If I may answer as well GD, I don't think the argument my traders have, I know I certainly do, is looking at anything like the timeframe you are. The most frequent posters have anything from a timeframe of a few minutes to several days.

Not be critical of you or anyone else just saying that we all have different time horizons we look at.

A good 2005 to you!

quito_ecuador_valdez ... again my question: why a correction?
What changed?
Maybe we'll see some short- or mediumterm technical retracements toward 1.30 ... but NO LONGTERM TREND REVERSAL, because i don't see a fundamental reason for such a reversal! Do YOU????
The us (and the whole world) will CONTINUE to buy asian products and Dubya won't start saving, yuan revaluation or not ... so pls: why should we see a reversal? Fundamentals pls!
Because eur is overvalued? In this case any currency against usd is overvalued - or the buck is way undervalued!
And what about the sentiment towards the us(d)?!
Lot of friends out there!

I'll hold (and repeat) my bet, posted about a month ago: 1.27 is a floor for eur, for the forseeable future (next decade?!) ... and i don't expect it to be seen within the next 1-2 year. Maybe a year before the next us pres election we'll see it for a short while ... MAYBE!

AS to those such as Boca Raton and a few others who like to plague the forum with wize cracks and discontent, I truly hope the new year will see a more policed forum..self policed. Trading is serious stuff and the intentions of the hosts was to create a free forum for serious traders to trade ideas, perspectives and most importantly their trades themselves. Wading through all the cow maneure here is getting some days to be a pain to find the good stuff.

Happy New year to all, even the pests.

Dallas Gep///Ref the last several post to you. I have followed your calls for some time & find them to be GOOD calls. As a rule I don't trade other peoples adv unless they have established there ability & then I will only do so if the adv makes sense to me. In your defense (not that I thinks you need it), if you give out your trades, & someone trades them, thats their decision. Everyone is resposible for their on trading decisions. If the trade make no sense or you can't justify it in some way, DON'T TRADE. Its that simple. My POINT, People need to make their on decisions. I followed your adv along with 4 others on this forum, but I make my on decisions in the end. THANKS to YOU for your POST. KEEP POSTING & PAY NO ATTENTION TO THOSE YOU DISLIKE YOUR POST. TO THE NEW TRADERS, "'MAKE YOU ON DECISIONS". JUST MY THOUGHT NOT MEANING TO OFFEND ANYONE. GEP, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU.

2004 FX recap
Good morning,

***EUR***
EUR/USD (currently 1,3625), 10 points higher than on early January (8% appreciation). This year' EUR/USD price action can be divided in three stages:
A retracement from 1,2920 to 1,1780 in Q1
B consolidation inside 1,19-1,2450 during Q2/Q3.
C sharp rally from 1,2450 to 1,3670 during Q4.
What are the expectations for 2005? The long term picture has not changed, as long as we stay above 1,3030 the bull trend is intact. Next EUR/USD upside target is somewhere round 1,46 (1993 Q4 high) while we don't really expect any moves below 1,2900. The US administration is happy with a weak USD that should help reduce the twin deficits, and that's what the market is focusing on for the time being. An equilibrium point should be found around 1,38, so basically we expect a final push up then some range trading.

Gold at 438,00 , price action very similar to EUR/USD. next target round 500.
WTI Feb at 43,33. Oli markets were the most volatile instruments this year. We expect some stabilization/ return to 25-35$/barrel trading range, closer to OPEC official range.

***JPY***
USD/JPY (102,70), down 5 points from 107,50 January open (4,8% decrease) but within a 102-114,50 (12% variation) opening. Our long term view that something is cooking and that USD/JPY still has important downsides potential. Once the 102 support gives way, expect next downleg to take us directly to 100 and below, our medium term target around 95. One of the trigger will be the resurgence of chinese Yuan revaluation talks/rumors.

***GBP***
Cable (currently 1,9260), up 15,5 points since January (8,75% revaluation). 2,00 looks to be the next major target, but we still like the downsides better and EUR/GBP cross will have a major part to play, as it is lurking towards the upsides and a possible break of 0,7300 could counter the move and send GBP/USD below 1,85.

Have a nice day, and our best wishes for 2005!

