'The Twelve Days of Christmas'.

On the first day of Christmas,
my big boss said I'm key
So he's got a good bonus for me.

On the second day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Two regulators a-probing,
But there's still a good bonus for me.

On the third day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Three CEOs a-resigning,
Two regulators a-probing,
And there's still a decent bonus for me.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Four banks are imploding,
Three CEOs a-resigning,
Two regulators a-probing,
And there's still a decent bonus for me.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Five Goldman stings,
Four banks are imploding,
Three CEOs a-resigning,
Two regulators a-probing,
So there's no large bonus for me

On the sixth day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Six bosses are a-praying,
Five Goldman stings,
Four banks are imploding,
Three CEOs a-resigning,
Two regulators a-probing,
So there's no large bonus for me.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Seven clients a-suing,
Six bosses are a-praying,
Five Goldman stings,
Four banks are imploding,
Three CEOs a-resigning,
Two regulators a-probing,
So there's no large bonus for me.

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Eight hedge funds a-failing,
Seven clients a-suing,
Six bosses are a-praying,
Five Goldman stings,
Four banks are imploding,
Three CEOs a-resigning,
Two regulators a-probing,
Now there's only a small bonus for me.

On the ninth day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Nine executives have been fired,
Eight hedge funds a-failing,
Seven clients a-suing,
Six bosses are a-praying,
Five Goldman stings,
Four banks are imploding,
Three CEOs a-resigning,
Two regulators a-probing,
Now there's only a small bonus for me.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Ten thousand lay-offs,
Nine executives have been fired,
Eight hedge funds a-failing,
Seven clients a-suing,
Six bosses are a-praying,
Five Goldman stings,
Four banks are imploding,
Three CEOs a-resigning,
Two regulators a-probing,
Now there's hardly any bonus for me.

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
my big boss said to me
Eleven billions in write-downs,
Ten thousand lay-offs,
Nine executives have been fired,
Eight hedge funds a-failing,
Seven clients a-suing,
Six bosses are a-praying,
Five Goldman stings,
Four banks are imploding,
Three CEOs a-resigning,
Two regulators a-probing,
Now there's hardly any bonus for me.

Pricing probes on Wall Street gather steam - WSJ
WSJ reports rgulatory investigations into mortgage-securities pricing are examining whether financial cos should have told the public earlier about the declining value of such securities and how they priced them on their books, people close to the matter say. The regulators, led by the SEC, also are delving into whether Wall Street cos placed higher values on their own securities than those they placed on customer holdings, the people say. "As in most investigations, the issue comes down to what did people know and when did they know it," said Mark Schonfeld, director of the SEC's New York office. Among the cos the SEC is examining for their mortgage-securities valuations and disclosures are UBS and MS. The probes are among the roughly three dozen investigations opened by the SEC tied to the downturn of the subprime market, which primarily is tied to low-end borrowers.

‘It is pipping time again.’

The EUR/USD market is quiet, so must be early holiday season.

I have down pressure for the pair on the longer term charts with the 38.2% fib of 1.4352 on the 1 day chart still yet to be broken. The 50% fib is 1.4163 with the SMA (105) at 1.4167.

Short term charts I have taken pips on up and down so far, although, the market appears to be still trending down, so am now cautious of buys.

Daily pivots:

R1 1.4375
I6 1.4367
M3 1.4359
I5 1.4350

The price has been bouncing around these levels so far.

Have used RSI (8) on 1 min chart to bounce the price and Bollinger bands on 1 min and 5 min charts. Confirming with other indicators on other time scales.

Pips where pips are on offer.

[USD/JPY] and JPY crosses were again mostly range-bound in Asia. USD/JPY wasstuck in a 112.96-113.27 range, little changed over the week. The market remainsbracketed by orders, offers ahead of the Ichimoku cloud top at 113.55 and stopsabove this level, 113.75 and option barriers at 114.00. Offers are mixed in onthe upside, notably from Japanese exporters. Downside, bidding interest remainsaround 113.00 and trails lower. Stops are seen below the triple bottom at112.70-75, 112.50 and 112.00 but, like the topside, bids are seen all the waydown, notably from Japanese importers.

[EUR/USD] opened at 1.4320 in Asia after losing ground overnight despite weak USdata, lower US yields and a modest bounce on Wall Street. Year-end repatriationflows from US investors looks to have been responsible for the sales. EUR/USD
was bid early in Asia due on EUR/JPY buying out of Tokyo. EUR/USD rose to 1.4335on the back of these flows, later adding to gains as USD came under broadselling pressure. The high was 1.4364, the low 1.4317 early.

[The Nikkei] rose today, trading up from an early low of 14,998.01 to as high as15,275.61 in the afternoon. It closed just off its highs at 15,257.00, up 225.40points or 1.5% on the day. [TOPIX] closed at 1469.20, up 11.64 or 0.8%. Mostother bourses in the region were also up.
[JGBs] and [Euroyen] futures traded heavy today with the BoJ looking to remainon hold for quite a while despite possible economic weakness ahead. Higherstocks helped weigh on the market. The yield on the benchmark 10-year JGBsclosed at 1.550%, up from 1.515% yesterday.

Poor Toshihiko Fukui, governor of the Bank of Japan.

He may have to cut borrowing costs. In 2008, japan may get a negative interest rate....

And gut feeling only , but the 1.43 euro/us$ level has been well defended so far this week.. FWIW

If that slow market movement goes on, I may expect Eur/Usd to close at the year-end within the range 1.4160-1.4170 or close to it, an ideal level leaving traders pondering for the USD direction for next year.
Carry traders may do well, thus possibly sending the JPY to about 114.40 for year-end close.
I don't accept views like those of Zeus which are nationalistically tainted, much less I will be very surprised if Euro will end the year at about 1.38 as was suggested by others.

The Mkt for next year at least for the beginning may be a kind of rollercoaster, so at least for the time, it is too early to play requiem for the Euro.

NZD/USD ticks up after RBNZ data show total credit card billings bounce back in November after slight drop in October; pair last at 0.7634 compared with 0.7622 immediately before data. Data could indicate some resilience in spending, despite headwinds from higher oil, food prices, which will likely raise flag for RBNZ on possible inflationary risks as it looks for signs domestic demand is slowing after 4 rate hikes so far this year.

JPY crosses like EUR/JPY may rise on buying by Japan investors on receding risk aversion following gains in U.S. stocks overnight, says trader at Tokyo securities company; adds "demand from Japanese financial institutions for the crosses seems strong because they are now buying overseas bonds in pursuit of still-high interest rate differentials". But lingering concerns over fallout from subprime crisis expected to keep any gains capped. Focus now on Asia stock moves, earnings reports from U.S. financial institutions. EUR/JPY likely to move in 161.60-162.50 band for now
