Euro has just banged against 1.3140/3150 level or 50% fibo (1.3433 down to 1.2872). There could be some correction from here to probably 1.3060 down to 1.3030.

12847//13213 are the respective highs and lows projected for this week for GBPJPY.

Best way to use em is as entry and exit points which is to calculate midpoints and use those for fine tuning.

Market is being tested around 13076 which comes in as a midpoint between 13122 and 13030.

We look for the dip to the other side of this midpoint to 12940.

POMO

"The topic of how much money the Fed is gifting to the Primary Dealers via POMO commissions has to become front and center right now. While we appreciate fluff "profile" pieces in the NYT addressing the issue tangentially, and assuring us via worthless promises by people whose one purpose in life is to pad the pockets of their future employers ................, the truth is that this is daylight robbery and it is happening in front of everyone's eyes.

As a reminder, per the NYT: "As offers to sell Treasuries flash on a bank of trading screens, a computer algorithm works out which ones to accept." We contest that this algorithm is costing tapxayer billions each and every month ....The reason: we have reason to believe that the Fed's slippage rate is up to 5%. On a monthly POMO notional total of over $100 billion, this means that the Fed hands out well over $5 billion each and every month to the Primary Dealers. ....................

Surely there is one Congressman or woman who is not so bloody stupid, and actually understand that this is nothing short of legal and mandated theft from taxpayers, with the money being handed out directly to the Primary Dealers. ""

France and Germany veto increase in EU rescue fund
Germany and France have rejected calls by Brussels for a rapid increase in the size and powers of the EU's rescue machinery, once again exposing serious differences at the heart of monetary union
Charles Dumas at Lombard Street Research said Germany faces an impossible demand. "If the German people go along with plans to prop up the economies of Club Med to save the euro, it means that they will have to pay subsidies for the next decade or two that significantly exceed what they have had to pay for German reunification," he said.

Dil// UBS clients don't trade on more than 2 leverage because they trade in billions. Additionally one thing to note is that a .05 cent swing against their position does not cause them any worries because they are diversified folks, they will simply channel more money into that position and add more to it so that when the euro trend resumes it's original downward direction, the profits of their higher level purchases are probably worth many more times than their original position purchased at a lower price.

It's like when you go shopping and the PA system announces a 1 to 3 special where you buy 1 and get 3 free. Shoppers naturally will buy 3 with their own money to go back home with 3+9 = 1 dozen pieces.

European governments are considering aid for Portugal, debt buybacks, lower interest rates on rescue loans and guarantees against excessive debt as part of a package to quell the financial crisis, according to four people with direct knowledge of the talks.

The plan, which may include a loan to Portugal of about 60 billion euros ($78 billion) and purchases of outstanding Greek debt, would mark an attempt to contain a crisis that has frustrated unprecedented efforts by policy makers to calm markets and raised questions about the health of the 17-nation euro economy

- Market is set up for a positive Spanish auction on Thursday. Expect the ECB to MAKE it happen.
- AUD short-covering as well. AUDNZD up sharply.
- Gold/Silver down while crude is up modestly.

Sell EUR/USD ?

reminder from source of wisdom:

GVI Forex john 20:10 GMT January 11, 2011

dil- I have no way of giving you a meaningful probability. Any thing is possible, and even likely.

All I know is that that most "barriers" are just numbers, not ceilings or floors. Some institutional traders make a very nice living of running stops above or below the market. Nevertheless, the tone of the markets could quickly change if the EURUSD establishes itself above 1.3000. Just as BELOW 1.3000 it has a weak psychological tone.

Hope this helps!

i dont remember where i read about this but there are some people that need usd.

i think the reason has to do with the fact some of the largest oil producers only sell oil in usd. i know not all the producers sell in usd, but a lot of them do.

copy and paste from: http://www.illuminatirex.com/oil-iran-and-the-us-dollar/

"The Middle East…

The vast desert lands hold 2/3rd of the world’s remaining oil reserves and have the lowest production cost anywhere on Earth.

control of the area’s oil production is vital to US interests. In exchange for mucho $ and military protection, the world’s biggest oil producer, Saudi Arabia agrees to sell Its oil exclusively in US dollars.
However some OPEC members have not been as compliant…

In 2001, Iraq begins selling oil in Euros.

