Should see a lot of traders get their hustle on today for crude oil and the SnP 500's. Imagine the white wine types (fixed income pikers) will be jumpy and risk averse-Today is for meat lovers instead.

Yen looks to be a busy one as well along with the usual suspects. Enjoy the smooth butter rolls today. No spice needed with buttery market flows. Just get it and crush it!

Yes- a crushing theme for the day remains. Get the sledge out and hammer on it!!!

However, these equities are likely to recover slightly, amid short-covering, Friday and early next week. The U.S. S&P 500 futures contract has so far fallen some 16% from its October peak, declining by 5% this week alone.

Month I5 pivot – 1.4618
Week S1 pivot – 1.4619
Daily M2 pivot – 1.4615

I have no definite direction for the EUR/USD at the moment for this trading session. My indicators say there is up pressure from the short and intermediate charts with RSI’s coming up from over brought. But the price is remaining under the daily pivot and below the longer set SMA with indicators saying down on the longer term charts.

I guess it is pips where you see them for now with a general down pressure, but profit on the bounces.

Despite a dreadful December retail sales report UK bank trader says cable is still a buy and the 1 cent selloff post data offers a good opportunity. DJ MARKET TALK: EUR/USD Consolidation Likely -Commerzbank
Thursday's EUR/USD price action, after ECB member Mersch's initial dovish comments, showed how the market will react if rate cut speculation is allowed to intensify, says Commerzbank. However, with Mersch's comments subsequently toned down, and Trichet remaining hawkish, bank says the markets may have to wait until the next ECB meeting for clarity. That should leave EUR/USD in a consolidative mood, trading in a 1.4525-1.4850 range next week, before rising back toward 1.49-1.50 ahead of the Fed's rate decision.

With the European Central Bank sounding a little less hawkish than usual, the outlook for the U.S. economy still deteriorating, and with continued strong U.K. inflation data making it more difficult for the Bank of England to cut interest rates, the pound's outlook could be looking brighter again.
Some forecasters suggest that the pound could bounce back over $2.00, with Steve Merrigan, technical analyst at The Royal Bank of Scotland in London, suggesting that if there is a weekly close over $1.9755 there could be a more protracted recovery to $2.0125.

Reasons of Us economic problems more than subprime.

-cost of war in Iraq and Afganistan
-Us so called strong dollar policy which let to permanent dollar depreciation
-high oil priced caused by Middle East instability and increased demand
- high food priced caused by Biofuel subsidies and increased demand
-twin Us deficits
-negative Us saving rate
-negative real Us interest rates for long period which let to huge speculation in real estate and stocks
-yen carry trades which let to even more speculation in Us assets
-the Greenspan put leading to even more speculation
-Wall Street selling AAA bonds all over the world which turn out to be wortless

and probably a lot of other reasons

Still think Us economy will rebound strongly depite Us government and Fed actions.. Less is more.

fwiw - There is an old analogy in the market, and at the risk of sounding horribly cliché, it is so true.

Your portfolio is a garden. You are starting with only a certain number of seeds, your capital, and you are going to plant those seeds. As they begin to grow, you are going trim those and use the shoots to start new plants. Some of your plants will begin to die, and you want to pull those quickly to protect the entire garden. Others will continue to blossom, and these you will trim and plant again. Trim and plant. Trim and plant. It is a constantly evolving rotation of money and growth.

The quirky situation in this market will be resolved by Bernake in a "hero" style of: "Deus ex machina".

The interest cut in the US which may come at any time, maybe even today will be the key.
Friday an ideal day to cause earthquakes all over the Mkt.

I suspect from the way the Mkt. moves, that it will be bigger than the Mkt. expectation, as this is the nature of the "Deus ex machina" system of resolving problems.
Maybe a 75bp or 100bp which will send the stock mkts higher. Where possibly, those who know are already silently charging their portfolios with carries .

