I believe gold will reach a new high between $1,300-$1,500 during 2010 and this is my target.
About Silver I Agree with you - Silver will outperform gold - targeting $22-25 during 2010.
.. and gold and silver have large fluctuations, so my stops are 5-7% of current prices. Large space for price fluctuations, but I have a pretty good input prices from last year ...

The whole idea that ECB will intervene in the bond and stock markets keeping on buying everything they like, means more Euros in the Mkt.

The first thing then will be to sell those Euro$ for whatever is safer.
Ok. So what ECB then did. They will have to buy those Euro too?

The Street:How Much More For Fannie, Freddie?
Reply
That is the message from both mortgage giants, Fannie Mae (FNM) and Freddie Mac (FRE), which have reported their first-quarter financial results in the past week. With the reports come yet further requests for funding from the Treasury Department. Fannie is asking for $8.4 billion, while Freddie has its hand out for $10.6 billion.
Have either of the agencies made any recent progress in regaining their financial footing? It depends on how you define progress. In the first quarter of this year, Fannie reported a net loss of $11.5 billion, less than its $15.2 billion loss in the previous quarter. That's a pretty steady trajectory, down from $23.2 billion a year ago. All told, Fannie had drawn $75.2 billion from Treasury to cover its deficits, as of Dec. 31.

DJ Getting Close To Time To Sell Dollar Index - Technician
Reply
While US Dollar Index remains in a solid technical position, according to Auerbach Grayson technician Richard Ross, resistance looms large. DXY recently at 84.47, up from overnight low of 84.14, with Ross noting resistance sits strongly at 86, any more gains possibly leading to an over-extended index displaying early signs of a reversal. "I am a reluctant seller of the Dollar Index and concede that a climactic move to 86 may occur before trend reaches exhaustion," says Ross

FL AG 22:04 / IF that $75,000 was really $75,000 and had you closed your positions with that much in your account and asked for a draft, I am near certain that your dealer - who-ever it is - would have done every (I mean every) trick in their book to avoid sending a cheque for that amount.
-
re what should I do: u should realize that 150% by any standard of measure is beating vast majority of professional money managers by a factor of at least 10 (on a yearly basis).
More importantly you should probably re-read the fine print in your contract with your dealer about margin calls and your potential for owing a boatload. In fact I would want to make sure that any debt you could potentially incur with your dealer could not cascade and extend into a multi-generational debt.

2)Today JPM reported the same. MS reported 4 losing days.

This week still faces two more US debt auctions- 10s tomorrow, 30's on Thurs. Wouldn't it be great to sell the 10's at 3.5% or lower!, the 30's at 4.4 or better.

Could happen with a screaming higher Stock Market and a dropping USD? Could this happen in a Free Market?

Judging from the charts, it looks like it's still possible to catch a potential EUR/USD uptrend. There was lots of action between 1.2667 and 1.2750, but price didn't go higher. It would appear that the next point of activity would be 1.2600.

So...if the bounce is your thing, then consider buying as close to 1.2600 as you can. Take profits quickly though, and expect lots of attempts to bring price below that level.

French Market Chief: UK Is On Its Own If Markets Turn On Pound
Reply
PARIS (AFP)--The U.K. may find itself on its own if it comes under pressure from the markets, France's chief financial regulator warned Tuesday, after London refused to join Europe's trillion-dollar rescue package.

The U.K. isn't part of the eurozone single currency bloc and refused to help pay for the EUR750 billion package put together this week by its European Union partners to shore up debt-ridden economies like Greece.

"The British will certainly find themselves targeted, given the political difficulties they have," said Jean-Pierre Jouyet, head of France's AMF market regulator, as U.K. political parties struggled in London to negotiate a coalition.

Speaking on Europe 1 radio, the French official said that by standing outside the European rescue package, the U.K. had left itself alone to face a possible onslaught by currency traders on the pound.

"If you don't want to show solidarity with the eurozone, wait and see what happens outside it," Jouyet said.

He warned there was now what he sees as a "three-speed Europe" comprising "the Europe of the euro, the Europe of those countries that understand the euro such as Sweden and Poland, and the British."

