If you're new and you just start FX trading it's best to spend some time with the demo account and paper trading. ~ 6 months or more ... anyway GBP/JPY is probably one of the toughest trading pairs with large oscillations, very risky if you do not know how to handle it ... money management is the first and most basic rule ... and so on. ... anyway good luck :) ...

Time To Turn AUD Bullish - BNPP
It's time to turn AUD bullish again says BNP Paribas. The bank cites robust domestic demand and lean spare capacity combined with completely priced-out rate hikes which is not justified, BNP maintains its call for rates to hit 5.75%. Downside risks come from the Australian government's super-tax on commodity producers but even this may play in AUD's favors as any decline in investment in mining capacity may push commodity prices higher. BNP says its favors long AUD/EUR, which currently trades at 0.6636.

Eur/$, an important bottom ?
In eur/$, have had a longer term bearish bias since last Nov (switched on Nov 2nd at 1.4825), but lots of bigger picture positives are appearing. They include that the market is oversold since the sharp declines from last Nov, is currently testing longer term support at 1.2100/50 (50% retracement from the Oct 2000 low at .8230), sentiment has turned broadly bearish (contrary indicator), and appears be bottoming based on the shorter term chart This in turn suggests that scope is rising sharply for at least a 6-7 big figure bounce, and potentially much more. Note too that the reversal (if it does indeed occur), may be sharp. Currently, just see too must risk in maintaining the longer term, negative bias (switched on Nov 2nd 1.4825) and would switch to neutral here (currently at 1.2260 for a 17% gain). Remember, maintaining a good overall/risk reward is key – not trying to pick the exact top or bottom and in this case, just too much risk in staying in the bigger picture short. Note that there is some potential for at least 2-3 months of gains (a potential bigger picture opportunity), but just not enough confidence to switch to the long side here.

RBA Will Tighten Twice By Year End - ANZ
Reply
We still expect the RBA to raise its cash rate again before year-end," say ANZ strategists. Say bank will stay on hold next month but market bets for 10 bps of easing by year end are wide of the mark. Say inflation remains key. Stay Bullish AUD On China - ANZ
Reply
"So long as we are optimists on China, we will be bullish on AUD and NZD," say ANZ strategists. ANZ says it isn't yet convinced cyclical bull market is over, more likely a pause in risk assets before a fresh rally later in year. Expects commodity prices to gain next year. "While we are cognizant of downside risks in the short-term which could fundamentally alter our expectations for the world economy, our medium-term economic view has only been tweaked following recent events." Forecasts AUD/USD to reach 0.9000 by year-end, 0.9400 mid next year; latest 0.8286.

German MOF Wants Ban On Euro Derivatives Not Meant For Hedging

Every child knows you dont even need to move funds out of the country (which may already be a problem if it is more than €10,000) and sell DAX futures and buy the stocks you dont want to short - voilà the naked short position. But who would not move funds out of the country if pisacked like that? By flying under the radar and transfering less than €10,000 at a time. Kind of justice for the little guys.

German MOF Wants Ban On Euro Derivatives Not Meant For Hedging
Reply
Germany's Finance Ministry Tuesday proposed extending a ban on some "naked" short selling to cover all stocks and euro currency derivatives not intended for hedging.
The proposals were outlined by the ministry in a draft bill, seen by Dow Jones Newswires, that will be discussed by the German cabinet next week. They also include a new "transparency system" for short selling.
Naked short selling involves the sale of an asset that isn't owned by the seller and isn't borrowed to cover the position while it is held. Some politicians have claimed the activity can be used to manipulate markets because the amount of naked short selling can dwarf sales of the underlying assets.
The proposals outlined Tuesday are meant to be reviewed by German business associations before Chancellor Angela Merkel's cabinet considers them next week.

IMF sees global markets stress easing
Reply
THE fiscal crisis in the European Union is not a threat to the economic bloc's common currency, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund said today. Speaking at an event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Mr Dominique Strauss-Kahn said: "There is no threat to the euro system. I am confident in the ability of the Greek government and the Greek people to meet austerity goals." Global financial markets have been under siege since April, when the fiscal crisis in debt-laden Greece deepened and sparked concerns about similar issues in Spain and Portugal. The euro currency has plummeted in value against the US dollar because of a lack of confidence in the fiscal policies of many EU member countries. The EU and IMF arranged a nearly €750 billion ($1.12 trillion) package to ease debt troubles in the economic bloc and restore investor confidence. Strauss-Kahn downplayed turmoil in Spanish financial markets this week following the seizure of assets in Spanish savings bank CajaSur by Spain's central bank. Mr Strauss-Kahn said the seizure was part of a necessary financial system restructuring in Spain, but he noted that CajaSur was a comparatively small institution.
"I don't see this as a major problem," he said. Regarding global financial market volatility, Mr Strauss-Kahn said: "I think the short-term stress is being reduced." The IMF managing director also expressed confidence that the volatility will continue to ease throughout 2010.

Far East markets were upset about what was perceived to be a new North Korean threat against the South. These worries reinforced liquidity concerns about Europe. The latest concern in Europe was about the Spanish Savings bank system and its exposure to the housing crash.

Hmm... Spot consequences of gamma positioning:

Market short gamma (i.e. short options) = big, exaggerated moves. This is b/c dealers must buy spot as it goes higher, and sell as spot goes lower.

Market long gamma (i.e. long options) = range bound conditions, b/c as spot goes lower, dealers need to buy and as it goes higher, we sell.

