pecs andras - yes that might be true - but the market had fallen through 1.6080 earlier and now to be selling after the central bank had not lowered interest rates - it lacked a reason to keep falling from 1.6162 earlier to 1.6030 - so the price had any bad news or long positions factored into it at that time - anyway i meant it as a discussion or learning point - and that point is anticipate not react gl to u

Dow Jones] General USD malaise may prove boon for some stock markets, including those in Asia, say analysts: When trade-weighted USD falls, Japan equities historically perform strongest; "it seems strange to see Japan outperformance associated with dollar weakness (but) it is the defensive sectors there that outperform the U.S. when the dollar weakens," says Merrill Lynch. Weak USD may also spur U.S. investors to park money in offshore bourses

Livingston nh 23:28 GMT January 9, 2003 : I think you're right:the big foreign sell-off hasn't started yet. I was in the Treasury market today: the early US session drop was mostly due to a flood of corporate supply and a big-name asset reallocation out of fixed and into eqs. This afternoon was mostly reduced war premium (Blix).

I guess you are right, but note also that cable broke a support at 6040, so maybe that was the reason the guy went short. It did bounce back from 6025 though, so the short is vulnerable (or stopped out already) but in that case I would use a wider stop.

in other words why not sell 1.6130-60 and buy 1.6030-60 - and anticipate the move - rather than sell at 1.6030-35 after the move has happened.gl

sarasota jf 23:25 GMT January 9, 2003 Reply
i just want to point out one thing for traders who are starting out. I saw a post earlier about someone who sold gbp at 1.6035 with a stop at 1.6065 - the market had earlier in asia risen to 1.6162 from an open around 1.6120 later in the global day gbp turned lower and traded down near 1.6030 before bouncing too 1.6075 ish. obviously this trade did not work out for that person- you must anticipate a move via tech or fund analysis not react to a move - in my experience a market would normally trade no more than 100 points in a session - so if you sell or buy at a 100 point session low or high be sure there is a market moving factor to keep the move going and not simply giving the person who sold higher an offer to take profit..... or a bid alternatively. you should keep an eye on the 100 point range and you wll see it does occur alot ... gl with the market.....

Having said that, I should also say that a significant increase in liquidity - if it is going to be seen at all in Asia - will generally be seen after 0000 GMT when Tokyo is fully awake....

Morwen, it is currently noon in Wellington NZ, 10 a.m. in Sydney, 8 a.m. in Tokyo, and 7 a.m. in Hong Kong and Singapore. "When does the market open in Asia?" is a fairly tricky question, I should say.

Provo John - thanks! Actually in this system you don't make the trade until you are already in the money, which means that you get in a little late and out a little late. Looks like it catches most of the big moves - not too good in mostly sideways markets. thoughts?

asia session
yesterday japanese traders initiated long usdyen positions due to kampo bidding on the bottom of usdyen = this will limit usdyen upside today and should see usdyen fall back to 119.10// eur we saw the options protection selling on the top however it is not right to initiate short positions at this level - both eur and gbp should push higher and in fact have some chance to break the barrier in eur tonight. Im wrong if euro closes below 1.0450 on a hourly basis ranges i expect for asia 10-50 usdyen /70-10 euro/55-95 gbp gl and of course this is my view feel free to post yours

Provo John 22:58 GMT January 9, 2003 Reply
Philly brm 22:33, What you have to determine when backtesting ANY system is how much against you does the trade go before you are in the money and are your pockets deep enough to hold out? The system you describe sounds like a position trading system. As such deeper pockets are needed.

Hi - was wondering if anyone has an opinion regarding EURGBP cross
If one looks at a weekly chart there seems to be a very big level around 0.6555 if we get above I feel we could breakout 50/100 pips staight away... however i would tend to fade this move going short around 44-48 level with a tight stop at 0.6557 and flip on break and go long with t/p at 0.6590- am hearing the move up last night was attributed to some bond buying around 3.8 BN - Thoughts anyone??