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--European banks are paying higher rates to place securities in the U.S. commercial paper market, a sign that despite the European Union's hefty rescue package, investors remain cautious.
This market, which is a major source of short-term funding for many European banks, was hit by fears last week that turmoil in euro-zone debt markets could spread to European banks, particularly those from fiscally strapped countries such as Spain and Portugal.
That led the highly conservative investors who buy commercial paper--mainly money market funds--to pull back on lending to some European banks; they also cut back on lending for longer periods to limit their risk. The funds' stance has been exacerbated by a rule change coming into effect at the end of May that limits the average maturities they can hold in their portfolios.
Tuesday, activity in the bank sector was "muted," said Chris Conetta, managing director and head of global short-term credit trading at Barclays Capital. "We are trading paper for European banks but it is primarily shorter-dated paper," referring to paper maturing in 30 days or less.
European bank borrowings make up about 36% of the secured and unsecured commercial paper market, or about $400 billion, according to Barclays Capital.
Investors are showing a marked preference for securities sold by Canadian, Australian and New Zealand banks--banks from nations that avoided the global credit crunch and have strong fiscal positions. Their funding costs are on average about 5 basis points below those of the European banks in the one-month to three-month maturities, Conetta said.
Lending rates on double-A rated financial paper stood at 0.19% for overnight paper on Tuesday, according to data from the Federal Reserve. For 30-day paper, that figure is 0.23%.
The higher rates charged to European banks are an indication of counterparty concerns; another sign comes from the interbank lending markets, where the benchmark three-month London interbank offered rate for dollars edged up again Tuesday.
Dollar Libor was fixed at 0.42281% Tuesday, up from 0.42125% at the prior fixing. The EU's rescue efforts had caused Libor to fall Monday for the first time in over a month.
Money market funds' credit worries are being exacerbated by a rule change by the Securities and Exchange Commission that goes into effect on May 28, which will require money market funds to shorten the average maturity of the assets they hold to increase their ability to meet redemption demands in times of crises. Thirty percent of the funds' assets must be held in securities that mature in seven days or less.
That has led to an overall reduction in longer-dated commercial paper: Outstanding volume of double-A rated financial paper maturing in 81 days or more has fallen from $420 billion last month to $384 billion in May, according to Federal Reserve data. Paper maturing in one to four days, by contrast, has increased from $8.6 billion in April to $9.13 billion in May.
Still, demand for dollars from banks in Europe is nowhere near the levels seen at the height of the credit crunch in 2008. The three major European central banks--the Bank of England, Swiss National Bank and the European Central Bank--held dollar auctions Tuesday, but only the ECB got any bids. It awarded $9.2 billion in total to seven banks, using the swap line reinstated with the Federal Reserve over the weekend.

Data Give China Political Opportunity On Yuan Move
Reply
This week's data from China -- further recovery in exports and rising inflation -- provide Chinese policymakers with a political opportunity to move on the exchange rate within the next few days, say RBC market strategists. The next US-China Strategic Dialogue will be held in Beijing on May 24-25th, and if yuan is still pegged at 6.83 against the dollar when these meetings take place, the issue of the exchange rate will overshadow the entire event and threaten to damage bilateral relations, the strategists say. "If Beijing acts now to end the USD-peg, it would neutralize the issue, and this week's data give the Chinese leadership the ability to portray such a move as a response to domestic economic conditions and NOT international pressure, which has been conveniently muted in recent weeks," they say.

often markets prefer to travel than arrive...cable made 2 big figures on the back of the con-lib announcement and the brown resignation which was also made known earlier and until recently the cross was holding very well with very little profit taking, so some weakness can't be too surprising. There will probably be some announcements of a crude one line nature late this evening UK time once the respective leaders have it out with their MPs as to what eah side wants and where the compromises will be.

After crossing the bearish trend line inside the upward trend channel, the NZD/USD pulled back from its horizontal resistance line around 0.7310. It was the markets' fifth touch with the lower line of the channel before it recovered back to its current price. If the market breaks the horizontal resistance around 0.7310, we might see further gains. Otherwise, it might continue its bullish zigzag phase inside the bullish channel.