Take everything with a grain of salt. For every ctpy short gamma, one is long. The difference being that not everybody spot hedges. We can usually count on the market makers to spot hedge, but you never know what ctpy's are doing. And of course, it's a big market so unless a client is intentionally setting all the banks up the same way, it's difficult to determine who's really positioned which way.

Tok JT 19:28 GMT May 25, 2010
USD/JPY

Im not the right person to explain this. Please ask Master Jay... But I can tell you is, many option players are long option which means they are long gamma. I am one of those.

Tok JT 19:20 GMT May 25, 2010

Tommy, Market is gamma long. Unless the Stock markets closed in positive, supply will be dominating above 90 Yen. bidding above 90 is not a good idea in my humble opinion.

The royal pair closed negatively yesterday below the initial support levels-turned into resistance at 0.8605-. Consequently, it might retest the broken downtrend line of the descending channel before resuming the bullishness, which is based on the suggested double bottom formation. We are not sure that the above mentioned trend line could assist the pair to consolidate once more as the indicators shows consecutive negative signs. Thus, we need more confirmation and therefore our outlook will be neutral until we see a stable move above 0.8605 zones.
The trading range for today is among the key support at 0.8420 and key resistance now at 0.8720

london GB ... to go against the prevailing trend + not using stops in this environment + adding to losing positions + in the most volatile fx pair available - is just as insane as it can get.
Because these are the most important "not to do's" for a trader. Typical "ego frontrunning".

I see the yen peaking in 3rd week of june. That will be a major high for da yen (and bonds in general) for a long time. Good chance for an exhaustion move nearby the peak.
So in my book more fun for yen-cross shorts and usdjpy shorts ahead. With some typical yen whipsaws in the meantime.
Could be wrong of course - so DYOD

Theorist....
how do you discern where the capital flows?

10/30y USTs are making new highs so I'd assume capital is generally flowing into bonds..

one thing is Gold made a Key Reversal on Weeklies but overall trend with higher Lows is still intact.. so to me it seems there is a puzzle if capital will choose Gold or Bonds for the next crisis - and since it is a Debt crisis - then Gold is a better choice since it is not an IOU paper, but then again Governments are now substituting the 'free market' so it is still conundrum.

Europe Theorist 11:47 GMT May 25, 2010

London Chris..

The SNB will only intervene when they see a massive flow of capital from Germany, Benelux and some Meds from EUR to CHF ... otherwise they will not jump in to murky waters... right now capital flows into bunds so I don't expect SNB in the mkt..

The S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices

The S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices measure the residential housing market. This index family consists of 20 regional indices and two composite indices as aggregates of the regions. The S&P/Case-Shiller U.S. National Home Price Index is a broader composite of single-family home price indices for the nine U.S. Census divisions and is calculated quarterly.

This is yet another measure of the housing industry in the U.S. It is watched because of its accuracy, but the data tend to be too old to impact the markets much.

About large moves

try again
Large moves are rarely the actions of pikers
Most large moves are by giant hedgers who see much further moves ahead.
Some large moves come at end of monstrous moves and squeeze the last shorts to death (hunts in 1980, Sorros in the Yen in 1995 where he was short some 8000 contracts at 100 before the yen ran to 125 --on the future side-- he admitted to have lost over one billion dollar-- all the money he made in the Dm-BP coup)

Most of these moves are by MAMMOTHS. Anyone who steps in front of them-- is liable to get CRASHED!

Some conflicts have a stronger impact on the markets.
And doesn't matter what causes them.
I think that for few days, keeping your money away from the far east is not a bad idea at all.

Oil fell a lot and has the capacity to rebound strong, so the Cad$
can be interesting, and at the moment it is facing some strong resistance. So maybe it is for a bounce.

Yesterday 225 pips range more or less. And that for a Monday. So keep an eye on the 200 range today. Sharp bounce will wipe out those who take advices from others to short, 'cause the others keep telling short at the end of daily ranges, so that stops will be hit. In this market it still goes either way. Direction is clear 145 tops 122 low makes a range of 2300 pips. Several patterns are here. I repeat for the zillionst time, nobody knows the direction daily, only Richard. If Richard decides to do a runner, the good looking lady is not going to help ya.

Asia certainly not like the weak euro, because the EU is as much a partner as well as the USA ... a weaker euro, which means competitive EU is definitely not good for Japan and China ... probably very interesting few months ahead ... euro is declining and it is clear but with the constant fear of intervention ... All in all, loot of fear in the market with no idea what next week ... result - strong USD :)

China Yuan Falls Sharply On Dollar's Strength Vs Major Currencies
China's yuan was sharply lower against the U.S. dollar Tuesday afternoon, at one point falling to a 12-week low in the onshore spot market, because of strong demand for the U.S. unit due to its broad strength against the euro and most Asian currencies.

Offshore, dollar-yuan non-deliverable forwards surged because of the U.S. dollar's broad strength in Asia.

JPY Looking Too Strong Again?

The latest slide in USD/JPY may not be very welcome in Tokyo. Data later this week could well show disinflationary pressures still posing a challenge, notes Credit Agricole. "A strong currency is not helpful in that regard, so the tolerance for JPY upside will be limited. The lunge down to 88.00 on USD/JPY looks a move too far in this regard," the bank adds.

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day. The forex blog articles come from outside sources, including forex brokers research as well as from the professionals at Global-View.com. This forex blog includes the Daily Forex View, Market Chatter and technical forex blog updates.
