End of Week Thoughts
Trading was active on Friday as the markets began to set up for the week ahead in the absence of major new data. The reaction of the dollar to a weaker than expected University of Michigan survey was muted, as it appeared that the markets had been set up for a weaker than expected outcome and had been caught short. This fueled a modest dollar bounce against the euro into the European close. The University of Michigan Index was virtually unchanged at 95.8 after 95.9 previously. A key focus at the end of the week seemed to be the yield on 10-yr bond yields. JGBs held 1.50% into a Monday holiday, and both German bunds and U.S. Treasuries held the psychological 4.0% line over the day. A decisive break lower would suggest growing gloom about the strength of the U.S. and European economies. It may be that the approaching fiscal half-yearend for Japan will impact trade in upcoming sessions, as institutions repatriate funds home to bolster the appearance of liquidity on balance sheets.
There is a good chance that some of that cash might find its way into JGBs. We also noticed that crude oil is closing the day at its highs for the week and through key resistance at $45.37.

1) Does it make sense?
2) Do I really know what I am talking about?
3) This is a Global Forum, am I responsible for whatever I said?
Of course, not always I answer them right, but I am trying and will.

With a
large short-term model player dumping nearly three quarters of a yard of EUR/USD

looks like it can"t get up. There are stops forming between 1.2140/45 and large
bids don"t even come into play until 1.2080. Look for further weakness as a
quick sample shows almost no EUR/USD short positions among day traders looking
for the market to corrector set to call it a week.....ifr......have a good week end fella's

When market participants can buy dollars on a strong New York Fed Empire Index number for September and see a 1% move and the next day sell dollars on a weak Philadelphia Fed business diffusion index also for the month of September for 0.5% move, then we are surely in a Forrest Gump market...stupid is as stupid does. Don't get me wrong, racking up 1.0-1.5% on these two numbers is not stupid. Like the movie character, there is much to be said about simplicity. I do not think anything striking will happen till next week's US rate decision, and especially the announcement afterwards. A 25 bp hike is a done deal, but more important is what to expect next.
Recently the Univ of Mich was not much of a market mover, but if a worse than expected number comes out, which I doubt, eur and pound might shoot north but not more than 2300 and 8035. That would be a nice selkling opportunity next week.

Sorry I thought I had posted the levels for eur/usd pair today. Retracement for eur/usd is 1.2190-95, 2215-20 and 2235-40. Resistance stays the same as my last comments and support is seen at 1.2180-90, 2160-50 and T/L (2120-30) for now. I believe that key resistance is around the 2260-70 area but a break out of the 2300-20 would go a long way for the bulls IMHO. GL GT

FWIW, my current thinking is that in EUR/USD we have been content trading a couple of percent either side of the 200 day ma for the last 4/5 months. Looking at the 4 hourly chart it looks this morning as though the MACD's and moving avgs are starting to turn higher and therefore the bias will now be to the topside for a few trading sessions at least. Above 1.2236 (61.8 pct of the recent sell off 1.2310>1.2117) should see a move towards 1.2300. The reaction up there is key as we are then approaching potential breakout territory.

Interesting point iw. Also, for a lot of smaller traders it is becoming more and more difficult to hold onto postions in the current market, where we trade from one peice of US data to the next with nothing in between. Massive gaps and slippage kills them. Don't know if it is going to improve in the near term.

A comment on that Cashman, the worst performers as a group of hedge funds this year have been the CTA:s, most of which are systemic traders. Incidentially I talk to a few of them and they all say that they see very little redemptions, rather people putting more money in on the dip. Most of them indeed post very sad numbers, as is easy to guess by just looking at a chart of EUR/USD, as opposed to a bumper year last year. Many are trying models with faster signals or discretionary overlays at the moment.

To stimulate domestic europrean demand ECB should raise interest rates asap since contrary to US and UK european consumers save first and buy with saved money. So as has been shown for the last five years in Europ too low interest rates coppled with too high taxes are killing domestic european demand. Also inflation - excluding gasoline, food, restaurants ,indirect taxes, local community taxes, eco taxes, water taxes, clean air taxes, solidarity taxes, european expansion taxes - excluding whatever rises, European inflation is NO PROBLEMA.

ken, it's been quite a bad period for many. It was reported earlier in the week in the FT that some of the major hedge funds have lost up to 30 pct of their funds since the start of the year. A lot of people (myself included) not good at trading in non-trending markets.I know it's no consolation but a lot of people in the same boat. Got to be a bit more flexible at the moment, or wait until the market starts to trend again. A member on GVI yesterday predicted that once this consolidation ends we could see a massive 16 cent move in Eur/Usd one direction or the other. Once you spot the trend try to jump on it and hold on. Good luck.