Pete, would have thought that, and the recently announced tory lib-dem is now in the price, market probably now looking to what comes out of the following few press conferences/announcements as to what and how they propose to reduce debt. There have been a lot of promises from all sides, we now wait for some real action. In my view an early VAT hike is bad for you and me, but once the dust settles would be viewed as a positive for the pound. Let's face it, we are all going to go about the daily shopping, filling up the car etc whether VAT is 17.5 or 20%. We don't have any choice. IMO if Western Europe is going to go back into recession, it won't be measures like this that trigger it, that was done a long time ago when the debt spiral was allowed to get out of control.

WRAPUP 2-US SEC still searching for market plunge cause

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON, May 11 (Reuters) - The top U.S. securities regulator said no single event had been found to explain Thursday's mysterious market plunge but the events were unacceptable and additional safeguards were coming.

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro said it would take time to pinpoint the cause but reiterated an agreement with major exchanges to strengthen trading curbs in response to large market moves.

In prepared testimony for a congressional hearing later on Tuesday, Schapiro said SEC staff were now on site at all major markets to monitor trading conditions.

"The markets failed many investors on May 6, and I am committed to finding effective solutions in the very near term," she said in written testimony to the House Subcommittee on Capital Markets.

Europe banks may see 50-75 bln eur losses from Greece

FRANKFURT, May 11 (Reuters) - Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE) said European banks could face losses of between 50 billion euros ($63.5 billion) and 75 billion euros if the debt crisis in Greece continues to escalate and banks are forced to take a "haircut" on Greek sovereign debt.

Financials

Germany's flagship lender has limited primary exposure to Greece, but faces "potential risk of tertiary market impact due to contagion," thanks to exposure to other vulnerable countries such as Spain, and Italy, Deutsche Bank said at a presentation on Tuesday.

Deutsche Bank said it has "negligible" exposure to Greek debt. If the spreads on credit default swaps tied to Greek debt widen significantly, it could lead to losses on illiquid positions held by Deutsche Bank, according to the presentation made by deputy chief risk officer Stuart Lewis.

As a first step, holders of Greek sovereign debt may be forced to take a "haircut" on the debt, which could then result in losses of between 50 billion to 75 billion euros for European banks, the presentation shows

The focus in on sterling and why it is higher (see below). EUR/GBP (lower) is weighing on eur/usd. GBP/JPY is firmer as well. As posted on GVI Forex

Options Trade

A $7.5 million trade in bearish options by Universa Investments LP, a Santa Monica, California-based hedge fund advised by Nassim Taleb, may have triggered selling that exacerbated the plunge, the Wall Street Journal reported. Calls and e-mails to Taleb and Universa President Mark Spitznagel seeking comment weren’t immediately returned.

“Given that a selloff was happening and a big trade came in, and people would have needed to sell futures to hedge, it could have exacerbated the situation,” said Joe Kinahan, chief derivatives strategist at TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. in Chicago and a former S&P 500 options trader on the CBOE floor. “I don’t know if one trade is going to take the market down.”

U.S. stocks rallied today after European policy makers announced a loan package of almost $1 trillion. The S&P 500 gained 4.4 percent to 1,159.73 at 4:07 p.m.

A few thoughts:

I feel the EU wants the EUR lower, but it does not want a "disorderly" decline. Thus a sudden large decline in EURUSD raises the risk of forex intervention, but a slow and steady decline does not.

A weak EURUSD tends to drag equity prices lower and th U.S. and Europe will not like that.

Makes for uncertain trade.

Did a Big Bet Help Trigger 'Black Swan' Stock Swoon?
By SCOTT PATTERSON And TOM LAURICELLA
Shortly after 2:15 p.m. Eastern time last Thursday, hedge fund Universa Investments LP placed a big bet in the Chicago options trading pits that stocks would continue their sharp declines.

On any other day, this $7.5 million trade for 50,000 options contracts might have briefly hurt stock prices, though not caused much of a ripple. But coming on a day when all varieties of financial markets were deeply unsettled, the trade may have played a key role in the stock-market collapse just 20 minutes later.

