Surabaya Medaillon - where are you from? European?

Gold: I also bought some gold at 340 $ and some higher ... all together I'm a little in the red with gold in USD and EUR terms .... but that doesn't matter, because I would NEVER NEVER sell my gold (physical and coins). It's half a meter besides me ... feel like king midas!:)
Why did you sell your gold???

I'm also a medium- oder longterm trader - shares, PMs, currencies. My experience is: I'm sucessful, if I can follow the markets online ... I'm loosing, if I'm off, f.e. out in the office. But I still have to work some time for early retirement.

Therefore I've switched to the minis - smaller risc and I like to build positions. In the moment I like silver and will probably increase my holding at a better price, but think it won't get much better.
Second I'm "building" a QQQ short position ... don't think the market will go much higher ... upside risc is very limited.
Third I hope we will see EUR once more below 1.19 ... missed that train.

DPUD @ 910.
--------------------
Today :-
RELEASE: Retail Sales [Italy]: 0.8%
FIRST TAKE: Italian retail sales edged up 0.2% in April, partially reversing declines in the previous two months. Weak confidence and slow economic growth appear to be constraining retail spending.
RELEASE: MBA Mortgage Applications Survey [United States]: 601.2
FIRST TAKE: The MBA index held steady last week at 601.2. The purchase component of the index increased slightly and the refi component declined. Mortgage rates declined last week, but are still on an upward trend, which will eventually soften the demand for mortgages. Last-minute buying and inherent volatility in the index will keep the path downward from being a straight one.
RELEASE: ABC News/Money Magazine Consumer Comfort Index [United States]: -15
FIRST TAKE: The ABC News/Money Magazine consumer comfort index posted a big gain in the latest week, jumping five points. Coupled with the improvement in the early June University of Michigan consumer sentiment reading, this report is further proof that confidence began to turn the corner this month.
RELEASE: Monthly Mass Layoffs [United States]: 988
FIRST TAKE: Employers initiated 988 mass layoff events involving 87,501 workers in May. The manufacturing industry continues to account for the largest portion of mass layoffs, while the South region accounted for the most initial claims.
RELEASE: Oil and Gas Inventories [United States]: 305.4 MB
FIRST TAKE: Commercial crude oil stocks recorded a sizable build during the week ending June 18 amid continuing strong imports. Data for motor gasoline stocks were ambiguous, however. While the American Petroleum Institute recorded a sizable build in motor gasoline stocks, the Energy Information Administration reported a decline. Overall, today's inventory data will be bearish for petroleum markets owing to the sizable addition to commercial crude oil stocks.

I can understand your concern. In fact, I have already tasted the bitter part in this Gold thingy. Buy Physical Gold at $420 (got bullish) on January and sold them at loss in term of USD. Too much spread here (2.6%) and the security fees is around $500. But still a profit being made since the money used to buy it is in term of my own currency.

I have read about this site from Forbes around March and has been a silence observer on this forum. Hence, I have make profit in long USD/JPY pair (110.5 - 108.5). My only problem is time execution since I often miss the buying/selling opportunity at Europe or New York Time. I don't want to buy anything in the middle. I like buying low and holding long position. I don't usually monitor Forex prices unless it is as vital as this 30 June thingy.

Perhaps on Monday I will just buy some JPY if it is around 109 something and willing to take risk since there is not much yield on USD either.

p.s.
sirsadiq - trading capital should be the funds you can afford to lose - not the $$$ that you need to borrow. Even if you are the world's best trader, the added pressure of paying back on top of the need to book profits will affect your decisiveness and cause emotional attachment which always leads to losses

I would prefer normal account at an International Bank and need to be sure if the money would be secure. Broker won't tell you how to invest it. If you want somebody to trade the account for you, you have to look for account manager.
If you are trading yourself, it shouldn't be difficult to find a broker, find a good one is more difficult.

ICT ML 18:32 GMT June 23, 2004 Reply
Medallion.....that much $$$$$ you should stay away from mini accounts PERIOD!. For one, you PAY the rollover on the mini accounts at most brokers, regardless of position in market. The spreads are usually a bit wider on the mini accounts too. With $400K in hand, most brokers will kiss your feet to get your account at their house, so you could possibly negotiate better spread as well.

Mini acounts are great for smaller size accounts...but over $50K I think should go for the normal accounts.

Surabaya Medallion 18:25 GMT June 23, 2004 Reply
I'm wondering if most peoples here trade only with mini account? What would be the best way to manage real money (400,000 USD or more)? Problem with censored or censored is that they never mention where to put the money.

