yes, I've been reading and thinking about the impact of a lack of physical supply of both. To the extent that it is merely a SHORTAGE of physical supply, then that is bullish for the price of paper gold and silver -- spot trading, futures, etc. But if the supply issue is far more drastic than a mere SHORTAGE of physical supply and if the majority of paper gold is not at all backed by any physical gold, then at some point wouldn't that completely crash those markets, making the contracts worth about as much as any other paper? That's why I've been accumulating physical gold, all the while enjoying the paper gold market, but with one eye on the exits...

The real dichotomy is that there is less physical supply of silver available for trade than gold.

With silver suddenly starting to fly, after a weeks or months lasting gold rally - that usually means the rats are leaving the boat.

With next week also a lunar turn due and and UCT turn due ... and XAUEUR in parabolic behaviour already - anybody opposes the view that we be near a top in gold - 3rd wave finished, now 4th over possibly 2 weeks or so - and thereafter topping out 13xx - with a larger correction then.

Anybody?

jj- It came all the way back from where people were SHOUTING at me.
And now here we are again in a two way trade. It will be seen again. As mentioned early on, once 1.277 was first taken out, this market became a two way market...regardless of the bullets shot at me for suggesting such.
I mean hel1 man, I called for this level several figures higher, we got there then called for a two way market. I was shot at with pretty much every round conceivable but I have real armor.

The lesson I took away is that those who were disrespecting me were basing their attack on prior market action, not forward looking perspectives. People can disagree and a variety of opinions are great. Those who fight and attack others are another disgusting matter all together.

Cheers!

USDJPY appears to be showing a Rising Wedge chart formation bolstered by negative RSI divergence, a setup seemingly indicative of a bearish reversal. Prices put in an Evening Star candlestick pattern below the wedge’s upper boundary and pushed lower, testing support just above the 90.00 figure. Current positioning is not attractive to enter short from a risk/reward perspective and we will opt look for confirmation on a break below the wedge bottom to seek selling opportunities.

I believe many will explain away the bounce higher as a known event that was long overdue from "oversold" levels as if it was a no brainer- at least it was a no in their brainer until AFTER it happened.

DJ UPDATE: UK Clegg: Conservative Party Should Seek To Govern
Reply
U.K. Liberal Democrat Party leader Nick Clegg Friday handed the Conservative Party the first opportunity to form the new government, after the party won the most votes and seats, but not an overall majority, in the general election.

"It is now for the Conservative Party to prove that it is capable of seeking to govern in the national interest," Clegg said outside his party's headquarters in central London.

Clegg's statement had an immediate effect on sterling, with the pound moving back up to a somewhat stronger and more stable levels that it held earlier in the day.

The Conservative Party has to-date won 291 seats in Thursday's general election, compared to Labour's 251 seats, and the Liberal Democrats' 51 seats. With results for only 31 seats left to be declared, it now means a hung parliament is inevitable.

This means despite their disappointing election results, the Liberal Democrats have found themselves in the pivotal role of being kingmakers.

Earlier Friday, both Labour and the Conservatives made overtures toward a possible coalition with the Liberal Democrats.

Conservative education spokesman Michael Gove told Sky News that party leader David Cameron was "ready to talk to other parties" in order to form a Conservative-led government on the most stable foundations possible, while Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown has signaled that he will look to continue in power.

In the lead-up to the election, Clegg repeatedly said the party with the strongest mandate had the "moral right" to seek to govern or to reach out to other parties. The Liberal Democrat leader Friday said he was sticking to that promise.

"As I have said before, in a situation like this it is vital that all political parties and all political leaders act in the national interest and not out of narrow party political advantage," he said.

Moody's Comments Help Sterling
Reply
Sterling needs all the help it can get Friday and rating agency Moody's has given it some. Moody's says the UK election outcome is no direct threat to the UK's AAA rating, the differences between the 3 parties fiscal plans are rather minor and the absence of a one party majority need not weaken the UK's ability to stabilize its debt. GBP/USD adds some 30 ticks on the headlines and is now 2 cents off the day's one year low of 1.4477 while EUR/GBP is one penny weaker at 0.8707

Dear Beijing Laowen,im not joking at all...its possible but iknow very difficult so donot much expect better trade in range...happy trade..

The strong rebound from 110.69 suggests that a temporary low is in place and bias is turned neutral. We'd expect some more consolidations first but upside should be limited by 120.70 resistance and bring fall resumption. Below 114.60 minor support will flip intraday bias back to the downside for a retest on 110.69/121.10 support zone first.

In the bigger picture, current development is in line with the view that long term down trend from 169.96 is resuming. Sustained trading below 112.10 low will pave the way to 61.8% projection of 169.96 to 112.10 from 139.21 at 103.45 next. On the upside, break of 127.88 resistance is needed to be the first signal of reversal. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

Possiblity????

GBP/JPY's recovery from 130.0 etc

yes, just the correction higher expected for today ... see Cyclists projections posted earlier today.

As for the DAX - it should not creep much higher than 595x and already 590x should be tough.
Above 605x likely the bull is back.

It's finally a question of how much liquidity they pump into the markes again - and you can be assured that they scared to death right now.

