FX BLog - Economic Data Preview For Friday
GVI Forex Data Preview
Thursday will be another active session on the data front. The Swiss National Bank has little room left on the downside to cut rates further. At this point, any action would only be token. Later U.K. retail sales will be another key indicator of how the economy is recovering. Canadian inflation data are released before the North American open. Bank of Canada policy is frozen until at least 2Q10. In the U.S., weekly jobless claims are closely watched as the most current employment indicator. Analysts expect an outcome below 600K for the week. Later the Philly Fed Index is always seen as a bellwether of how the national PMI will come out. The leading indicator is a dated statistic. Weekly natural gas inventories can impact prices in the energy complex.
CH- SNB Decision- very important. No change expected.
UK- Retail Sales- important- key measure of domestic activity. Seen less strong.
CA- CPI- very important- BOC targets inflation. Rates on hold until 2010. Seen lower.
US- Mortgage Statistics- important- Leading housing indicator.
US- Weekly Jobless- Very important- Most current reading on employment. Seen modestly better.
US- Philly Fed- important- Key regional PMI. Seen less weak.
US- Leading Indicator- watched- Composite of already released data. Seen higher.
US- Natural Gas- important- impacts energy prices.
