Mkt Talk: AUD-USD Over the previous few week's "traders" have been thinking the RBA will ease 25bps today, but these expectations have been wound back significantly this week and have helped AUD-USD make a new yearly high towards 0.6780 Tuesday. If RBA leaves rates steady today view is that Aussie will not race away higher (especially with AUD-EUR and AUD-JPY currently at such rich levels), the bigger move is likely to happen if the RBA eases with a pullback towards 0.6730 initially

Yes I do, but sometimes, if I see a cross in the middle of nowhere, I'll go looking for lines that are not where they belong. If I see something that "shouldn't" be happening, it makes me look closer at the situation, which is a very good thing at times.

Thx Razvan, I am using fxtrk desktop as well... On a hourly chart for instance, drawing a line and extending it can lead to a huge gap, depending on where you draw your starting point... I was just curious if any software would exist, which could identify swings and draw a line precisely, that's all :-)
BTW, the two t/l on stochs for EUR hourly chart are about to cross. Does the fact that the stochs has crossed the lower t/l to the downside mean that we can expect a move down?
Although it's pretty late here (1am...), am always keen to learn... Thank you all :-)

A rate cut could see quite a drop in the AUD as its at a 4yr high with many looking to lock in profits - market will typically start talking about the next one, especially if the retail sales and housing numbers come in on the weak side. JIMHO

The Australian dollar surged to its highest level in over five years overnight. The local currency continued its winning streak, pushing to a high of US67.77 - its highest level since March 1998.
Westpac Banking Corp New York-based currency strategist Richard Franulovich said weaker than expected United States manufacturing data had instigated the overnight gains. "The Australian dollar has been well bid .. The ISM [Institute of Supply Management] data triggered another bout of US dollar selling and the Aussie was dragged along by that," he said. "There is also some residual demand from people expecting the RBA [Reserve Bank of Australia] to hold its fire." The nation's central bank will announce at 9.30am (AEST) whether interest rates will be dropped from their current level of 4.75 per cent. Expectations that the RBA will cut rate have dramatically decreased over the past few days, sending the Australian dollar higher. Mr Franulovich said the market had now fully priced in a no rate move. However, there was still a probability, albeit slight, that the RBA would ease rates and that could cause a large fall in the local currency.

The triangle formation you pointed out should cross on the hourly charts rather soon.. I'm very anxious to see what happens!

Also, I noted that 38.2% of the bigger picture downward move from 06/16 1.1930 to yesterday's 1.1400 comes around 1.1614, so resistance there should be quite tough, I guess..

Drawing a TL thru the first stoch [email protected]:00EST, I have the TL I was referring too. There is another dip @9:00EST 6/30 that is the basis for another TL drawn, but a lot of times the stoch jumps from line to line. So the one you are goin off of hsan't crossed yet, but when it does, there will be a movement of some kind. That is guaranteed.

JSH, a bpip I call a base pip, the ammount of pips per trade gained/lossed if the trade was a (1) lot trade. Since I don't trade single lots anymore, wouldn't want to come on here and say I just netted 500 pips on that swissy short earlier, it would confuse people, so my gains/losses posted are "per lot traded" if that makes it clearer.

Bch, will do in a few minutes.

So as the price keeps climbing, the stoch peaks get lower, gives nice early warninh of reversal coming up.

The moves seen thus far today may well indicate that a short term correction has been completed, given that EUR/$ was capped by last week's highs, $/CHF reached and bounced off its nearest support line 1.3360-65 and $/JPY tested its old broken long term line around 119 and stayed above. In any case and by my tech, buying the Dollar dips is the preferred tactic for the time being. As I posted a few days ago, the medium term USD corrective recent uptrend has anyway been a bit fast and already covered a good part of my projected correction, hence my warning at the time for intermediate short term USD downward corrections to gibe the medium term move necessary time and correct (USD) overbought conditions seen last week. Please note that even further (lower) Dollar levels, if seen, don't mean for a major reverdal (i.e. a resumption of the previous Dollar downtrend) unless they extend beyond certain levels which are out of reach for now. Good luck.

Indonesia solo raden mas 16:33 GMT July 1, 2003 Reply
eur/gbp still valid to move up at 0.7005 (first)and then little pullback, and this case (if pulback down) that's mean good for buying again to get level 0.7043 and then pullback so far.(have given buy signal).

EUR/USD: 1 hour stochs (14,3,3) show an upward t/l started 06/26, which held today. Also, 5 min charts show support around 1.1578, 61.8% fibo of today's 1.1528-1.1613 movement. IMVHO, we may still see a run at 1.1600 today (don't have a clear view on a possible break above that today).

Actually, they have started suffering rather serious losses (like 3000 bucks on a deal). This does not look good for me. And this does shatter a euphorea that was created in my head after a string of their successes...May be they are not so cool as they appear tobe?

Rivonia Pippirate,
Gold have get bottom at 342.xx. This level is ending scenario down for middle term and price will up to 353.00 (little pullback) and then move up again to 359.00.
short term will up to 353.00, and if price move down to 345.75 this level is good for buy again.
middle term will get 359.00
Long term will down to 330.10
I think if price get 359.00 you can try sell there to get 330.10 as profit target level.