Hi - I'm looking at a system that only generates 3-5 buy/sell signals a year so you might be in same position for 4-6 months and not in at all for weeks. Since April 02, usd/yen up 1600 pips, Euro/$ up 1100 pips, GBP/$ up 900 pips per my own backtesting - what am I missing as possible negatives? thx

Moscow vsoft, I have been in contact with CQG and they were "STUNED" when they saw your software and stated they have no knowledge of your company. As their software development team is also in Moscow they are "gravely" concerned. In addition, your software is nearly an exact duplicate of theirs right down to the placement of the logo! If you are associated with CQG, why did they not know about you? If you are legit, I would sign up in a heart beat should CQG give you a clean bill of rights.

The Ichimoku indicator, and its omnonous cloud formations is extremely popular in Japan but hasn't caught on in the states. I highly doubt the 85% success rate as there are millions of currency traders in Japan still "pluggin away" on a daily basis. Needless to say, that kind of success rate would result in millions of Japanese living in Hawaii instead of just going their to shop and get married.

the eurusd cross looks better and better
late NYC low at 1,0480/85 even not tested,
shows by my logic how strong is interest to buy the euro.
we made new high today and 1,0550 option there to catch,
sound promising even today to go and see if 1,0580 is tradeable :=

Israel, I chose censored and i'm content with them though their charts could be more stable. Just recently someone told me about FXsolutions and am contemplating on switching for the following reasons:
NO slippage at all on entry limit or entry stop orders. They do re-quote you if the price has changed while you are entering a market order, but this is standard market practice (censored is one of the worst at that).

Trading software: best market feed in the world EBS (Electronic Broking System) - the same software and price quotes that only banks have access to. These are the quotes that the 13 banks that make up the "inter-bank market" give to one another. It is the ultimate price feed and, therefore, FX Solutions has premium quotes.

This software allows one trade to be entered for all managed accounts, and the back office work is done instantly.

Three charting packages. Two of these are free charts, one is premium professional charts. The free charts are up-to-the second charts that reflect exactly the FX Solutions quotes. They allow you to program in indicators and generate buy/sell signals on the chart. They have just about every indicator available, AND you have the capability to enter trades right off of the chart itself, so you never have to leave the chart.

These are the best free charts available. The professional charts run for about $250 a month for non-FX Solutions clients, and are discounted for FX Solutions clients who want or need professional charts.

What a day yesterday. So lucky..despite being bearish on EUR/GBP and CHF yesterday our system triggered sells in all those, plus taken profit-targets all out. Meanwhile, I still had BUY signals in all the above, on a different "timeframe", just sitting in the market.

So I went home with EUR still at 1.0385, CHF at 1.4025 GBP at 1.5978, feeling good about a profitable day. Early evening out of interest I switched on CNBC and I had to do the double-take thingy. I phoned my partner, and all those old positioned got triggered AND taken profit EVERYWHERE.

A red letter day indeed. I wish the same days to all you guys.

From a pure technical perspective, eur/usd can slowly grind its way up, but any upmove from here looks unsustainable. Eur/gbp is below 0.6550, eur/chf has run away from 1.4540, cable is under 1.615, gbp/chf is holding pretty well above its previous reaction low. My point is that these crosses do not support substantial upmove, but rathet point to a meduim top building process. Riding the trend is another matter. GL+GT all!!!

Mkt Talk: EUR-USD volatile after many traders were wrong footed in NY by the surge from sub-1.0400 levels to 3-year highs at 1.0535. A negative USD view from Pimco, falling US stock markets (voting with their feet on Bush stimulus package) & the geopolitical backdrop have supported the pair. There was talk of a large bid from a spec fund. There are also rumours of an ECB rate cut as soon as today's meeting, given weak eurozone data of late & speculation today's German unemployment figures will disappoint. A rate cut could be considered EUR-positive on pro-growth grounds. EUR looks set to trade under the 1.0535 high & 1.0550 option barriers (said to be topside of a 1.0350/1.0550 DNT) into 8:50 GMT release of German labour data & ECB meeting. sp/ap

Tyson Says Bush Stimulus Package Negative For US Economy
The dean of the London Business School Laura Tyson Thursday criticized the 10-year economic stimulus package proposed by U.S. President George W. Bush, saying its effects on the U.S. economy won't be felt anytime soon.