Olivier

Sitting here having an argument with a very good friend of mine how we managed to MISS this current reversal on Euro, gbp and eur/jpy (small 20-30 pip reversal). Technically he tells me he saw nothing to make you beleive that we would have gotten this dip but I argued it could have been played short based upon first attack of these resistance levels. So we BOTH did NOTHING!!! LOL!!!!!!!

Hello Gep! While things are quiet- want to wish you and yours a Happy New Year. In your unassuming way you have given me much. I mean I don't have to get thru an ego to understand you. So many offhand comments of yours I have thought over in the late nite, researching them, trying to make them "my own". You stabilized my trading by giving me reference points. Took that euro/gbp you silently sandwitched in between the "nasty pillow fights" last nite. Learned alot there. So just want you to know people learn when you talk into "the void". I'm sure I speak for others who just look on. Also, there are many others who give and I laugh thinkin the all the grief that comes with sharing yourself. Again, the best to you.

Dallas GEP 07:02 GMT December 31, 2004 Reply
Well as I speak we are getting some offers on USD/JPY. If I were LONG usd/jpy at this time and wanted to keep possie in, I think your stop around 102.27. IF Euro goes really long howvever, that might not hold.

Dallas GEP 06:55 GMT December 31, 2004 Reply
Posted earlier about the fact that 102.50 MAY be a level that is being bid up from by our MOF boys. Based on pricing action so far there may be something to that.

The Euro may be restricted to 1.3675 today and to 1.3700 on Monday. Its kissing the upper end of a broad Up-channel (visible on the Daily chart) which arguably came into being around 11-Nov. If the channel Resistance holds, there would be chances of a correction down towards 1.34 in early Jan. If the channel Resistance breaks (possibly Tuesday), the Euro might fly up towards 1.38-39, because we also have an ascending Triangle on the Daily right now, with apex near 1.37.

My last comments for the year as I reflect on the years events. I believe those of us fortunate to be with good health this year should give thanks to whomever you give thanks to. It is I believe our duty to our good fortune that we should help those that are not as fortunate as us. It has been a pleasure to share the field of battle with you and I hope (something I would not dare to do in the FX business) that in the next year we can come out victorious once again. I will raise my glass to those that contribute to our FX family here and give thanks for their donation of effort and wisdom they share with us. Happy Holidays and see you on the other side. GL GT

Rob Henderson, economist at the National Australia Bank, said the currency market is also on watch for potential intervention to support the U.S. dollar against the yen by the Bank of Japan. The risk of intervention could grow if the U.S. dollar slides toward 100.00 yen, he said. In Asia Friday, the pair stood at 102.60 yen. Data from the Reserve Bank of Australia on credit growth formed the only domestic focus on Friday. Total credit growth slowed in November rising by 0.8%, compared with growth of 1.1% in October.
Housing credit growth recorded its slowest pace since November 2001, rising by 1.0% to be 15.6% above its level a year earlier. Closely watched by the central bank itself, economists said housing credit growth has clearly cooled, with some concern growing that the sharp slowdown in 2004 will deepen in 2005. "The housing sector has rapidly gone from boom to neutral," said Stephen Koukoulas, chief strategist at TD Securities. "The big question is whether the slow down consolidates at the levels, or whether the fall continues under the weight of falling house prices, a record debt servicing burden," he added. "The RBA is likely to be content with the housing market slow down, but is on alert for a more severe downturn in activity if consumers stop spending," Koukoulas warned. Australia's official interest rates were kept at 5.25% throughout 2004 and there are few signs of change in early 2005. For the bond market, the shift in sentiment surrounding the interest rate outlook is critical. The market closes out 2004 below its highs, but with pricing suggesting a cut in interest rates is more likely than a hike. dowj.

As I wondered at the close of NY, $jpy didn't seem ready to really pull up yet. There are magnetic prices at 102.80 and 102.50 which had not been tested. Overshoot would be 102 but that I'm not expecting. Probabilities increase for better risk/reward for longs at/near either magnetic price depending on conditions.

Australian stocks declined, led by steelmakers such as Bluescope Steel Ltd. and OneSteel Ltd. amid concern that steel exports from China may create a supply glut.
China, the world's largest producer and consumer of steel, was a net steel exporter in November for a third straight month, fueling concerns about oversupply. OneSteel Ltd., Australia's second-biggest steelmaker, dropped 3 cents, or 1.2 percent, to A$2.55.