The trade by Universa, a hedge fund advised by Nassim Taleb, author of "Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable," led traders on the other side of the transaction—including Barclays Capital, the brokerage arm of British bank Barclays PLC—to do their own selling to offset some of the risk, according to traders in Chicago.

Then, as the market fell, those declines are likely to have forced even more "hedging" sales, creating a tsunami of pressure that spread to nearly all parts of the market.

The tidal wave of selling fed into a market already on edge about the economy in Europe. As the selling spread, a blast of orders appears to have jarred the flow of data going into brokerage firms, such as Barclays Capital, according to people familiar with the matter.

With Cleggs side pushing for electrol reform he would have a lot to lose by allowing yet another unelected prime minister to be pushed through. As that's what it would be, Labour would have their leadership election and the country would have in power someone that no one voted in to office. He said himself anyone coming third in the popular vote can't be prime minister so that rules himself out, so the above would be the only option in such an arrangement.

IMF Russia Rep: Ruble Currently In Line With Fundamentals

The forex markets love affair with the EUR750Bln EU/IMF rescue package lasted less than 24 hours with the single currency hammered overnight. Europe picks up EUR/USD around 1.27, some 4 cents off Monday's 1.3095 high on the realization that Europe faces an extended period of slow grow and low interest rates. Sterling also dropped like a stone after PM Brown said he would step aside, opening the possibility of a Labour/Lib Dem pact and not the favored Conservative/Lib Dem ticket that the market had priced in.

[CABLE] is already down the best part of half a cent in Europe's opening exchanges to a new low for the day of 1.4765. A fibo is positioned at 1.4760/65 (50% of 1.4475/1.5054 move) so expect stops on a break below. They look very vulnerable. The market hates uncertainty, but that is what we are left with after Clegg de-camped and begun talks with Labour. It seems a carrot has been thrown his way not only in the shape of electoral reform, but also the fact that Brown will resign too. It seems now that the latter had been a stumbling block before. Clearly, FX participants got too enthusiastic yest over a perceived Con/Lib Dem deal, but that is the favoured alliance for the City it seems. That could yet ultimately pan out, but the days and perhaps weeks in between could prove costly for Gbp. A sub-1.4750/60 move could open up sub-1.47 very near-term.

Pound plunges against the dollar as markets express horror at Lib-Lab coalition talks
Reply
Financial markets reacted with horror yesterday at the prospect of a Labour coalition with the Liberal Democrats and other minor parties.
The pound - which had initially rallied in the hope of deal between the Tories and Lib Dems - started to dip at the moment Gordon Brown began to speak yesterday afternoon.
One City expert described the possibility of a 'rainbow' coalition as 'absolutely terrifying'. Commentators fear such a coalition would fail to tackle Britain's £163billion deficit.

www.brandshoesvip.com As its name indicates, brandshoesvip.com provides you a variety of shoes with all the different brands available. If boys, you still don’t know a good place to shop shoes, I think you really should come to the web to have a good look at it.

Here, you can find all the sports shoes of different brands. Just click to see what it offers to you, you will find all the shoes here are fashionable and are of good qualify. What's more, the price of the shoes I think can surely be accepted by you, because it is just reasonable and much cheaper than you buy in real shops. I recommend you to have a good look at all the shoes before you decide to buy. If you like a specific brand, such as Jordan, you can click into and choose from the many different styles and colors of each pair of shoes. Expect for the brand of Jordan, you can also find such brands as Nike, Supra, Reebok, Adidas and so on. You can choose them as you wish. I think this is a really good place for you to buy shoes. Boys usually like shoes with a good brand. Here in the web can just make all the boys satisfied.

Except for so many choices for shoes here, brandshoesvip.com also sells clothes in different sports brand. Take the brand ‘Gucci’ for example, after you click into, you’ll find there are T-shirts, Jackets, Jeans, Shorts, Sweaters and other accessories that boys welcome. So it’s really good for you.

People like sports very much, so you are really in need of good shoes. Clothes and accessories are less important for them compared to a good pair of shoes. When you are playing basketball, a good pair of shoes usually can make the players play much better. Don’t you think so? So when your team is competing with another team, please make sure all your team members are wearing good shoes.

