I can tell you many stories about timing but this has to be one of the saddest...back in 2000 I heard about a chap that called the technology bubble bursting to within a couple of weeks...unfortunately it was those two weeks that cost him dear...the culprit was Cisco common stock...the chap in question began shorting the stock in a big way on margin from the start of 2000, his view being that it would drop to single figures with a year...unfortunately for him he didn't anticipate the final leg up from 70 to 80 and was wiped out...in the end he did call the high to within a few percent and his prediction ultimately did come true in 2002 but this did him no good whatsoever and probably he would have felt better had the stock gone on to a $100

From now on I will limit my post to retracement, support and resistance since I see that some people get upset when there are comments about how many pips the position will make or made. Numbers for retracement for eur/usd as long as 1.2400 holds are 1.2340-35, 1.23105-10 and 1.2295-90. Support is found now at 1.2330-20 and 1.2300-2290 IMHO. GL GT

This is a moderate play, the Dollar begin to fight back (end open until now) first results in USD/CAD than EUR/USD the other USD/CHF, GBP/USD... will follow the trend after some resilience. So for not too many pips a long EUR/CHF or EUR/GBP (near 0.6670) could be profitable without too much risk. GT & GL.

I would be v careful with eurchf at these levels...imo it's barely begun to show its teeth...the pair is capable of complete destruction on the downside since its a stable (most of the year) carry play (you are help actively by Swiss authorities) so any sign of it going lower will result in mass liquidation and problem currently is compounded by saven haven flows which will only exacerbate the situation...it looks as if we are going to close below trendline of a mature channel, which is bearish, although the market is making efforts to get back above the 200 day sma (5542)...gl gt

I can't speak for the whole market but I know of at least one stock fund that liquidated Amersham UK stock in January as the expectation was that a large dollar decline would offset the extra 2% be gained on completion was not a risk worth taking given the possible combination of GE share price decline and dollar fall (exchange ratio was not fixed but limited to £14.36 GE sterling value per share)...there will be some cable +ve at the margin, following completion, since some domestic (UK) funds will not be able to hold foreign stock but this would be nothing in the sort of range of market cap of the comp (£6bn)...gl gt

pair has successfully bounced off the 50 day sma today and that has created kneejerk buying pressure...I don't see much more upside today (maximum may come if/once cable gets to 1.85) and even if I'm wrong it should be limited to 2.4640 today. If it were able to break above this level later this week, you'd need to look at 2.4835/70...as things stand from a daily perspective it's mildly bullish (has a natural tendancy to rise given Canadian rate situation) but as far as I'm concerned it's in no man's land as it needs another three figures before getting o/b as the bounce from o/s lows has been orderly...gl gt

still early days but at present s&p will gap down to post fresh recent lows at pyschologically important 1100 level...recently these gaps have all been filled so circa 1110 would be expected at some stage during the session...if not seen (you might call it a breakout gap then) this suggests market getting less orderly and a washout may be around the corner, targeting 1060/70...caveat here is that any gap filling to 1110 today would by then have some momentum behind it and create the potential for a full reversal (of Friday) and return to 1121...so either way stocks may show their hand...a revealing day in order for stocks imo...gl gt

Why do you think USD is danger to stay with?
Actually IMHO it's the oposite. Depo rates is one of the lowest I can remember and when they will rise USD should react and rise as well. Generally economic situation is at the moment better in USA comparing with EU. They (EU) for e.g. glad to decrace rates but they cann't because of inflation.

If you want a risky game, like Russian Rulete, short eur and gbp now. If you want a safer game, wait. We know - or think that we know- that eur/usd has some barriers above 1.2300. So, it's possible that it will go back to its 200 EMA and if it does not do so and you opt to go long, take care ot R.

As long as 1.8225 holds, cable could go to 1.8450/1.8500/1.8550. That means eur could go to 1.2400.

But, Bandung, I think the mood is not that.

Couldn't agree more - global tensions and economic instability has led the the CRB rally which shows no sign of abating - just look at how oil; gold & not to mention silver which is about the break 1988 highs (coupled with manipulation stories, where a short squeeze could send it through the roof - a good article on this can be found on: http://www.insightmag.com/main.cfm/include/detail/storyid/632699.html) - I believe the commodity currencies will def benefit and should continue to rise from here - my preferred choice would be AUD - interesting to see how we bounced off the 1-month downward channel support O/N c.0.7430 now) - next key lvl is 0.7510 (100-day m.a.) which hopefully will brk & close over next 24-hrs - coupled with more than a 4% yield pickup agst. US$ expect funds to reposition themselves should the US$ fail to show and signs of a pickup this week - OBL rumours have proven to be shortlived & will not stop the potential dangers which still lurk. Key will be CRB and US$ index - many opportunities around, but in order to avoid the day to day swings, may be safer to go the option way such as 25 delta calls in the 1 or 2 month period (tlking AUD here)....g/l

eur/usd and gbp/usd are trading above 200 EMA. USD/CHF is trading bellow 200 EMA.

On the way to 1.1686 there are 3 major barrier, namely 1.2222, 1.2088 and 1.1954, for the market to tackle. Other cycle analyses will be used to closely monitor the situation.

BC thanks for that information if I read it correctly we are going to be in a range for a while with the % to a higher move from here. That spells trouble for mid term positions like mine. Closed my intraday position at 1.2260 with the prices continually bouncing off the support line of the daily pennant. Right now we are riding the 1.2060-1.2460 range with neither the bears nor the bulls getting a hold of the market IMHO. GL GT

Rather misleading headline in that it refers to the Kiwi not US Dollar.

QINDEX -- When tens of billions Euro copntact is secretly negotiated somewhere ,the job of some forex soldiers is to make sure Euro is trading within certain range till the negotiation ends..Same for Aussie and Yen market..The real big money is in obtaining contracts at fair value while forex boys toil and soil to that end..After all, forex battalions are just soldiers sent out to hold the lines while the bosses move the legions in a much bigger picture..

jf , St. Louis SAJ is correct newswires it seems are trying to sway market views with a simply headline which is obvious , when it would be better to get confirmation either he is or isnt , and not maybe . Early this morning on Sky they reported the FT saying this 'AL' chap had been killed and were waiting confirmation of DNA however later changed the article to the opposite.

sar jf -- Oh, I wasn't criming Brisbane at all. Nor even this particular ''news'' source. My comment was intended to be far more general in scope; the ''media'' have pretty uniformly retreated from the policy of restricting themselves to reporting fact. Now, therefore, we have this ugly admixture of supposition, commentary, and pure opinion masquerading as ''news''. Never mind incompetence, this is downright dishonesty. Of what use to anyone is the following ersatz ''headline'':

Fed Chief Might Raise Rates

? Of course he might. Duuuuh. And he might not, too. Useless, absolutely useless.

In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room.
