Fundamentally, the dollar is getting weak. For the asian session I would sell usd/yen at 113.05. If 113.45, I would forget about my short trade on dollar to re-evaluate the situation.

Well, for the asian session it would be the yen but i don't trade today. I focuse on pound. The upmove , one hour ago , shows the wish to go further up. Up reactions appeared half-way from the 50 ema. My interpretation is a conviction to go further high. If we could open the next hour, ( the next day so) above 1.7920, that would be great.

Euro on its 50 ema, usd/jpy may have reached a top, gbp/usd ---> long positions are building.
invalidation: usd/yen 113.45
usd/chf ---> 1.2820
pound ---> 1.7885

CAIRO AG 23:17 GMT May 24, 2004 I am short term buyer of this pair. USD still has a few tricks up its sleeve. However, I'm looking to pull the rug @ the 113.90 Next Fractal Top (8HR). Watch 113.70 as it is the 61.8% Fibo retrace of 114.92--111.72 selloff. I would expect to see larger offers there. Personally, my tgt is set for 114.00 as I think the round fig will attract before we see USD weakness. USD index holding above 90.43/36/00 is favorable, recent movement above 90.65 TL resistance confirms; next stop 90.78, the 50% Fibo retrace of 89.28--92.28 rally. GL & GT

Interesting the way Lowry, Packer, Murdock and NAB time their acquisitions to coincide with Govt and other Qango's big ticket items. As well as current options protecting these deals we have another 680 mi for tanks. In the past weeks we have had eurocopters and Qantas jets just to name two.

USD/JPY couple times tried to pass unsuccesfully 113.20/25 level, and I closed it with some profit, but want to open again - short or long - I am not sure now.
If short - from 113.15/20 to may be - 112.80/85 no more
But now may be think about long one - depend on the situation with crosses too. USD/CHF is looking comfortable too on 128 level. Will see

On the downside 112.30-45 should cap, but if broken than 111.40 should be next acting as a STRONG SUPPORT.

Breach of 111.40 means IMO, a change in the $Y direction!!!

I trade when I see what I consider to be a trade with good r/r. I used to trade daily, but found I am much better off to wait until the pairs that I trade reach what I consider to be o/b or o/s when the market is pretty much range bound as it is now. Seems that the less trades that I make the more my equity increases.

SF Ida 19:18,
USD/JPY show mixed signals. Soft, but hold again today 112/112.10 so maybe a momentary bottom in place. A break over 113 could bring an other 40 - 70 pips (if 113 is not clear broken target again ~112).
The danger of breaking over 113 is one of motives why I closed 1/2 position in EUR/JPY short.

Well, first I only trade euro, chf , pound and yen(sometimes) against dollar. Then your range are very wide. Your buy signal on euro could correspond to mine but I wonder how you got the sell one at 1.2082( 20 pips above the recent high). So, I would say I'm at least, half agree with that, also my number change with the strengh of the trend in the time: hesitation, conviction helps to print certain number or not to print them. Truer words were never spoken, agreed 100%. I was just chart chatting below, more to the big picture than this week's happenings. Obviously there are BAJILLIONS of things which enter into trading, be it stocks, fx, commods or whatever. Nice post. Good day for tactics and ideas everyone! I find that forum posters are right about as often as they are wrong, but it's fun. Like the 1.16-1.15 eur/usd soothsayers as of late. And I agree 100% in your inference about following the trend without trying necessarily to figure it out. There's a lot out there going on behind closed doors that we'll never really know.

It takes a little more than a casual glance at a chart to determine motives or actions. Not all operations can be detected nor are all price movements directly related to mkt manipulation. It's the concept that's important. Just be aware of much larger fish in these waters, their motives may not be easily understood. That's why it's more important to know how to follow and less important to know why.

LHR B747// I think Knottingham has described usd/cad below amply for the time being but to ans your question, I proposed a long and I should have said "a day or two" as it's just about reached it's intermediate low..in the not very long term. USD/CAD on the 30 day chart heading down generally but on the 3 year chart it's on a general cycle UP..hence my long term long statement posted below. You can see this a little better using a 10 year chart. I think this forum is trending towards long term big picture and big-big picture outlooks to decipher and justify more the short term trends, more than it had been, which is good.

usdcad...not necessarily my own take but views from folks I've spoken to during the day...a market already hampered by a quiet Monday must also contend with Canadian holiday today...market seems intent on testing last week's low but should be noted that has yet to make a daily close below an important trendline today at 1.3704 and may struggle to do so with few new themes on the table...a further trendline comes in at 1.3665 and there is also talk of a head and shoulder development but not many takers on that scenario playing out today...that said IMM data does indicate that cad shorts increased although the business end of last week's move came after May 18th so many while expecting a turnaround in net shorts, most see the market as still net short cad and a technical break (shs) could see the pair head towards 1.34/1.35 on further hedge fund selling...any move not likely to be on the scale of recent audusd bailing given political factors but risk of further correction later in the week remains nevertheless...gl gt