Mid Term View on Gbp/Usd. Following on from last weeks correction mode, where as some significant levels were tested including 0.236 Fib support at 1.6564 from 1.5460 - 1.6906 period and 0.236 / 0.382 & 0.50 fib levels from the minor cycle of 1.6230 - 1.6906. Todays first fibo resistance comes to play at 1.6572 of which we are playing with now, second at 1.6650. From my model ( levels generated 8 weeks ago) , 1.6453 reads as Major support ( which was tested twice on
Friday and Monday ) with 1.6551 / 1.6600 and 1.6633 as levels of interest. I believe cable still has a possible target level @ 1.6688 & 1.6745 but I expect any rally to meet sellers. From my perivous post: cable has to close below 1.6633 to keep correction mode in place. FWIW I'm still holding shorts from last week from 1.6780.

Regarding earlier BEAST comments, things that have me nervous towards shorting it:
30 min %R50 was holding a TLR, but it slipped across & is using it as support now, 5 min 50,3,3 stoch refuses to come below 75 when the 14,3,3 does, (means the "up trend" is still in place)

So, we just have to be prepared for anything is what I'm saying now.

RMS, That 30 min 200 EMA has been like $$$ in the bank these last few weeks...LOl , provides good solid resistance to sell into, with a SAR about 20 pips above it for a breakout. FWIW I like to have something to play it against. That is NOT a reccomendation to short it from current level though. Let it fall & pick you up on its way.

I dont see how you can class the move for the AUD in recent months as anyhting other than dramatic and substantial.

Dallas GEP 01:35 GMT July 1, 2003 Reply
Mel, I have always hoped for a stronger Aussie. Seems like over the last two years whenever the Aussie had a REAL opportunity to bust long aggressively, it failed. I know because I must have made that play a couple of dozen times with visions of 150-200 PIP gains and it just didn't happen.

Maybe it's because the Aussie has very little in the way of inherent strength in itself as a currency. I don't know what it is really. So if history repeats itself, the the Aussie WON'T be taking off anytime soon.

Well medium term in FX (few months) I stand by the comment that a no move would be AUD positive....further out than that there are a myriad of things here and abroad that will influence....short to medium term its yield, and a generally weakening USD cycle that BC talks alot about.

Have a look at the AUD on crosses....gbp, eur, jpy, chf....trading very bullishly and breaking some massive longer term levels.

Costello is a total political animal...everything he says has to be set agst the background of him angling for the PMs job. If there is a rate cut, Macfarlane will have gone with his political side, to keep Henry and Costello onside, but I cant see them really pushing that hard for a cut, given the overall circumstances in the economy....much hot air really.

Mel 01:11 GMT July 1, 2003 Reply
melb th.....sorry but disagree totally.....a no move will be extremely AUD positive and would see it break well thru this years highs so far.....the chase for yield is the fashion, and with 25 pt cut priced in just about, any no move will get a significant reaction.

As for the economy, the last thing it needs is aggressive rate cuts.....that will just blow the property bubble up even more and encourage consumers already loaded with debt, to borrow even more, creating potentially damaging effects down the road. Everything is ticking along fine here, unemployment is low by historical standards and showing no signs of increasing (forward indicators like NAB biz survey employment intentions, job ads, vacancies etc holding up fine), GDP strong and being held back only by temporary drought factor (rain is and has been falling inland recently)...

All in all, RBA can comfortably sit tight and watch, knowing that the economy is runnign fine, that interest rates are already stimulatory and fuelling a consumer driven boom anyway.

Most of the local banks appear to be strongly lobbying for a cut. This may just be a PR pose but they sometimes give good arguments.
Treasury has indicated that they are seriously concerned at the rate level.
I suspect that most of the big money has priced in 25 points.
The effect of a 25 point cut would be minimal to slightly -ve. In longer term no cut would seem as seriously damaging to economy so very -ve AUD. A 50 pt cut would be seen as very +ve for economy and could have end result of stronger AUD. Despite ready availability of offshore capital at current differentials the takeup profile is causing serious structural imbalances.
Housing is slowing. Investment property interest has dropped due to possibility of global (ie US)recovery in equities. Investors are now wary of property value collapse or gluts. Govt can reduce new housing by dropping the subsidy rate.

re property bubble the rba should leave rates @ 4.75 and let the ccy go to 70c this might add some supply to the property market as many offshore investors in property who bought the ccy @ 50/55 cents and parked it in property have made 50-100pct returns on the asset and another 20-30 pct on the currency play ... not a bad investment for many asian and european punters over the last 12-24 months !!

AUD is looking to break to new highs over the next few days .. the only thing standing in its path at the moment is the RBA decision to cut or not to cut .. the interest rate market has this as a 50/50 bet at the moment , if the RBA was to sit on the sidelines and leave rates unchanged the 375bp premium to the usd and 475bp premium to YEN will attract more buyers than for a superbowl final .. and 70c here we come...... the rba have a problem ... if they leave rates here spot higher if they cut rates then they will send the wrong message to the local property market ,, adding more fuel to the fire there... I am glad I am not a central banker

BOJ June tankan "certainly better than expected," especially large manufacturers' business sentiment, suggesting there may be some upside for nation's struggling economy, says HSBC Securities economist Peter Morgan.

Forex Forum

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day. The forex blog articles come from outside sources, including forex brokers research as well as from the professionals at Global-View.com. This forex blog includes the Daily Forex View, Market Chatter and technical forex blog updates. In additional to its real time forex forum, there are also Member Forums available for more in depth forex trading discussions.
