- The USD traded broadly weaker Thursday, as the disappointment over the Trump press conference Wednesday carried over for another day. Nevertheless, the unit is closing well off its lows vs. the majors. Markets had been hoping to see more in the way of an economic program from the new administration.
- The GBPUSD has been the exception Thursday. It is lower vs. the USD and even weaker vs. the EUR. Markets continu to fret off and on about Brexit. This state of affairs is unlikely to change soon.
- The top item of the week is retail sales data due on Friday. The retail sector is the main driver of the U.S. economy. Next Monday, U.S. markets are closed for the Martin Luther King Holiday. President-elect Trump will be inaugurated as President one week from Friday, on January 20.
