Hello everyone.. ;)

ML it has been hard making heads or tails this week for me especially! I have to say tho it is not looking good for the dollar in my opinion until it breaks a couple of key resistances.

G7 likely to be a non-event really and with no US data out Monday it may break a few key supports that could get real money in and spell trouble in the medium term. All speculation until proven otherwise of course!

ICT ML I agree with you , was looking to buy aud/usd but may be better to wait till Monday now , Euro also not making the headway I expected. Good Luck see you Monday.

Well Yday I posted some things about my 4 hr swing trends in eur-usd being broken (still so for now) and it looking like gbp-usd, aud-usd, eur-gbp, gbp-jpy were going to break thier swing supports. Well they all bounced off them rather than break with the exception of eur-gbp, which broke its support.

I may turn into a buyer on a good break of 1.2150 and 1.8025 next week, but I am not so sure it will happen just yet. We'll see early in the week.

Caused a bit of head scratching here....because now we have gbp looking a bit stronger than before, but aussie and cable just gave a good sell signal, $Y and $CAD gave initial good buy signals finally and the euro pairs look weak like ususal. All on 4 hr charts. Daily and weekly I'll look at this weekend after todays close.

I only took 2 trades this week, I bought swiss on monday against $ and gbp...and only made a small gain after they pooped out at 1.2700 and 2.2500. The ranging stuff is getting old!

SZ it was a good week even though we were in a tough range all week. Unfortunately for the R/R point I was trying to make it did not work very well. The beauty of a good R/R is appreciated more when you loose a lot more positions than I did this week but I hope the message I was trying to say was clear enough.

Miami OMIL (/;-> 17:24 GMT May 21, 2004 Reply
Hello guys looks like I can start the weekend early now. I am back from a nap now; it looks like I got out of that long intraday position just in time. I don’t usually post my positions because that has irritated others in the past. This week after all the discussions about R/R in the past I felt compelled to prove the R/R point. The positions I have taken for this week are for eur/usd and are clearly stated in the archives if you feel the need to check my integrity. I have to be careful on how I write this message because by any means this is not a contest or am I boasting how much I made this week. This is not the average result on a consistent level for every working week if not I would be on a yacht with Islander of the coast of the Bahamas right now. The big move on Monday does not happen as often as I would like for this pair but this was the result for this week. The R/R concepts that I am talking about I have explained before in one of my comments earlier on May 17, 2004. The system that I used for this week is not the best in the world there are many that are better but the point is that the system does not have to be great and can work with good application of R/R and discipline. I will add a 4 pip spread to the losing positions and show the results for a layered position once after a 40-pip move from the entry point has begun. Here are the positions for this week 5-17 exit long (+160) layered position (+280) pips, 5-19 exit short position (–44) pips did not reach second layer, 5-19 exit long position (–44) layered (-48) pips, 5-20 exit short position (+50) layered (+63) total pips, 5-21 exit long position (+80) layered (+120) total pips. A total of (+202) pips and layered (+331) pips are in the bag and you have 7.5 positions to get another big move before you loose what you have gained. It averages in the long run to a winning % and most important it gives you another day to fight the good fight. I hope I have not confused anyone with all these number and my point gets across clearly. Now Bottom line is you have to do your homework work on your own system to the point that you are comfortable enough with it to close your eyes and let it show you the way. Use a good R/R with your system because that is your safety net incase you fall. Use the forum to compare and learn from others. If you follow others blindly here then you will not learn anything and only succeed for a short time at best. All of these things take dedication and a willingness to go all the way because this is not a 100-yard dash this is a marathon you are in IMHO. Obviously this post is for the new traders that look at the forum for guidance and you old pros can forgive my long message and indulge me just once. I hope every one has a good and safe weekend and I will see you on the other side. GL GT

Metals really screaming. As the dollar worked its way towards 1.20+ all of the metals were screaming since yesterday. The metals started earlier than I expected. I was looking for 1.22 euro for a reentry. Two bellwether silver mining stocks that really lead most of the others in % gains are CDU and CZN (toronto). I own neither(disclosure). They are both up about 25% in two days. So to me the market is saying the dollar is starting back down??

It sort of looked like the metals community was looking for the green light (which I thought was 1.22). Nickel is up 5% today and copper up.

Many say the china slow down just is not happening to the extent people feared.

I have been doing some buying, but I am not comfortable.

At what level do you guys feel a new down turn in the UD dollar will be confirmed as a new trend? 1.210? 1.22/3? or more?

June gold zoomed $7.50 higher to $387.00 in late morning trade, with values lifted by a weaker dollar in reaction to a comment from Federal Reserve governor Ben Bernanke who sees low inflation and no need to raise rates aggressively

Gold may find support around $380 and then we may see swing higher - Closed long position around 16.00 GMT and went short a little later - The DJIA will do down - Longer term I am looking to buy Gold - Silver will rise but I don't trade this. - The $ index is looking to go south soon.

Making a sight for amature traders..and paying them for it...for each vote...say a Buck...get a sample of about 300 votes on euro direction from them...if the % is more then 68.2% then do the opposite...your succuess rate will be 1-68.2%*(Thier success average)...since it's below 50% (not so good Traders)...then you have a good trade...
Good idea anyone thinks?

