Focus Fed policy direction. Active week in store
|Focus Fed policy direction. Active week in store|
15 July 2013 00:00 gmt
CALENDAR: Far East: No Major Data. Europe: No Major Data. North America: US- Retail Sales, Empire PMI, Business Inventories.
- HIGH IMPACT ITEMS: US- Retail Sales
- Even if the Fed tapers its asset purchase program as planned, it is estimated that the central bank will wind up with with USD 4tln in U.S. debt on its books. Bernanke has been trying to put an end to the Asset Purchase Program while keeping interest rates low. Short term markets have cooperated, but the longer term markets have been skeptical and very volatile.
- .The prospect of an easy Fed policy well into the future has hit the USD hard in the latter part of the latest week, but gave equities a boost. We expect the markets to remain hyper-sensitive to economic data releases.
- Sovereign debt yields in Europe traded higher in Portugal as the political will for austerity appears to be wavering.
- The week ahead features: semi-annual Congressional testimony (Wednesday and Thursday) by Fed Chairman Bernanke, U.S. Retail Sales data, the German ZEW survey, a Bank of Canada policy decision and a slew of U.K. data. The calendar includes much more in the way of key releases.
- For additional key items and more detail (dates, times, data estimates), be sure to reference our Economic Calendar and the Forex Forum as key items are released.
