USD/JPY May Fall Due To Heavy Exporter Sales
Reply
USD/JPY biased down due to expected heavy sales by Japanese exporters, who could rush to sell to settle ahead of Japan's 5-day weekend starting Saturday, says senior sales dealer at major bank in Tokyo. Also investors want to test downside: "The dollar rose above Y91.50 overnight but came back to near Y91.00. That shows some players plan to push the dollar down," he says. Adds, watch out for Japanese officials' comments, such as from new Finance Minister Fujii, in support of strong JPY; though such comments would be nothing new, they've been causing fairly sharp reactions for USD/JPY recently. USD/JPY may trade in 90.50-91.45 range vs 91.16 last. EUR/USD may rise, with tipped range of 1.4700-1.4800 vs 1.4739 last. EUR/JPY may trade in 134.00-135.50 range vs 134.40 last.

So I find this quote on the internet: "You know, you logical, left-brain people often have a hard time trading...engineers, developers, technicians, even plumbers... anybody who's used to following a process in their line of work. They always struggle."

Therein lies a problem, I am an engineer and a DBA. I am process driven. Probably explains why I am always waiting for confirmation before entering a trade - and by then its often too late. Will need to resolve this pronto...

Hello,

I am rebuilding my systems , clones and setup. So I have a lot of things to do these days and many new probs to solve.

Today I have managed to find some time in the New York session. The currency went south initially with a specific choppy way.

Exactly in Dow open, touched the central pivot, formed a consolidation triangle and I have placed my traps.

See the rest in the video.

Thank you for watching.

Sofia,

I'm in that group...........as you know, I'm a "trend" trader, and look for home runs. I copied this to post here just to illustrate my thinking, which I also made a call for shorting usd/cad..........always on GVI side.

This side has the likes of FM, Zeus, Mailman etc. that give good guidance. But I would encourage all serious players to join the GVI side. There you have some real specialists.......
jr....daily gives awesome flow levels in eur/usd and usd/jpy. You have JP and Pumpkin that are very advanced traders in usd/cad. Your favorite mentor, AL, makes different posts over there appealing to professionals. You have energy specialist houston st. You have Jay and John who are fantastic market readers and traders. The list goes on.......nh,sfh.......and many more. You are enrolled I know, but those that are not................being on GVI is worth it's weight in gold, literally!

Anyway, gl/gt....

Some reasoning: Reply
The US commercial real estate future looks dim at best.

Examples include: Boston's Hancock Tower......once a pillar of big wheeler dealers and top flight commercial holding, has now traded hands 4 times in 6 years, each new owner getting smacked for big bucks. The economy has lost 7 million jobs. There are literally stacks of floors totally unoccuppied in huge commercial buildings. The Blackstone Group, giants.............their mammoth real estate portfolio is down 45%. The "shadow" banking system---unregulated financail institutions like Wall St. banks, hedge funds, and private equity firms have flooded the financial sector. The chopped up retail real estate loans/mortgages..........easy money, sub-prime, ad naseum...............is NOT resolved. There is such a mass of debt due in 2010.......it just looks ugly to me. I could go on, but the point is pretty clear. We're far from out of the woods..........and, as always, I don't what pundits spin they're propogating.

I think 150 is in the cards for eur/usd; we haven't seen the high in gold; and I hold far more emerging market ETF's than US based. Also, usd/jpy < 90. I have all these bets on even when in the blind.........to me they seem so obvious. And bonds.............could be a "home run" on the downside.

I think I was wrong once, can't remember for sure..........but right now this is my story and I'm sticking to it.

gl/gt

well just as a side note I was thinking - since start of Sept '09 anybody who bought 1.4250/1.43 EUR/USD has never been offside - 12 days clear trend - which means 400 pips no worry trade.

I only interested to the bright minds who bought around 1.43 and are still holding trailing stops below 1.4650... those must be the people I'd like to learn trading from..

The closing rate in New York session would give us a better idea on whether the market would like to charge ahead towards the upper trading range of 1.4811 - 1.4892 or it will retrace back to 1.4569 - 1.4650. The mid-point reference of 1.4569 and 1.4892 is 1.4731 which is also the closing rate on Wednesday.

Actually , I was already looking before crisis for 2.0 in OZI..

However , being it was used for carry (and the way the were over leveraged) , it's was a good sense to see it ONLY drop that much...(See gold which held it's own).