While NZD/USD could yet drop further along with other commodity currencies on global equity markets decline, risk appetite drying up, ABN Amro currency strategist Greg Gibbs says he's not expecting a sustained fall at this stage; "It's been pretty choppy, sideways trading for the last 3 or 4 months and this is another manifestation of that." Adds "(but) you've got yield spread over the U.S. of over 5%, that's pretty chunky...I think if overseas markets were to settle down you'd see a pretty rapid bounce back just as you've seen a rapid fall."

One last quip as the market sleeps, you're right, BOJ WAS supposed to step in and didn't. There's been a few "supposed to" things that haven't happened lately. Pundits & experts are constantly being "alarmed" at the market lately...tells me they are wannabe gurus or the mkt is THAT squirrely that no one can "get" it. I'd take the later as truth. Some mkt moves make no sence lately so it says to me either the mkt is very confused, or it's constantly on the "wrong side", lots of FXers backing out of sour possies to sustaining losses, positions unwinding as people back out from fear... Anyone who plays heavy in this sort of market may as well treat him/herself to a nice week in Las Vegas, at least there you get free shrimp cocktails and drinks or just go to a skin show while you lose money.

According to Master Bush, taxpayers could get a kickback to stimulate econ, just a bandaid because how long does it take to spend a measley $800 bucks? Not long, that's only 3 weeks of supermarket food for Joe Familyman, so this Bush-tax break means nothing. If USA DOES slip into bonefide recession it's hades for anyone exporting to it (read: world). There can't be too much "hades" as the world is wobbly economically already, let alone the major buyer not buying. So if this scenario comes to pass, hold on to your hats...safehouse instruments will soar with demand. It might even touch off major war...the world is slippery with excuses for war at this point..one banana peel is enough to trigger major smoke. All wars are economic in nature..go figure. I'm sitting back and chewing a twig until I see some stability before making any financial gambles.

I see FX as a mass of confused players this early in the year, with all the variables on the supper table, fierce geopoliticals that wiggle oil production i.e. USA vs Iran, Israel vs Iran, Iraq vs Iran, Iraq worsening, evidence mounting weekly of a USA recession looming with all the side effects. Pakistan adds to M.E. instability...means oil can soar more. CAD trembles as USA's figures slump (2/3-3/4 of Canada's EXPORTS go to USA). Fed has to eat more crow..cuts being priced in, 100% chance of -.50bps Jan 30 with rumbles of surprise additional cuts as the dollar monkey looks down the barrel of economic shotgun muzzles. Frankly this market is so hackey I'll only do long term keeping my swissie. EUR..I've never trusted it, ever, to long it much more than a scalp. GLGT fellas.

President Bush is expected to lay out broad principles for an economic-stimulus plan Friday, steering clear of specific details after consultation with lawmakers.

Momentum behind the package gathered steam this week as worried lawmakers returned from their Christmas break after receiving an earful from constituents worried about the economy, high heating-oil prices and the collapsing housing market. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke voiced support for a short-term stimulus in Congressional testimony Thursday.

Aussie Govt Tackles Inflation Spiral; RBA Looms
The RBA hiked rates in August, then in November, in a bid to tame inflation pressures. Rates are now 6.75%.
Recent data, including figures Thursday showing 20,100 jobs were created in December, while the unemployment rate fell back to 4.3%, underscore the strength of Australia's economy. They also show the wage-inflation pressures the RBA faces and keep the possibility of further tightening in play. A February hike is not a certainty - financial markets now put the chance down around 30%. Most economists say the RBA will take its cue from fourth quarter consumer price index data, due Jan. 23, rather than any promise of fiscal prudence from the government. Still, consensus expectations are for core inflation to print around 3.3% on-year in the quarter. Some economists think that'll be enough to tip the balance toward a rate hike. "I think if you have a highish (inflation) number there against a pretty strong domestic backdrop, I think it leads to rate rises even with some of the concerns about what's happening in the rest of the world," Commonwealth Bank of Australia Chief Economist Michael Blythe says. Certainly, the Australian economy - fueled by demand for the country's vast natural resources - does seem to be on something of a divergent economic cycle to the U.S.
But no matter how things play out Feb. 5, one thing is certain: Rudd's tete-a-tete with at the RBA will hold little sway.
