Reading for today:
eurusd: some initial moment bullish and then bearish, except my 15 min. readings which needs eurusd to go a bit higher before going into my sell zone, all others are waiting to move down so that they can come into my buy zone, 1hr,4hr,daily,weekly are all in sell zone wanting to go down for getting into my buy zone. so, final comment on eurusd is: sell on rally.

Ecofin Unanimous In Condemning Dollar's Fall
We're worried about the rapid and destabilizing evolution of the world currency markets," Sarkozy said. "It's clear the greenback has become unhinged compared to the world's other currencies...Now it's up to the Americans to respond."
He said in conversations with Jean-Claude Trichet, the European Central Bank President also expressed concerns about the runaway euro and that Trichet said he intended to pass those concerns on to U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan Friday, when the two central bankers meet in Frankfurt. Sarkozy said concerns about dollar-euro volatility are shared by officials across Europe. "There was totally unanimous agreement among the European Central Bank, the (E.U.) Commission and the finance ministers," Sarkozy said.

European Union finance ministers were unanimous in condemning the dollar's recent plummet against the euro, French Finance Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said late Monday.
Speaking shortly after European finance ministers adjourned a Monday night meeting, Sarkozy said it's now up to the U.S. to respond to the situation, which threatens to derail Europe's fragile, export-led economic recovery.
The European finance ministers are gathered in Brussels for a regular monthly gathering. This will likely be Sarkozy's last, as he leaves his post to assume the presidency of his center-right French political party later this month.

IMM specs at record net long euro positions - CFTC
Mon Nov 15, 2004 04:23 PM ET
NEW YORK, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Currency speculators on the Chicago futures market added to net long euro positions in the week ended Nov. 9, marking a second consecutive record, data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission showed on Monday.
"Long" positions are de facto bets a specific currency will strengthen, while "short" positions are effectively bets it will weaken.

According to the data, euro futures speculators net long position increased to 57,529 contracts, from 53,465 contracts the previous week.

"Specs in general are really keen to play this as the trend of the fourth quarter ... A lot of them need to make up for the second and third quarters, which were so quiet and rangebound," said Sean Callow, currency strategist with research firm IDEAglobal in New York.
Extreme net long positions often signal a decline in a currency going forward since the buildup of positions reflects what has already happened as opposed to the risk of a reversal when the market is heavily positioned one way.

"The ongoing but not necessarily imminent threat is that if there is a catalyst for a correction ... then it could be really violent," Callow said.

WASHINGTON, Nov 15 (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve must keep raising interest rates to keep inflation at bay, a panel of top economists said on Monday, and they also urged the U.S. central bank to adopt inflation targeting.

Notice what has happened in the subsequent development
of 'a' cycle top last Friday of Euro.

(1)Euro took out last Friday's top slightly before
coming down.
(2)Both GBP and Swiss remain under their tops of last
Friday and are coming down with more momentum than
Euro.

The question remains: how low will Euro, GBP and Swiss
go down from this level? This question is beyond the
scope of time analysis.

Daniel Tenengauzer, senior G10 currency strategist at Lehman Brothers in New York, said the dollar was primed for a correction because sentiment had been negative for some time.

"The whole thing is getting stretched, and if you are one to go against the trend, positioning and sentiment is telling you that this would be a good time to do it," he said.

According to data compiled by the Commodity Futures Exchange, speculators have been short the dollar against a number of currencies for weeks, suggesting the market may be poised for a turnaround. The latest data will be released later on Monday

Man Tries to Set Self Ablaze at White House
Monday, November 15, 2004
WASHINGTON, D.C. — An unidentified man tried to set himself on fire outside the White House fence midday Monday, witnesses said. Onlookers said the incident took place outside the Northwest gate. Uniformed Secret Service (search) agents were seen rushing to surround the man, who had graying hair and glasses. He was heard screaming in pain.
Television cameras captured the aftermath. Smoke hung in the air around the man as paramedics rushed to provide aid. The man appeared to be clutching his hand in pain, but it was unclear how serious his burns were.

London. 19:34 - good stuff. Where I once (accurately) condemned the idea of rate hikes 3 years ago when some were claiming the US economy would collapse without them, now I feel a graduated hike phase would fit. But not at the 1% suggested due to the necessity of further buffer against unforseen catastrophe, and to buffer the housing market among other things as too steady a process could harm the housing structure.

(AP) The Shadow Open Market Committee A group of economists Monday call on the Federal Reserve to keep raising the federal funds rate and to start targeting a desirable inflation rates ,saying that while the monetary aggregates are growing at a pace consistent with low inflation, we are concerned that the current level of the funds rate could lead to more rapid growth of money and inflation," the committee's seven private sector and academic economists said in a policy statement following their semi-annual meeting at the Cato Institute. The Fed should "announce a specific target for inflation," with 1% annual growth in the consumer price index as the goal, the committee's statement said. Such a target doesn't mean the Fed would only be concerned with inflation, the group said, noting that the Bank of England, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and other central banks that have targeted inflation have also considered output and employment in their decisions.

