European Market Update: European Bonds Rise, Equities Lower, Euro Retreats
07:12 04/23 (CEP News) - European equity markets are trading lower
with the Eurostoxx losing 30.92 points on the day. In Germany, the bund
was up 29.0 ticks to 114.05 with yields down 2.3 bps to 4.13% while the
10-year gilt was up 28.0 ticks to 108.60 with yields down 3.2 bps to
4.66%. The euro was down 0.26 cents to 1.5966 USD.
five-year Bobl was up 26.0 ticks to 108.68, the two-year Schatz was up
11.5 ticks to 103.68 and the June 2008 Euribor contract was trading up
5.5 ticks to 95.31.
The spread between the 10-year Bund and 10-year U.S. Treasury notes widened 1.665 bps to -43.20.
Yields on the UK's 30-year bond were down 2.5 bps to 4.52%, the
five-year bond down 1.7 bps to 4.44% and the two-year bond down 0.3 bps
The September 2008 Short Sterling contract was up 4.0 ticks to 94.49.
Yields on U.S. 10-year Treasury notes were up 0.2 bps to 3.693%.
European stock markets were declining with the Eurostoxx down 30.92
points to 3117.69, the UK FTSE 100 down 47.10 points to 5987.602 and
the German DAX down 55.39 points to 6672.91.
The Japanese Nikkei was trading up 31.34 points to 13579.16.
The Canadian dollar was up 0.01 cents to 0.9920 against the USD (1.008
USD/CAD). Against the euro, the loonie was up 0.11 cents to 0.6213
The U.S. dollar was down 0.10 to 102.93 and the euro was down 0.41 to 164.34, both against the yen.
The euro was down 0.26 cents to 1.5966 while the pound sterling was down 0.56 cents to 1.9897, both against the USD.
The euro was up 0.10 cents to 0.8025 pounds.
The Swiss franc was down 0.32 cents to 1.0064 against the USD and down 0.24 cents to 1.6067 against the euro.