"More than half of the Bush 10-year figure is the dividend tax adjustment and it doesn't take effect anywhere near the time that the economy needs economic stimulus," said Tyson, who was an economic adviser to former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

"It just makes the long-term deficit outlook that much more negative, so I think the Bush package is a negative for the U.S. economy," she added.

The U.S. president's plan would allow taxpayers to exclude corporate dividend payments from their taxable income.

Furthermore, Tyson noted that the $674 billion package is unlikely to be approved by lawmakers in its original state.

"It's not likely to pass in anywhere near that magnitude and I think that's the best thing that could happen, for it not to pass," Tyson added.

last leg=5th wave....pivot=turning point
ie: $yen last pivot high 125.81 on 12/05/02
daily chart appear to show 5th wave position from that top
intraday charts appear to show 4th/5th wave position from yesterday minor pivot high 120.61.
In Elliott Wave analysis this would indicate a probable turning point
for a few days or more....

Mkt Talk: USD-JPY ebbs back lower towards 119.00 in nervous trade. USD selling continues to be the favorite play, although sellers have been quick to book profits given risk of BoJ intervention. Nikkei report that Asahi Mutual Life and Millea holdings are in final stages of talk to drop their plan to integrate their operations has fueled concerns over the future of Asahi and led to JPY-positive speculation of possible repatriation of foreign assets, although many believe that any repatriation has been largely done by now (Asahi & Millea commented earlier that no decision had been made yet). Importer and profit taking bids are reported into overnight lows of 118.65 & 118.50, while sell stops are likely below 118.30

G'morn folks ... imvho BOJ will not intervene, at least not when the markets are hoping that they would. In $:Y I still see a faint hope of recovery among market participants, which technically speaking, has still not satisfied the despondency trough. And as we all know, technically speaking again, there can be no meaningful recovery, if there is no despondency.

Singapore WN 03:02 GMT January 9, 2003 Reply
Good Morning all- Tokyo Jon mate lets chat ...
Guys in my humble opinion we will not see BOJ action until the market is really short and in my view we are not yet , last night the forum positions above 119.80 in a way proved that.
Also the BOJ will not try change market sentiment , any intervention will be a smoothing operation and the USD will trade lower after that. Yes in July they intervened and we saw the USD down to 115.50/75 area and many were looking for sub 110.00 area but instead we saw 125+ briefly ... In other word the BOJ lost the battle but won the war .. Yes EURJPY buying helped.
Also note guys besides direct intervention these has been talk that they should buy more foreign bonds and this is basically a de facto intervention ... so I expect to the USD to trade lower , I will always have intervention stops above the market ..... IMVHO

Regis, it will all depend on what the european central bank will do tomorrow . In case of a rate cut ,this might propell a rally in european bourses and more inflows in the euro zone , hence a higher euro . And if they don't cut the yield on the euro is still higher than the dollar . So it's a win-win situation for the euro for the timebeing . Add to that the mounting tone of the war against Irak ,and the outflow of funds from the US stockmarket - still deemed overvalued by any measure - people took advantage of yesterday's huge rally to sell stocks and buy gold . So, I would expect a higher euro in the long run ,barring any catastrophic economic situation in europe ,like huge bankrupcies and the like .

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--U.S. intelligence sources say the wife of Iraq's former oil minister has disappeared, apparently to keep her from talking to U.N. weapons inspectors, NBC News reported Wednesday.
Rihab Taha, a scientist, was questioned by U.N. inspectors in the 1990's about what was believed to be her central role in developing biological weapons. Her husband, Lt. Gen. Amer Mohammed Rashid, resigned Tuesday as oil minister, with the Iraqi News Agency saying he had reached the mandatory retirement age.
NBC News reported Rashid had many contacts in the West, and President Saddam Hussein felt he couldn't be trusted.
NBC News also reported that U.N. officials say that when the leadersof the inspections team make a formal report to the Security Council Jan. 27, they will say they need an additional eight months to a year to finish their job in Iraq. The network also reported that several U.S. B-1 bombers left their base in South Dakota Wednesday, headed for the Persian Gulf region. Eight to 10 of the B-1's will "probably be stationed in Oman," NBC News said in a report on its Web site.