Dollar loses yen support (by Investica)
The yen will secure some interest from a rebound in the Nikkei and a tentative resumption of optimism over the Japanese economy. Intra-day volatility will remain high in the short term and the US currency will need to rally back through the 112.5 level to secure a more comfortable position. In the near-term the greater risk is for a dollar decline towards 111.5 and possibly 111.2....For the full update, see our New Research section, where a link can be found on in the center of our Hompage, on the Analysis & News Links on our right sidebar or by Clicking Here

The move in cable was awesome and it's surely targetting 1.8000+ now. Too bad I was late to ride it on. Placed a sell order for GBP at 1.7950 and closed it at 1.7909. I'm placing a buy order now at 1.7890 and a sell order at 1.7960/70 with tight stops. Better be safe than sorry. This thing is a beast :-)

M&A-wise, a Morgan Stanley-led consortium is today expected to claim victory

Thanks FG the beauty of having a good R/R with your system is that you don’t have to be perfect to stay out of the red zone. It is sweeter when you get them in a roll like this but it is comforting to have the cushion to make mistakes in the future. I do not think this bullish move is over so I will try to milk it for all it is worth. GL GT

FWIW I will move stops once more when we break the resistance (1.2060-70) for my intraday long position on the eur/usd pair. With Intraday indicators in O/B territory but mid term indicators bullish at the moment I think that we might see a pullback if the resistance stands for now. Might see a pull back to the 1.1990-2000, 1.1975-80 and 1.1955-60 area before another attempt at the resistance IMHO. GL GT

1.7930 on GBP/USD is acting as resistance for time being. Needs to be taken and held in order to see further upside. We may need NY liquidity to continue this run. USD sales does not appear to be over. At least not yet. Breakouts have not been working for me lately so I'm thinking range trade strats setting up soon. Have taken profit on my 1.7860 long and am now flat waiting for next opp. Operators are have been and continue to be hard at work. quick hits recommended, I think real money players have positioned themselves already. Despite concerns about overheating in the world's fastest growing economy, Australian companies expect China will become their major export destination in the not too distant future. Australia's exports to China grew 8.4% to A$9.1 billion in 2003, as China's rapid industrialization transforms it into one of the world's largest consumers of raw materials.Basically everything that China wants, Australia has, particularly in the resources sector," said Tim Harcourt, chief economist at the Australian government's trade promotion agency Austrade. "Most economists say that a low growth scenario in China is going to mean 7% to 8% growth a year, instead of 9% to 10%, so the slow story is actually pretty good because that's rocket style growth for anyone else," said Austrade's Harcourt. reuters

That is a good sign of a trend of a potential trend, offcourse it's confirmed when they start being short euro$..then the trend picks-up speed.

FWIW...Re: Gold, Washington Agreement
The New Central Bank Gold Agreement
On Monday, 8th March 2004, the European Central Bank and 14 other central banks announced the renewal of the Central Bank Gold Agreement (CBGA). The new agreement’s terms are similar to the one due to expire in September. For instance, the new agreement even maintains the cap on lending and derivatives activity at levels lower or equal to the ones “prevailing at the date of the signature of the previous
agreement”. Indeed, the only substantive change to the existing CBGA is that the maximum level of sales has been increased from 400 to up to 500 tonnes per year,
with an overall total of no more than 2,500 tonnes permitted during the five-year life of the new agreement. Although a little towards the upper end of expectations, the
increase in the sales quota is no great surprise given the far stronger market today than was the case in the third quarter of 1999. Since September 1999 gold has risen by a
massive 50% in US dollar terms and, perhaps more significantly, is no less than 25% higher in euros. It is probable that policymakers would have drawn the conclusion –
correctly in our view – that the market could absorb an additional quantity of central bank gold. The relative lack of price response to news of the CBGA’s renewal and its
terms would also seem to confirm this supposition...

Euro is kissing good bye (yes, good buy) to May, the underlying market dynamics is presenting a good window of opportunty for big bad bulls to send it on its merry way above 1.21/22 ..

Nikkei-225 (CME) : Critical Resistance at 11057

The key quantised level of my monthly cycle chart is located at 11057 and the market will maintain a positive tone if it can close above it. It is likely that the market has hit the monthly cycle low around the quantized level at 10423 (low=10420). A supporting barrier is positioning at 10687 - 10740. The odds are in favour of maintaing a long position.

Nikkei-225 Monthly Cycle Quantized Levels

Set A : ... // 10423* - 10582 - 10740* - 10898 - 11057* - 11216 - 11374* - 11691* // 11850 ...

Set B : ... 10132 // 10502* - 10687 - 10872* - 11057 - 11242* - 11427 - 11612* - 11798 // ...

Normandy Nick 00:28 GMT May 21, 2004 Reply
Even if usd/chf looks bearish, I still worry as long as 1.2830 doesn't print. I'll close my long gbp/usd at 1.7785/90 (if seen of course!)except if it burst it badly

Normandy Nick 00:24 GMT May 21, 2004 Reply
Also Newbie,
For example, the macd was rather in "spring mode" on usd/jpy, but I short it, because a " late frost" happened, and that suggest at least, retest of recent high, a sign of weakness anyway..

Newbie,
The macd tells you who controls the market. Buyers? Sellers? no one? and you can compare the different phases to the seasons, the botton being the winter and the top the summer. And like the weather, you can see a late frost at spring and a hot period at automn, but in general it's quiet reliable.

Good morning !!!
I hope still remember gbp/sud about 1.7781 (done exactly)
I have posted before.

Dallas GEP 00:02 GMT May 21, 2004 Reply
I concurr with NICK on that one as well. MACD is the most important. You can trade against it but only for very short term period of time.
