-over-month increase
following January's 2.6% gain.
At the same time, Richmond Fed President Jeffrey Lacker (non-voter) and
Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren (non-voter) will participate in a
panel discussion on "Liquidity and Systemic risk in the Financial
System", at the Richmond Bank's 2008 Credit Markets Symposium in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
At 9:30 a.m. EDT, Philadelphia Fed President Charles Plosser (voter)
will speak at the 26th Annual Monetary and Trade Conference on turmoil
in U.S. credit markets in Philadelphia. An audience Q&A will follow.
At 10 a.m. EDT, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will release
regional and state employment and unemployment for March. In February,
20 states and the District of Columbia recorded over-the-month
unemployment rate decreases, while 19 states registered increases and
11 states registered no change.
At 10:45 a.m. EDT, Former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan and the European
Commission's president Jos√© Manuel Durao Barroso will participate in a
conference on growth in Turin, Italy.
At 11:30, New York Fed Vice-President Til Schuermann and Moody's
Managing Director David Fanger will participate in a panel discussion
at the Richmond Bank's 2008 Credit Markets Symposium in Charlotte,
