cal - the buyer of an option pays a premium to the seller and if either barrier of the Double no touch ( ie 1.2050 or 1.2250 ) is not hit before the expiration date of the option, the buyer receives a payout. If at any time before expiration the spot price touches either of those levels, the option knocked out and ceases to exist, with the seller reaping the premium but not having to pay anything out. sometimes the payouts can be very large, ie $10-15 mio, or more so you often see these barrier levels getting "defended" by the buyer.

Hi Viktor. Those ranges I posted are not targets just levels where this weeks prices are likely to fall between. Eur/gbp is currently outside the likely range and if it breaks 0.67 will signal to me a fundamental shift in demand for cable.....so that topside of the range very unlikely for now. Extremes of my posted ranges continue to offer good value tho....

Sorry, at yahoo. But it tells me that rather sooner than later you are going to be stopped out. I popped up on this forum after few months to warn of possible dollar weakness because I have seen a lot of bullish USD sentiments here last few days.

The big picture has not changed for me and we are in sideways corrective market.

There is no surprise in dollar weakness at all. But I would be surprised if all these stops above 1.22 will not be cleaned out before any USD advance against EURO. The best scenario for the market is to stop out some mid term shorts in 1.2350-1.2550 region before the turn.

Keep in mind levels for EUR/USD and AUD/USD I posted in my previous posts and good luck.

..and as Oil man pointed out below with his news post, you can fake it so long then the rubber band breaks and things pop back to normal. Normal in this case is a USD that doesn't have mummy (ECB, BOJ etc) looking after it keeping it falsely propped up and therefore falsely evaluated. If B 747 is right and we see a Fed rate of 1.75 in say 2005, (I'd bet we will) that will boost the USD a bit but not after a lot of exporting is done. 1.75% or even 2.00% isn't diddly squat anyway, look at other CBs' interest rates. Time to sell oceans of US oil in my book that will be 80% obsolete in 50 years! But I said that.

1.24+ means 1.24+, that is, something above 1.24 and that COULD (not a firm prediction of course) mean 1.27-1.32. Sorry I didn't include those possibilities but if you just draw that base line then factor in the pain threshold of the EZ which they admitted was 1.32 then it becomes "possible". Thanks for your question, sorry I was not more detailed.

Oilman//...what I've been preaching all along...look at the 3 year EUR/USD chart, draw a base line, look where it's going. That base line if extended shows we're on the way to 1.24+ which will make a lot of USA exporters jump with joy, help reduce the trade deficit and make the yank econ boom. If you've got an account based in USD now's a good chance after this peak to change 'em over to something else, matters little what. Don't be fooled by these little 100-500 pip chops.

/AB It should be on any news feed out there...

The U.S. dollar may be heading for a big fall, with analysts saying that rising inflation will force Asian central banks to cut the currency intervention that has been financing the massive U.S. current account deficit.
"The price to pay for the type of intervention we saw last year...is typically that you get infla
tionary pressure," said Jan
Lambregts, Rabobank's head of Asia-Pacific research.
"Last year that price did not have to be paid, but this time around, in an environment where inflationary pressure is on the
rise, such intervention could really throw fuel on the fire."
Goldman Sachs estimates that to cut the current account
deficit to three percent of GDP from about five percent now, the dollar would need to fall by about 20 percent.

GBP/$ probably a good short around 1.8204 now..1.8044 break today followed by 1.79 and 1.66 (not today offcourse..but the direction so far ..as things can change.).

So watch out 1.8050 break (if it comes).

FX UPDATE 24/06
Good morning,

***EUR***
EUR/USD (currently 1,2070), 70 pips lower than Wednesday opening. The market tried the upsides yesterday morning on some buy orders triggered by analysts purchase recommendations but stalled ahead of 1,2200 (high 1,2185) an important resistance we had been talking about a couple of days before. Then a huge GBP/USD sell order (2 yards) pulled EUR/USD down to 1,2080 support where it stood the rest of the trading day. Overnight USD gained some more ground (1,2040) on the back of FED Mrs BIES who declared that US interest rates are too low and are bound to raise above inflation on the medium term. We favour some range trading for today again, with first support around 1,2020 while resistance should appear above 1,2150 (stronger one at 1,2200). The big picture hasn't changed, we still believe the market will hover inside 1,1750-1,2350 for some time, with a slight downside bias until next week's FOMC rate decision.