Large operators take a view on a particular ccy and then look for ways to buy or sell that ccy. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways but is often done simply by taking postions in multiple ccy pairs simultaneously (correlated trades). If the view is USD strength then operators will buy USD/JPY, USD/CHF, USD/CAD and also sell AUD/USD, GBP/USD, EUR/USD, etc. You get my point. Note: Some of the traders in this forum work for European banks or Asian banks so they concentrate on Euro pairs and/or Asian pairs in a similar way. I concentrate on USD pairs since I live and work in the US. GL & GT

I do believe however that the party train in the USD is slowing down. It could be over soon. Real money players are concluding campaigns and starting to position themelves for the summer doldrums. I'm trying to do the same. For those of you who do not know, many false breakouts occur in the summer months as the liquidity is not at full force. Strategies that involve pullbacks and retracements (buy on dips & sell upticks) will perform better than momentum b/o strats. Just speaking from experience, the summer for a small spec can become frustrating, perhaps dangerous (deplete capital) if not careful. Standing aside, preserving capital may be the best trade you can make.

USD buying operations not over yet IMO. I would watch USD index for clues. USD bears need 90.00 level taken out as it provided a nice bounce on Friday. Do not make the mistake of only focusing on one ccy pair as all boats should float together, if not watch for passenger bail out as the ship sinks. Over 91.00 and we might see a final spurt of energy in the USD before beginning a new scenario. C.O. operations do not appear to be over. Range Trade strats until we can shakeout one side or the other.

FX UPDATE 24/05
Good morning,

***EUR***
EUR/USD (currently 1,1940), 40 pips lower than Friday opening. The market tried the upsides last friday but first resistance at 1,2050 held and rejected the pair inside 1,1900-1,2050 trading range. In the US, the last data shows some encouraging employment conditions while inflation remains a risk (producers start to adjust selling prices on input prices). Over the week end, G7 statement left the markets unaffected, while Saoudi Arabia's decision to hike oil production by 10 percent slightly relieved prices from upsides pressure. Again his morning we have the feeling that the market is accumulating momentum for another upsides test (target 1,2170). First support appears at 1,1900 then 1,1850 where we will be looking to build long positions. Resistance around 1,2050, then 1,2100. We still favour range trading with bullish bias.

Gold at 384,00, with WTI June at 39,80

***JPY***
USD/JPY (112,70). The pair is retracing from friday's 111,80 low but finding it hard to break former 112,80 support. The market is looking to consolidate inside 112-113,50 before next move. Recent range 104-112 could give way to a new range 111-120 but 115 still remains to be broken to open door to higher level.
EUR/JPY currently 134,65, looking rangy inside 133-135,50.

Cable (currently 1,7840), retracing from Friday's 1,7950 high. 1,7800 support needs to hold for another try of the upsides later (medium term target 1,8050).
EUR/GBP (0,6695) retraced to 0,6680 support zone. We still favour some buy on dips strategy but a significant break of 0,6680 would negate latter scenario.(intermediate 0,6870 target before 0,7000 long term).
Have a nice day,

I was short on pound since it gave a sell signal at 1.7847 to get 1.7790 but the euro ( which gave a sell signal as well) reached its down target when pound wasn't half way of it. That shows the sellers of pound miss of conviction. It's now in buy mode to get 1.7910(moreover it's not overbought at all). So if never I sell, it would be around that number. 1.80 is the ultimate top but if you look on the daily chart , this number is above the downtrend canal so carefull.Usd/jpy gave a sell signal since it touched 112.95 and this should help the others majors against dollar.

Sure, you'll be LUCKY over a short time period, but just wait till you have a big down day and you add to your losers and eventually blow out your account with your 100/1 leveraged account or is it 200/1.

Could I know your arguments for a weaker usd/jpy please? thank you.

Firstly, I trade a longer time frame than most of the gun slingers in here. If you take a look at the 4hr chart, you will see the $ is clearly on a downward slope within a well defined channel that began on March 23.

Secondly, my system incorpoates a 50ma on both a 4hr and 8hr chart. When the price action is below both it means SELL.

Thirdly, all the hype over the US economy will blow over and is blowing over currently. The deficits are more important than creating $4 Macjobs to massage the job number.

Finally, do you believe we are trading on fundamentals? These markets (FOREX) are incredibly TA driven.

Mark my words, the dollar is in for a correction this week and next. I'm counting on it.

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day. The forex blog articles come from outside sources, including forex brokers research as well as from the professionals at Global-View.com. This forex blog includes the Daily Forex View, Market Chatter and technical forex blog updates.