Time wise the reversal south could start rolling over later in NY session and latest monday a few hours before NY session opens - if not we are out of the main trend channel south of the DAX.
Guess that is also what Cyclist meant with "how far it will go will determine the economic future of the Western world."
So next few trading days quite an oracle.
Off.

from IFR fwiw
08:08 EUR/JPY: Rumours of ECB Buying] London, May 7 (IFR) - There have been rumours in the market that ECB has been buying EUR/JPY in London this morning, but these are unconfirmed and would seem unlikely. The cross did spike from the 116.70 level through 117.50 however, but has come back to 117.10 since (now 117.30). Stops are touted at 118.10 and many traders see this level as the near term target and easily achievable. There has also been talk of a US investment bank lifting EUR 1bln EUR/USD which could have been behind the EUR/JPY spike. Another rumour doing the rounds is that the ECB will stage a conference call with 47 EU banks later today to discuss money markets and this talk is also helping to prop the EUR somewhat. USD/JPY opened London around 92.25, and is now at 92.10 after an early slip to 91.52 where it ran in to some bidding interest.

Vienna GD 08:15 GMT May 7, 2010
Possiblity????

rana ... 'm not a fan of targets - yesterdays drop of the DOW was just another example. Possibly more efficient a trailing stop - and to let mr. market do the job.

Also I always follow the yen - but having the impression you are much closer to the eye of the hurricane.
So better follow your own intuition.

Last not least hadn't ad the time yet to dig deep into TA to evaluate targets, as I'm busy on other fronts atm. Though 128-132 for GBPJPY sound reasonable. As for USDJPY - much more difficult, with 89 (BOJ iron wall, possibly even higher now?) possibly a retest. Anything below would be a surprise - hence trailing stops.

But again - I'm on the other side of the planet, with no yen ties - so trust YOUR instincts, which worked very well - and hence stick to it - and get me out of your mind! That's no offence at all - it is just a VERY friendly advise for your own financial health. You are the scout here in yen land - it's not me.

Some sort of reversal and some nastier whipsaws next week, in between Tuesday and Friday sounds good to me. There sits an UCT and lunar cycle turn. Though not that sure which markets will be affected the most. Usually indices are a leading force, with yields and yen closely following. Dollar, euro and gold are a different story and having a life of their own atm.

GBP/JPY's recovery from 130.00 suggests that a temporary low is in place and we'd expect some more sideway trading first. Nevertheless, upside should be limited by 139.36 support turned resistance and bring fall resumption. The break of 132.13 support indicates that whole decline from 163.05 has resumed. Below 130.00 will target 118.81 low next.

In the bigger picture, the break of 132.13 support clears out the outlook. Medium term rebound from 118.81, as correction to long term down trend from 2007 high of 251.09, has completed at 163.05 already. Fall from 163.05 is tentatively treated as resumption of such long term down trend and should target a new low below 118.81. On the upside, break of 145.94 resistance is needed to invalidate this view. Otherwise, outlook will remain bearish.

Gold Says Bye Bye Brown With Record GBP-Based High
Reply
While Labour party leader Gordon Brown's legacy as U.K. prime minister may be up for debate, there's no doubt he will be remembered as the world's worst gold trader after he dumped 400 tons of U.K. reserves at the bottom of the market. Brown sold the gold for less than GBP200/oz between 1999 and 2002, compared with today's record high of GBP822, ironically in favor of euro-denominated bonds as he sought diversification for U.K. reserves. Maybe he was just unlucky, but he telegraphed the sales in advance, forcing the price lower, rather unusual behavior in the competitive world of commodities. Gold in sterling terms currently at GBP818/oz, flat from the NY close as the U.K. contemplates a hung parliament with the Conservative party in the box seat to form a coalition government.

==> obviously BOJ already supporting markets. At least that is what I read from that article. Possibly that led already to yesterdays bounce.

no fear my friend ... deep in usdjpy shorts - and also in several jpy-cross shorts again (like GBPJPY).
As yen mirrors indices - this fits with Cyclists expectation that DOW will retest yesterdays lows today or early next week. This bearish sentiment also fits with what I see in the charts (again GBPJPY i.e.) especially the longerterm ones.

hope this helps (;-)

Vienna GD 06:44 GMT May 7, 2010
Do the reverse on the right time

Cyclists comments:
"We are going to see a retest soon,I don't believe that somebody made an error in the execution .The Qs is the one to short as you always want to short in the strongest currency.Uncertainty in Europe will create a very
schizophrenic market.Bonds have been rising and will do so until June. After that the commodities will take over from the financials and inflation will become par for the course. The Euro hit exactly 1.25 before it recovered somewhat. My expectations are that we see a strong bounce tomorrow on the heels of Germans parlamentairy ratification for their part of the bailout.
However das Volk from Westphalia will boot the CDU out and create a whipsaw effect on the Friday vote.Expecting to see this instability create another drop, how far it will go will determine the economic future of the Western world.
Chart wise we can see short term the left shoulder and the head being completed where the neck is at 9800 .We could see a retest and a recovery possibly to 10700 sometimes this summer This will complete also the bigger or monthly head and shoulder formation sometimes at the end of August/September.
Currencies are now in full gallop in a new round of competitive devaluations The answer is gold in physical form ,not stocks.Governments in their wisdom will seek out profitable enterprises to tax in order to shore up their finances."