I think this web must be welcomed by you. So it’s really quick for you to buy something, especially shoes, which are so important in their daily life. At last, I want to say just enjoy the convenience of shopping your desired shoes right on brandshoesvip.com.

The International Monetary Fund is not in aid talks with any euro-zone country and has adequate funding to help member countries who may need financial assistance, a senior IMF official said on Monday.

IMF First Deputy Managing Director John Lipsky told reporters that a new European stabilization mechanism, which would be supported by the IMF, gives the IMF an "important and crucial role" in resolving economic problems such as Greece.

He said the IMF had not earmarked funds for the new mechanism and would consider aid on a case-by-case basis if asked by a country.

Budget to make pitch for foreign investors
Reply
Australia’s share of global investment is expected to rise if the government announces a further relaxation in the barriers for offshore investors when the federal budget is released this evening. Sources close to the government said it will likely announce new measures aimed at increasing the flow of foreign investment into Australia’s $1 trillion managed fund sector, growing the industry and raising the country’s profile as a global investment hub.

Australia’s funds industry had $1.1 trillion in assets under management at September 2009, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, but less than 5 per cent of them were sourced from overseas investors.

Yuan Likely To Strengthen By End Of 2Q - Calyon
Reply
Calyon says CNY likely to strengthen vs USD by end of 2Q; house notes PBOC's 1Q monetary policy report says it will manage CNY "with reference to a basket of currencies", whereas it commented to "keep the yuan stable" in 4Q09 monetary policy report. "This could mean the central bank judges that it is about the time to exit from the exceptional measure (a stable yuan) adopted during the credit crisis," house says. USD/CNY last at 6.8281 vs 6.8265 late yesterday

Gold is not a leading indcator of anything. It is just an indicator of volatility ahead when it piles 50-100 dollars in a straight line with minor pullbacks and then it drops like a stone. Despite what all nonsense in the market about physical demand being very high....the actual truth is far from it...gold trading in todays market is purely futures trading with no substance to justify the 1200 dollar market price. How the fck can any idiot suggest to go back to the gold standard given modern market volatility is beyond me..those holding physical gold will eventually enjoy some gains when they are drinking food through a straw...In the long term its a good investment for their grandkids to liquidate and buy golf clubs , in the short term physical golds only use is as a door stopper....And gold futures current price s just a by product of a very volatile market...

Euro pares its intra-day gain despite EU/IMF 700 billion euro rescue package

The single currency initially rallied across the board as European Union finance ministers, central bankers and IMF hammered out a 700 billion euros emergency package to stabilize the currency and to prevent Greece's debt crisis from spreading to other eurozone countries. In addition, euro zone central banks also started buying government and corporate bonds while the US Federal Reserve restarted currency swap lines with ECB. These measures had boosted risk appetite of investors. While European equities rallied by more than 4% and Dow Jone index ended the day up by 3.9% but euro pared most of its gains against US dollar later on worries of the implementation of the rescue plan.

Euro opened higher in NZ on Monday and jumped to 1.2950 on active short-covering after weekend news of a EU/IMF rescue package for the euro zone countries. Although euro staged a brief pullback later, renewed buying lifted price to an intra-day high of 1.3095. However, the single currency retreated sharply from there and fell to as low as 1.2759 in NY afternoon. In other news, Moody's warned that downgrade on Portugal to AA3 and Greece to below investment grade would be possible.

The British pound also opened higher in tandem with euro in NZ as weekend news of coalition between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats to become U.K. new government gave support to sterling. Cable then hit an intra-day high of 1.5054 in NY morning. However, it retreated sharply from there and pared its gains against US dollar on UK's PM Gordon Brown's comments that he would step aside later and the Liberal Democrats' potential talks with the Labour party. In other news, The Bank of England kept interest rates unchanged at 0.5% as expected and made no change to its 200 billion pounds asset purchase target.

Economic data to be released on Tuesday include: U.K. BRC retail sales , Germany CPI final , U.K. Industrial production and U.S. Consumer confidence.
