- Tuesday was monthend which typically subdues institutional participation. The reaction to Yellen's statement made last Friday that a rate hike in "coming months" would probably be appropriate has started to abate. I took "coming months" to mean June or July. However, her statement gives the Fed room to delay a hike should "Brexit" become a source of market instability.
- This will continue to be an active week on the data front. Major items include final global Manufacturing and Service PMIs on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. OPEC gets together on Thursday. No production changes are foreseen. Also on Thursday, the ECB meets. No rate changes are predicted. The latest U.S. non-farm payroll report is released on Friday. A tepid jobs figure is expected.
- The EURUSD tested below 1.1100 Monday, but it then rebounded to just above 1.1170 on Tuesday. EURUSD looks to be in a rough 1.1100 to 1.1200 range at the current time. The GBP fell Tuesday afternoon in London following new Bexit polls that put "Leave" in the lead. The ECB meeting Thursday and U.S. Employment data Friday could be decisive items for setting the near-term bias of this pair.
- The May U.S. Conference Board Sentiment Survey missed street estimates, while the Core PCE delator which the Fed targets (2.00%), was steady at 1.60% y/y. German May employment continued to improve, while April Retail Sales were mixed to weaker.