GD: just for your better understanding - predicted 1.25 already many many moons earlier. Advised all his european friends to sell euros for gold - already last fall. I asked him whether to go for a latte or to start hedging my XAUEUR - he meant I should go for a long latte .. hehe

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A spine-chilling slide of nearly 1,000 points in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, its biggest intraday points drop ever, led to heightened calls for a crackdown on computer-driven high-frequency trading.

The slide, which in one 10-minute stretch knocked the index down nearly 700 points, may have been triggered by a trading error. Major stock indexes eventually recovered from their 9 percent drops to close down a little more than 3 percent.

But the follow-through selling that pushed stocks of some highly regarded companies into tailspins exacerbated concerns that regulators can quickly lose control of the markets in a world of algorithmic trading.

High-speed trading, which uses sophisticated computer algorithms based on specific scenarios to automate transactions at speeds in the millionths of a second, now accounts for about 60 percent of U.S. equity volume.

ooh la la, we made big profit.

DJ Australia's Swan: RBA Statement Timely Reminder Of Economic Stability
Reply
CANBERRA Australia's Treasurer Wayne Swan said Friday the Reserve Bank of Australia's May statement on monetary policy is a "timely reminder" of the relative stability of the domestic economy, even as a fresh wave of risk aversion gripped markets overnight on fears Europe's sovereign debt crisis could spread.

Australia's economy is in a position of "far greater strength" than many other advanced economies, the treasurer told reporters. He did note, however, that growth in some parts of the economy, such as the resource sector, is far outpacing others, such as non-residential building and the small business sector.

The RBA earlier Friday revised up its forecasts for inflation and economic growth, signaling that more interest rate increases will be needed to temper a surge in activity fueled by a hefty commodity price upswing and limited spare capacity.

Inflation is likely to remain at or above the upper end of the RBA's 2%-to-3% target band over the central bank's forecast horizon through 2012, it said.

The RBA expects economic growth to accelerate to 4.0% through the year to December 2012, well above the 3.0%-to-3.25% band that economists generally agree it is currently.

TOKYO (Dow Jones)--Japan's top government spokesman said Friday the country's authorities will closely monitor the yen's recent rise to determine whether they need to take "appropriate action."

The remarks from Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirofumi Hirano came after the dollar tumbled Thursday to Y87.95, the lowest since Y87.73 on Dec. 10, amid worries over Greece's debt turmoil and sharp drops in U.S. stock markets. The U.S. currency stood at Y91.73 around 1027 GMT.

"There is concern that there could be an impact" on Japan's economy from the yen's recent gains, Hirano said at a news conference after a regular Cabinet meeting. "The Japanese government will closely monitor developments to determine whether we have to take appropriate action."

Euro plunges on lingering Greek contagion fears and 9% slump in U.S. stocks

Euro extended its recent weakness and fell across the board on continuing contagion fears after ECB's Trichet failed to ease investor's worries on the Greek debt crisis and he didn't take fresh measures to help stem the debt crisis. A sharp and sudden selloff in US stocks also sparked off more risk aversion and pushed euro lower.

Although the single currency rebounded to 1.2857 in Thursday's Asian morning on short-covering, the pair tumbled after the European Central Bank kept its main interest rate on hold at a record low of 1.0% as expected for the twelfth month. Euro remained under pressure throughout the day and eventually hit an intra-day low of 1.2510 in NY afternoon on weakness of the U.S. stocks. The single currency was also pressured by Trichet's comments that the bank didn’t discuss government bond purchases which some investors had hoped for. Earlier, Germany's Merkel said eurozone's tensions were being exaggerated by markets and described speculators as their 'adversaries'.

The pound tumbled again on Thursday following its fall on Wednesday, dropping below $1.5000 due to worries that U.K.’s election would produce a hung parliament, which would be a negative outcome for the government to reduce the nation’s record budget deficit. Four polls showed David Cameron’s Conservatives would win the most seats, but that would not be enough for a straight majority. Despite cable's brief rebound to 1.5149 in Thursday's Asian morning, the pair swiftly fell from there and later nose-dived below 1.5000 and support 1.4781 to an intra-day low of 1.4712 before rebounding. In other news, results of the election would not be known until Friday afternoon in London while the exit polls showed the Conservatives would take the most seats but would miss the overall majority.

Reply
The UK may be heading towards a hung parliament, according to the first exit poll, with the opposition Conservative government, also known as the Tories, forming the biggest party but not sufficiently large to gain an overall majority. However, spreadbettor Sporting Index is now quoting a spread on Conservative seats of 328-333, suggesting an overall majority. This is up from a spread of around 321-326 before the polls closed.

BNY Mellon's Simon Derrick says if such a swing was replicated nationally it would give the Conservative party an overall majority in the new Parliament. GBP/USD now trades at the day's high of 1.4920, EUR/GBP the day's low around 0.8450
