Market Update: Equities Down, Treasuries Flattening and U.S. Dollar Sliding
14:49 04/21 (CEP News) - North American fixed income markets are mixed, as are equities, with yields on U.S. 10-year Treasury Notes flat at 3.71% and Canadian 10-year CGBs down 2.4 bps to 3.67%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is trading down 55.93 points to 12793.43 and the S&P TSX Composite Index up 64.91 points to 14301.97. The Canadian dollar is down 0.20 cents to 0.9943 USD and the euro is up 1.00 cents to 1.5912 USD.
Yields on two-year Canadian government bonds were down 1.8 bps to 2.85%, five-year yields down 2.7 bps to 3.16%, 10-year yields down 2.4 bps to 3.67% and 30-year yields down 2.1 bps to 4.12%.
U.S. two-year yields were up 2.5 bps to 2.15%, five-year yields up 2.8 bps to 2.93%, 10-year yields flat at 3.71% and 30-year yields down 2.3 bps to 4.47%.
The Eurodollar June 08 contract was up 3.0 ticks to 97.12. The 10/2 year spread flattened 2.44 bps to 154.69.
In Germany, returns on two-year German Bunds were down 3.6 bps to 3.80%, five-year yields down 4.8 bps to 3.87%, 10-year yields down 1.8 bps to 4.12% and 30-year yields down 1.0 bps to 4.66%.
Yields on UK two-year bonds were down 2.4 bps to 4.34%, five-year yields down 4.0 bps to 4.37%, 10-year yields down 5.5 bps to 4.67% and 30-year yields down 3.3 bps to 4.57%.
Toronto's S&P TSX composite index was up 64.91 points to 14301.97, the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 55.93 points to 12793.43, the S&P 500 down 5.35 points to 1384.98 and the NASDAQ down 0.25 points to 2402.72.
European stock markets are closed, with the Eurostoxx down 32.90 points to 3165.53, the UK FTSE 100 down 3.50 points to 6053.00 and the German DAX down 56.53 points to 6786.55.
Toronto's S&P TSX composite index closed up 64.91 points to 14301.97, the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 55.93 points to 12793.43, the S&P 500 down 5.35 points to 1384.98 and the NASDAQ down 0.25 points to 2402.72.
European stock markets closed in negative territory with the Eurostoxx down 32.90 points to 3165.53, the UK FTSE 100 down 3.50 points to 6053.00 and the German DAX down 56.53 points to 6786.55.
The Canadian dollar was down 0.20 cents to 0.9943 against the USD (1.00619 USD/CAD) and down 0.50 cents to 1.6011 against the euro.
The U.S. dollar was down 0.56 to 103.12 against the yen and the euro up 1.00 cents to 1.5912 against the U.S. dollar. The pound sterling was down 1.80 cents to 1.9802 USD and the Australian dollar was higher by 0.70 cents to 0.9419 USD. The U.S. Dollar Index was down 0.288 points to 71.724.
Futures on WTI crude oil are up $0.37 to $116.53 while gold futures at the Chicago Board of Trade are up $5.30 to $920.50.