Agree CS. Given the competition from the brokers your decision of who to give your custom to should be based onprices/speads, roll point spreads, return on cash (official -1% is fairly standard) and abilty with orders. As always the bigger the players the more likely the ranges are consistent with the ineterbank market and therefore less likley to be snared on their own sympathetic price noises. If one needs 400 to 1 to trade FX it means you are trading like a guy who is trying to make his money back on the last race or as racing devotees will know it as the "get-out stakes" -LOL
If you can't afford the noise cut the initial size of your position. Most people make the simplistic mistake of calculating how big a position needs to be for them to make money. The market at the moment is ample evidence that an increase in turnover (part position adding/reducing) and a reduction of risk in the middle of the ranges is not a bad way of trading range markets. If you are partially adding to a position and you don't get 70/100% set then that's good- it's because you are making money-LOL
be lucky

I should add that unless your fx account is with a bank, your account balance is uninsured and unrewarded credit risk. There is a very real cost of capital. Even if it is with a bank, you need to be aware of the deposit insurance laws in the country that the bank is domiciled in.

Who cares if your broker offers 400:1? As long as you get fair treatment in the ovenight forward points for carrying your positions, your leverage is entirely up to you. Position sizes should be determined by your risk tolerance in the context of your whole balance sheet. If you have $100K total equity and want to risk 3% of your equity on a trade, set your entries, stops and position sizes accordingly, then put the minimum amount needed in your account to fund the position. Anything more and you are taking unrewarded credit risk. Seeking a broker that caps leverage at less aggressive ratios...

Valdez you know my broker, until recently (maybe 6 months) they only had 25:1.......now it is 50:1 max but you can adjust your max leverage between these 2 levels if you so desire (why I don't know). 400:1 would be nice to parley some winnings. Everyone always highlights how you can lose money very quickly but also remember if you are lucky you can make big $$$ just as quickly. In the long run there is an optimal bet size but you would have to live a couple thousand lifetimes and bet frequently everyday to approach the long run.

The new 400:1 leverage that now some platforms offer is purely scary to me in so far as newbies can LOSE THEIR AFTERBURNERS in one fell swoop. I've not seen thus far an "adjustable" leverage platform nor have seen one that is less than 50:1.

400:1 means your cap of $1k=$400,000. Incredible way to skin yourself for the unseasoned trader. Comments? Knottingham, what brokers offer low leverage in USA? Email me please at the implied addess.

a sensible level for a retail platform...but the important issue is when to use the 'leverage' at the max level.....hopefully it is when you are adding to a winning position and NOT to average price of a losing trade....(retail platforms would love to see over stretched customer accounts (its money in the till when the stop is elected)

re: returns - your target of annual return can be accomplished with a lower level of leverage. Fund achieve that with 3-5 times leverage....but it is all about managing the losers...

Chambery FR JFB 15:27 , is very important to have a system, complex or not, but most important is to accept losses as part of the game, in the long run a good risk reward and proper money management can do much more than a system who give you great % of accuracy in one year/period or in one cross and not so good in the others.Said that, small leverage- easier to leave your profits run and take losses too, good r/r, i like at least 3 to 1- can leave your system been right only 1/3 of the time to be on breakeven, allow you to do trades with small stress and some profits, only if your system is truly horrible. On that matter, the hardest thing is to determine the rules, not to write the script :-)

maybe I was a bit harsh, but I was referring to the statements you make like "EUR will be at 1.2235 tomorrow." well of course there is a certain probability it could, maybe even very high odds in your estimation, but how can you make a statement of fact about a future event? why not think in terms of how likely you think it is, where a good entry price is to express that view, and how you will handle things (ie stop loss) if things are not going your way ? you seem to be very good in math, why not even figure out the chance you see of that happening, compare it to the implied probability in options prices and buy a call option if you think it is underpricing your expected probablities.

Hi SG Jay, I quote Mizuho Bank Technical Analysis - AUD/JPY
Comments: The corrective move lower since March has pulled back a lot further than we had imagined, with big intra-day moves on the way down. Traders are probably sick and tired of this pair by now. We would point out that we are currently testing important long term support around 74.00, an area we feel should hold. The Australian dollar is oversold and bearish momentum has eased very significantly over the last week. Allow for a base to form over the next couple of weeks, then a rally, possibly a very sharp one, back up to 80.00 and probably no higher than 81.50 on a first attempt.

Strategy: Attempt small longs at 74.50/74.00; stop well below 73.75. Add to longs on a weekly close above 76.00 and again on a break above 78.00 for 80.00 to cover half and covering the other half at 81.00.