T.J. Marta, senior currency strategist at RBC Capital Markets in New York, reckons a "significant, short-term rally" for the dollar is due. Market positioning and the adverse impact of a strong euro on the euro zone's economy should cap then reverse the common currency's ascent.

"I think the rhetoric from ECB officials is going to get even more extreme," Marta said.

European Central Bank board member Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa said on Monday he doesn't believe the market has a one-way bet on the euro, and echoed ECB president Jean-Claude Trichet's comments that the currency's recent spike up was "brutal" and unwelcome.

European Union monetary affairs commissioner Joaquin Almunia said "it's not good for anybody" to have the currency swings of recent weeks, which saw the euro hit a life-time high of $1.3005 last Wednesday.

My posts regarding EurChf have pinpointed the relative area of stagnation, thus likely saving people money or making them money depending.

Some of my posts include nothing but hard economic fact, which, unfortunately some who don't want the US to have positive economic fact dispise.

Other posts contain projections based on logical views of geo-political events.

I have a hard time not laughing at the idea my posts have "no value". Unless of course you have a hard time swallowing input that conflicts with personal political views.

The platform is very basic which is what I like. There is no problems in fast movements after payrolls for example. No problems with the ticker stopping and not letting you get in or out. No system down time at all when you need it most.

It is also very easy to get in and out of a trade fast for scalping etc. Just try all the functions of the demo. There is a small fee that you pay per trade that really just turns a 3 pip cable spread to a 4 pip one. gbp/jpy 8 pip trade to 9. Call the sales desk and they will answer any questions much better than I can.

Ive been with 5 "major" brokers and I wont be going back mate.

We must not forget the fall of the US dollar and that it is natural for an orderly retracement to occur. 1.2900-1.2927 is a swing zone so to speak. Below 1.2927 sees a good chance for a decline below 1.29.

Cable is the same from 1.8457 and down to 1.8421 to sub 1.83. This will setup another upleg for Friday.

No matter what Im still in longs cable 1.8070 and euro 1.2662 and have only raised stops 100 pips from b/e for targets 1.3350 and 1.88. A decent retracement should be 150-200 pips from highs.

A much needed breather seems to be brewing for the dollar. Cable has been selling off, and I expect euro and yen to continue. Every time euro has touched 1.3000 over the past few sessions, it has been met with some very serious selling. I would imagine that a few traders are going to get itchy fingers, and pull the trigger to get out of some good profitable positions. However, I see this as only a small-term badly needed correction in the dollar. I imagine, there are buy orders stacked all the way down to 1.2500. A relief rally in the dollar, I believe would be short lived.

Ok spot gold is stalling at 436, Cad in the relative highs, $Yen bid but not pumping, $index entering 84. Euro politicians need to ride the tide of blaming the weak Usd for their weak economies, so they won't intervene to a point of any consequence, if at all. At some point the market remembers the weaking tone of the $ gods and they forget the economic data. Simple trade is to let the bids resolve and short more.

LONDON 09:31-- Good evening..The Gold and Aud are the favourite carry-trades against Dollar by some asian traders for some months..So, it is worthwhile watching the Gold for the clue of Aud's next move..It is unlikely to fall as long as Gold is rising and vice versa as the massive multi-billion carry-trades are set up at present..Expecting both Gold and Aud to go much higher in coming weeks with Aud seeing the new high for the year at some stage too..Good trades.

GEP - Looks like a interesting morning shaping up; The two I'm watching are EURUSD and USDCAD. On the first there's a rising support from early october that is right now ina arount 1.29 and a continuation of the trending on the 11th & 12th parallel to the support that comes in right about the where we are at now. Needless to say there's a lot of resistance in the 1.2 level, but all in all I'd say it's ST bullish, with stops below the support line. CAD again looks like it's ready to head down again; we'll see what happens after NY open. But it hasn't taken a dive now in about 10 days, a long time for this one....

Best place for you would be to live in Sotogrande, Spain (Better standard of living IMHO) and work in Gibraltar ,UK (Lower taxes on income earned). I know traders who do that. But you have to be registered as resident of Gibraltar to obtain the lower tax status.