Thank you and I hope you are doing well also. Trying to get back to normal and dodging hurricanes left and right literally LOL. I look at weekly and monthly as long term. The mid term is the daily charts and sometimes 4hr but I also use it for intraday positions too. Right now the 1hr chart indicators for the eur/usd pair are in O/B area suggesting that this resistance will hold but the 4hr chart still has room to go further north IMHO. I have posted the resistance and support before but retracement has changed a bit only. Funny how different things can seem to be depending on what time frames you look at. I posted earlier that mid term chart has a descending triangle (this is usually a bearish pattern) but if you look at the long-term chart you would see a bullish symmetrical triangle forming. This of course will only be verified by the break of the triangles and the range that has this pair in a stalemate for most of the year IMHO. GL GT

You are right the chart for eur/usd is not very pretty for trend followers but I feel that the Bermuda triangle will have to break sooner or later (I hope sooner). I was hoping that this action would of taken place already but that obviously has not happened yet. As I posted before I am inclined to a bearish mid term out look on this pair but long term it is still very bullish. So far it is play the ranges on this pair (sell on rallies) until the range is broken. I have resistance and support still around the same as my earlier comments IMHO. GL GT

Thank you for the kind words Martin but there are many here better than me and if NY LEARNER is serious about this he or she will decide in due time. My comments since you have asked for help in this matter is not to offend but to give you my thoughts. The question you have asked is a vague question and one that cannot be answered in the way you would like. There are many styles of trading practiced in this forum and you will have to find out which style you like the best. This will be acquired in time as you read comments and learn the trade. Some will be BS and others will be very useful in your future trading. This is not a 100-yard dash but a full marathon and even if you finish nothing is guaranteed that you will make a profit. It took me nearly 2 years before I posted my first comments in this forum by then I had an idea of who was worth a read for my way of trading. There was a suggestion earlier to read the archives, when you have a question go to the archives they will help a lot. If for some reason you do not find the answer there then ask the question in the help forum there are plenty people here that will help. I suggest you read and read and read. That is the only way you will decide whose ideas better compares to yours IMHO. I hope this helps you get started. GL GT

Okay Friends been lazy long enough this summer. First attempt at any real serious analysis tells me this:
$YEN is poised to breakout of either a down channel top, target 115 then 120, or an up channel bottom for 105. Think breaks of 110 for a long and 109 for a short good entries. It is right on the lines intersection now. Think this is best R/R I see for now.
Eur-Gbp could be another good R/R trade sell .6800-50 for .6550 then .6475 maybe. Stop could be at .6880 bid weekly channel top. Weekly stuff is toying with idea of turning back down if not today then next week. If so it will be a strong signal.
$Cad sell into 1.3100 if seen for 1.2675 then 1.2500 weekly channel boundries. In middle now so don't know if I'd start from here but weekly bias still down. Might sell a break of last weeks low if it doesn't bounce soon.
Aud$ sell .7100 for .6700 key sppt zone still .6840-.6770. If breaks look for .6335. This one has decent daily signal but weekly is muddy.
Gbp-Usd sell 1.8050 for 1.7700 then 1.7500. It could bounce a few times sideways in range until it hits the weekly channel line at 1.8050 and then heads down. Daily says sell it but got some doubts. Weekly is a coin toss.
Eur-Usd complete waste of time in my book. all squiggles and no deciveness. Same for $Swiss right now.
These are not pip raiding trade suggestions. Expect to hold them for quite awhile.

ICT ML / that was exactly my point, i dont want tip givers. what i meant by "guru" was people who one cud learn from, though not necessarily follow. I wanna LEARN trading so I can EARN my own money. The Rationale. The Method. The Way to run WITH the market rather than beat it. Those kinda things I wanna learn. I hope you get my drift. Now can you give some tips on who the better ones are?

To be labeled a "Guru" around here brings on a curse against ones equity and ability to see through the cloud of invincibility and arrogance. You'll have to figure it out for yourself who is hot at any given time. It is like a travelling trophy. Be observant and yee shall see.

This is it for me from the 109.30 $yen failure. Catch a spill near 40ish for a few more later probably. If the bias is clearly not in support, go the other way above 50. Disclaimer, opinion only, not a recommendation.

Study by Fed concluding it could buy Treasurys specifically to drive down U.S. long-term rates could, on flip side, fuel fears that rates could be driven up if foreign central banks stop buying Treasurys, says WSJ's George Ip. Study looked at Japan's large-scale Treasurys purchases in 2003 and 2004, which may have knocked 50-100 bps off yields. "That could fuel fears that an end to foreign central banks' Treasury buying could send yields higher, contradicting Greenspan's assertions to the contrary," says Ip