Do i foresee OZI at 2.0 in 6 months?

I'd say (but then i didn't look at an OZI chart for a long time , as i have a cat for that).. YES....But it might be a BIT under 2.0...Like 1.95 or so...Euro does have a bit of catchup to do...Particularly with EY , going back to 160.

What an improvement....

I think market should go back to whatever it was doing prior to 'crisis'..

SELLING US$ and with even stronger force...1.55...Yes, but why not beat the record 1.60X plus (not before jan of course...Things like that take time)...

But all in all , IF 1.60 EUROSD , and 1.95 GBPUSD , well it still shows GBP as the lagging ccy..

Wouldn't that also push the USDCHF down?

SNB can talk as much as they want...

Acting , is on a different levels, particularly when the forces around them make them appear as dwarf...

It's NOT an all out war out there...And SNB , is definitely not going to win if they start making one..

Sometimes it feels like you guys trade in a vacuum by only looking at charts. News is important. Did anyone see the SNB statement just now reaffirming it will intervene to limit chf appreciation vs. the eur? It was as expected. When SNB omits this from the statement, then you have a market mvoing event.

Winning 100% by betting 8% ,you call this killing yourself, or a satanic idea?

Frankly i see that a very good BET (which any trade is)....just that bet as a good R/R..

Anyways, we will see in 6 month time...

Always easy to call mid long term bet, scam , satanic...But then , if you look at my past...I did call from .9920 euro to 1.26 in december (340 days later)...Meanwhile people were recalling for .87...

Good trades, should always have 2 sides...The smaller the winning side is, the more chance it has of happening....(Not everone can win)...

But they'll reverse their pos near 1.78..Then it will accelerate to downside...

Good trades to you.

Bankers Accounting Tricks
Reply
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2009/sep/16/barclays-sells-credit-assets

Two top bankers are leaving Barclays to manage a fund in the Cayman Islands that is buying $12.3bn (£7.47bn) of the bank's most troublesome assets.

The deal was criticised by analysts who questioned its complexity, but it will enable the British bank to report a more stable performance in future. Throughout the financial crisis, Barclays has been forced to defend the way it was pricing and accounting for these troublesome assets and is now hoping to smooth out the effect of the investments on its profits.

The assets will not actually be removed from the bank's balance sheet for regulatory purposes but the accounting treatment will be changed, allowing Barclays to avoid taking further big hits by no longer needing to price its assets at current market values through the convention known as "mark to market".

Under the deal terms , Stephen King and Michael Keeley will set up C12 Capital Management which, while based in New York, will manage the new Cayman Islands-registered fund Protium and buy the assets from Barclays.

1.0600 is the breakneck ridge for more losses for the USD. a breach which may lead to nice stoplosses.

Will it be breached? Maybe not too easy like the 1.0645 this afternoon, but daily momentum indicators still look sufficiently generous to let it happen.

So the nervously short-term trader, may sideline for a time, in a hope for some recoil which may happen (or not).

A breach of the 1.0600, is the key for a a price drop toward 1.0345.

Dlr Bears' Curr Acct Gap Argument "Simplistic"
Reply
Brown Brothers Harriman senior currency strategist Win Thin eyes flaws in using U.S. current account deficit as part of dollar bear story; says in note that U.S. current account gap expected to narrow to 2.9% of GDP this year vs 4.9% in 2008, and about 6% of GDP in both 2005, 2006; "that trend is unmistakably dollar positive, and yet the dollar has been largely weaker over that period and so other factors are clearly at work." Notes market looking for slight widening of current account gap in 2010 to 3.2% of GDP, which "hardly worrisome". But expects dollar bears "to start making noise" about widening U.S. gap again, as a U.S. economy pick-up likely to lead to increased imports; advises against using "such a simplistic argument" as part of a dollar bear story

I think we would all like to see decent corrections to provide better entry levels but any setbacks have been shallow. Maybe it is because these moves have been led by real money flows and less by speculation. Maybe it is because equities keep moving higher. Maybe it is because there are too many dollars around that have to be diversified by central banks.

Whatever it feels like the market should be overextended by now but doesn't act that way. We may have to wait until real money decides to take profit. In the interim expect corrections to be shallow unless some surprise news comes out or equities suddenly tank. This is IMHO