Quick comment on Fed next week - the meeting is two days (tues and Weds) - have seen comments here referring to Tues rate hike - typically the rate decision is announced on the second day (BoC announces on Tues next week) // it is "possible" that the Fed will announce the rate decision earlier than Weds afternoon because of quarter and month end on June 30 (Iraq handover?) but the Fed would likely give a "heads-up"

LHR...I don't think its about risk reward...online bookies use this principle to draw in the punters and you don't hear of too many shops going broke do you...however with every cloud there is a silver lining and the huge appetites these shops have for client money means they are always coming up with new gimmicks...recently a lot have introduced options + binaries that are very specific to certain events and on given occasions, if market prices sit at the right levels, it is possible to clean them out with returns of up to 30-50 to 1, for less than an hours work...the problem with it is that whether the prices are favourable or not is entirely down to luck, but should they be, then returns are guaranteed...gl gt

The BoE's MPC voted 9-0 to raise rates 25bp to 4.50% on
June 10, minutes show. Although there was no discussion of a 50bp hike at this
meeting, the MPC did refer back to its May decision when a 50bp rise was mulled,
but MPC didn't want to surprise the mkts. There were dovish comments from at
least one member in May and June despite the vote: the MPC was worried about
fallout from a house-price collapse and hopes raising rates now will encourage
"prudent approach" to debt accumulation.

UK ELC 08:44 GMT June 23, 2004 Reply

LONDON (Reuters) - All nine members of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee voted for this month's quarter-point rise in interest rates, minutes of their June 9 and 10 meeting show.

The decision to raise borrowing costs by a quarter-point for the second month in a row appears to have been fairly clear-cut for most of the MPC, who had thought that their inflation projections could have even warranted a half-point rate rise the month before.

But the June decision remained "finely balanced" for one member, who nevertheless still reckoned that a rate rise this month was consistent with the path of interest rates set out in the BoE's market rate projection published in May.

But there was little in the minutes on Wednesday to suggest how quickly any further rate rises may follow. Markets are pricing in anything up to a full percentage point of monetary tightening by the end of the year.

The minutes said that on balance the news since May suggested stronger external demand and inflation, particularly in UK-weighted terms. The euro zone was looking stronger while recovery in the United States and Asia was more firmly established.

Oil prices, which had risen sharply so far in 2004, were expected to have only a modest impact on the British economy, the MPC noted.

And while house price inflation had turned out stronger than expected, there were some tentative signs of it easing.

I think tone tonight in cable will be market pricing in expectations for the BoE minutes due out at 430 US EST. Market is expecting hawkish comments to come and voting to be around 7-2 (raise) or better. If this comes in around 5-4 or so..shorting cable will be the play. If the minutes come in hawkish as expected..I would recommend buying cable.

EURUSD> looks range bound here tonight...resistance comes in at 1.2145/50 then 1.2170 support down at 1.2105, 1.2080. I would favor a move to the downside here...looking to test the lower support levels. If it breaks above the support level here at 1.2150 we could get a sharp move up..I would say this scenario is less likely..but certainly possible. GL - GT

sa - To have an aducated guess, we need to know what's been the focus of this market lately; How agressive of the Fed might be? How badly the Twin-deficits and terrorism risk (including the Iraq mess) might hunt the US economy?
I think the latter are some "old" and repeatedly concerned issues and therefore always the issues, but the former is a "new" issue, in other words, attracting more attention at the moment (remember it works both ways too).
I am betting on long dollar side and willing to re-access the bias after 1.2370 gone.

some basic rules in this game :
1) Far East always sells or buys excessiveness
look at Euryen huge up in NY most wud sell first thing in the morning...
2) 2nd applicable point Europe being closer to NY will VERIFY AND CONFIRM that Euro bought today in Asia is also applicable to point (1)
then leads to (3) 1.2150 not touched validating the DNT talk?

Spr NoodyG 04:20 GMT June 23, 2004 Reply
Yup this is the rule of the jungle
FX junkies create such rumours
if you care to look the FX product is highly leveraged
and you actually magnified your bets thus widening the range..
whether its a bomb a silly DNT who cares
what moves the next 30-50 ticks and you got your 20-50 bucks positioned rite its fine

Va Raven 04:14 GMT June 23, 2004 Reply
RE: 1.2050-1.2150 DNT.
I have no way to verify that and feel no need to do it either. Because if anyone would put up such a trade, he or she must be something else. In eurusd market, within the time frame of a week, to lock that pair by 1 figure range, I do have trouble to understand the logic behind. Unbelievable.
Meanwhile, assume there is such a thing, then 1.2150 means really nothing, the question is what will happen after that, because I would just simply to trigger that so-called DNT and reverse. Remember, any deal has to be put up by both seller and buyer, same thing to the DNT.
In short, I am more interested in knowing why eur/usd is consolidated within such tight range for so long at such level ahead of teh expected Fed hike.... anyone?

JPY just gave me a sell signal although I was a bit late in entering, been testing some directional signals with the bands.

For JPY 26.54% of people selling now, 4.54% of people interested in buying.

this percentage could change as the day wears on.

Forex Forum

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day. The forex blog articles come from outside sources, including forex brokers research as well as from the professionals at Global-View.com. This forex blog includes the Daily Forex View, Market Chatter and technical forex blog updates. In additional to its real time forex forum, there are also Member Forums available for more in depth forex trading discussions.