Data out today:

UK BOE treasury committee inflation report hearing 08.30 GMT
US durable good orders May expected 1.5% 12.30 GMT
US initial jobless claims expected 340K 12.30 GMT
US new home sales May expected 1125K 14.00 GMT

Gold at 395,00, with WTI July at 37.38

***JPY***
USD/JPY (108,20). The pair is hedging lower against asian currencies in general and JPY in particular on strong stocks performance across the region. JGBs are near from multiyear highs, and overnight data is showing improvement in corporate sentiment and pick up in business activity. Traders are nevertheless wary of any BOJ verbal/market intervention and 108 level now appears as a pivotal point. We still believe that USD/JPY is hovering inside 108-112 trading , only a clear break of 108 would negate later scenario.
EUR/JPY currently 130.60, broke important 131 support zone yesterday and hedged lower to current levels overnight. a dip down to 129,50 is still possible in the coming days but we believe the market will recover and regain 132 equilibrium point.

***GBP***
Cable (currently 1,8160), was sold off from 1,8260 yesterday morning and rebounded overnight on 1,8110. 1,81-1,85 range has been containing the market since the end of May. Playing the range still seems a valid strategy.
EUR/GBP (0,6655). The cross is hedging slightly higher on GBP relative weakness but is stabilizing ahead of 0,6680. We remain neutral for the time being and expect 0.6620-80 range to contain price action this week.
Have a nice day,

Olivier

With the new STP (straight through processing) technology we can make a general forecast that old dealers type are on the road to extinction or at least only few will survive...
Exemple you can go on Deustche bank platform or ABN AMRO and have 1 click STP deals 100 M(or more and don't need a confirm request so it s very fast) a click and forget about calling a guy on the phone asking the prices and passing your order..all this on 1-2 wide (sometimes goes to 3-5 wide on major news..but that's only for a few minutes.)

UAE Oil man 05:54 GMT June 24, 2004 Reply
Actually the best part about the robots (automated API's functioning on systematic trades), is that no orders are never left with the brokers/banks..Who have a nasty habit of ALWAYS advertising the stops and entries..
so more and more people look to automate orders (or have human-robots) taking the orders from them..and leaving less and less orders at the brokers..

Eur/cad sell near 6450, 6540 stops t/p 1.5555
Eur/$ currently no signals need to see 1.2020 broken to get a direction..
GBP/$ probably a good short around 1.8204 now..1.8044 break today followed by 1.79 and 1.66 (not today offcourse..but the direction so far ..as things can change.).
Eurjpy good sell near 131.60/132.40 (My idea is it will finish near 115 in a matter of months.)
GBP/Jpy on the way to 192..(and much lower..)..If you didnt sell the 202-204 area..probably 198-199.50 area are good shorts.
$/CAD Strangely a short until 1.3736 broken..
AUD/$ 6950-7020 good short opportunities over that reassess.
$/Yen good short 109.20-110.50
$/chf about to give a buy signal once it goes over 1.2580-1.2620 but flat as i write this.
dow jones still on the long from 9820 add 10160 add 10267..does look like it's overbought which is good..might go up 200-500 points still faster than the previous 500-1000..Cut all 10250 breaks.
S&P good buy here 1130 stops 1120(that signal came yersterday)

Now I get to the best part, where i get to talk !!..The robot does all the work and I hardly have the opportunity to write my messy thoughts, looking at the current economics (with rates hiking, and alan behind the curve like he was in 1994 and the 250 points hike..but i already posted on that..)we could see much stronger yen against all pairs perhaps due to a rush in equities in japan, who may be out of the woods?..Who wouldnt want that unlimited growth and can't say they are overburdened by inflation right now....

thinking about buying gbp-jpy here in a bit, with a stop just under 196, looking for maybe a bounce to 197.25-50 in london, than maybe back down to sub 195 again.

Gbp-usd.....well only thing I have worth anything is that this would be the last chance on the weekly charts to keep this down move from 1.9200 in tact in my techies. A red close this week leads to several more red weekly candles.

Enjoy, missed a good tech sell signal at 1.8280 today. Maybe have better attention span today....LOL

If someone can help me display other pairs in DDE for metatrader then I can provide buyer and seller commitment levels like I did last night.

both my projections of commitment if i may call them that on JPY short and EUR long paid off well. I.E more were commited to buying euro so it broke through the barrier and more were willing to sell yen so it went down etc.

It's complimentary to the bands which had the disadvantage in the past of not being able to provide directional ability and only gave approximate levels, but now i haave finally made the badly needed changes and now we have direction plus the band's levels. =)

Cairo Amgad 02:05 GMT June 24, 2004 Reply
EUR and GBP suffer from crosses EUR/JPY and GBP/JPY, the crosses starts to rebound already, if they broke their recent lows, this will be high pressure on GBP and EUR

Key support for EUR is 1.2030 and GBP is under selling if 1.8080 broken

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs.