Thanks very much and totally agree. As an example when the ozzie went below 55c (it went to 48c) it almost decimated the exporters. Many had "hedges" from much higher (but that didn't stop commodities imploding) but also many had enourmous debt in USD. Like you say it's more complicated than a pure currency affects on exports especially as these days the cross country mergers have softened the effects for many.
Similarly, that's also why we need to remember that everytime a European politician has a whinge about the strength of the euro it is largely nothing more than another abdication of responsibilty for their stewardship of a weak economy coupled with convenient scapegoating. These same clowns complained/blamed a strong dollar for discouraging inward investment just a few years ago for Domestic political pointscoring purposes.

"We have to remind some Asian countries that they have to create more flexible exchange rates," the Spanish commissioner said.

Dublin Flip 08:45// I have been involved in agropolitics for over 20 years. That a cheaper dollar benefits farmers is a common fallacy that only applies to a very small number of corporate largely multinational conglomerates. For the vast majority their terms of trade suffer greatly with high costs of fuel, chemicals and almost all inputs of production. In mining I may agree except for the large shift towards equity partnerships in very recent times. This insulates costs of higher dollar to a quite small part of the total cost structure which is outweighed by savings in others.

Dollar surge 'costing $3.5bn'
SMH
------------
I'm sure farmers and miners would prefer ozz back down all time lows but the currency hasn't rallied on a whim but in step with rising Export prices and volumes. For example AUD is up 50% in three years but funnily enough commodities (e.g. CRB is up 50%) over the same period. Also exports volumes not just the prices have exploded. These are some of the reasons the ASX has been doing better than most lately. The Aussie has rallied on fundamentals not just some trendy US double deficit reactionary benefits. South America (not exactly a pillar of economic virtues) are similarly having positive developments courtesy of Asia. Not everything is as simplistically explained as the current US-centric excuse e.g. the trade deficit.

LOCAL farmers have lost almost $3.5 billion in the past 18 months – and it has nothing to do with the rain.
The strengthening dollar, and the falling United States dollar, have combined to eat into the profit margins of the nation's export earners Together, farmers and miners account for more than two thirds of Australia's exports.

The market is a bit cautious about chasing the EUR/USD higher ahead of the Ecofin meeting later today. Analysts also feel that the EUR might under perform due to the political pressure from both sides of the Atlantic on Asia to share the burden of further USD weakness. This could see the EUR/JPY slip lower in the days ahead.

The "Super Magnet" or "Key Quantized Level" in my system is in fact the common factor of my Quantized Levels from all the projection curves. It is the converging or meeting point of all different forces in the market and therefore it is reasonable to believe that the position of the key quantized level is a very useful reference in predicting the direction or intention of the market movement.

The evidence is there that right now, the market is just being cautious ahead of data to make sure that any huge positive surprises don't surface. For example, jobs data came out a couple of weeks ago that showed a number twice as healthy as what was expected. The dollar popped up against its counterparts accross the board... Only to be sold off heavily the rest of the session. I'm taking the attitude that until any of these imbalances that the market is focusing on right this very moment are addressed, the current trend for a large dollar sell-off will surface a lot sooner than later. Data that may be positive for the dollar are only going to provide a breif respite, and an opportunity to sell on rallies. That is what has been happening over and over.

It's a lot easier to swim downstream than upstream!

Uncertainty growing over China economy's current health, likely direction for next year, say analysts. "The divergence in opinion is bigger than you see for other economies," says Citigroup's Great China economist Huang Yiping. His prognosis: China's growth cycle peaking now, economy will gradually slow over coming year. But to get clearer picture, Huang, others suggest looking at factors other than overall growth of economy; industrial output, fixed-asset investments more reliable indicators of direction

China's central bank is still monitoring the effects of the country's first interest rate hike in more than nine years although expectations are that inflation will continue to ease this year, People's Bank of China Governor Zhou Xiaochuan says.

In an interview with Caijing magazine, the first since the PBOC surprised markets on Oct. 29 by hiking rates by 27 basis points, Zhou explained the bank's rationale for the timing of the decision and the size of the increase. In the interview, which will hit newsstands Monday, Zhou said the decision to increase rates only slightly was partly to gauge the effect.

But he remained tight-lipped on whether that meant that more rate hikes were in store.

This is an abstract form a post on my website a little earlier. It looks as if things are going to get interesting this week:

The dollar is set to move even lower versus all of its counterparts. It appears that NOTHING will stop the dollar's sell-off. It is becoming apparent that an apocalyptic move is in the making for the dollar. The U.S. posted some very healthy numbers throughout the week, yet the dollar was unable to stop the sell-off. International trade showed an improvement of $2 billion; University of Michigan Sentiment came in at 95.5 after a reading of 91; Retail sales came in at 1.5% vs. .3%, yet still, the dollar was sold of heavily. Even Japanese GDP came in worse than expected, and the dollar lost ground against this counterpart. It appears that no amount of data will help the U.S. currency at this point.