The US responds by quickly restoring democracy to the Iraqi people.
And Iraq’s oil is once again sold in US dollar.
Iranian Oil Bourse
2006 – the world’s 3rd largest exporter of crude oil, Iraq proposes to open a new oil exchange…

The Iranian oil bourse (OIB) would trade in non-dollar currencies, primarily the Euro.

The opening of the exchange has already been postponed several times since it was first proposed in 2005.
Meanwhile back in the war room…

WMDs?
Enriched uranium …
Terrorist state?
Nuclear program?

The Iran War coming soon on CNN

The End"

and thats why the united states wants to stop the "terrorist state" iran.

12:00 GMT (Global-View.com) January 12 - As I noted, last week the technicals tried to lead the euro fundamentals and this week the focus was on the latter to confirm the former. However, so far this has not materialized and this saw the eur/usd regain the 1.30+ level although briefly. The Portugal bond auction showed a good result on the surface but the euro sold off in what appeared to be a buy the rumor, sell the fact reaction. On the upside, the high today was at S2:

1.3045 = S2 – tested and capped the upside
1.3075 = 200 day mva
1.3088 = 38.2% of 1.30433-1.2875
1.3098 = S3

Source FX Chart Points

On the downside, the 1.2960 area seems pivotal:

1.2961 = intra-day low
1.2960 = 50% of 1.2875-1.3045
1.2958 = daily pivot
1.2940 – 61.8%
1.2905 = Tuesday low
1.2875 = Monday low

The 1.30 level is most important as a sentiment indicator and will set the bias going forwards.

Euro May Fail if Spanish Economy Collapses, Nobel Winner Pissarides Says
Reply
The European Union doesn’t have the resources to rescue Spain if it “collapses,” an event that could lead to the end of the euro, Nobel Prize-winning economist Christopher Pissarides said.

A collapse would be “a very serious problem,” Pissarides, who teaches at the London School of Economics, said at a forum in Beijing today. Such an event “might even see the end of the euro as a common currency,” he said.

“If Spain collapses the way Greece has collapsed I don’t think the European Union has the resources to rescue it,” Pissarides said.

Surge in cancellations as tourists abandon Queensland holidays
Reply
Tourists have rushed to cancel trips to Queensland in some cases even scrapping travel in regions of the state unaffected by the devastating floods, travel organisations said
No one interviewed could put a dollar figure on the destruction while the disaster was still unfolding
In the months before the once-in-a-century deluge, Queensland's tourism industry had struggled with the effects of the strong Australian dollar, which had traded at parity with the US dollar in recent weeks.

The strong Aussie dollar makes the region a less attractive destination to overseas and domestic visitors.

IT may be several weeks before the full impact of flooding across NSW is known, with the deluge forcing the evacuations of 3000 people and cutting off another 5000.
Premier Kristina Keneally made an emergency visit to the flood-stricken NSW north coast today, witnessing first hand the devastation wreaked by the rising Clarence River.
"There is an extraordinary flood event occurring here and the impact on the community is significant," she told reporters at Grafton today.

Those of us chained by journalistic destiny to the eternal EMU crisis remember the exact moment when Ireland succumbed.
The moment that Governor Patrick Hohonan said he “absolutely” expected his country to accept a loan package worth “tens of billion”, it was over.

So I had a sense of deja vu this morning when Teodora Cardoso, the Adminstradora of the Banco de Portugal, blurted out in a conference that her country should turn to the IMF. “It would be easier if we had external support because the adjustment would be less abrupt: if we leave it to the markets it may be brutal,” she said. (My loose translation).
Publico reports that “technical talks” are going on behind the scenes with the EU authorities and the IMF, with a plan likely to be in place by next week. This feels exactly like the final days – or hours – before Ireland gave in.

Sliding AUD/CAD On The Way To 0.9200 Target - GS
Reply
The rapidly falling AUD/CAD has more room to slide, says Goldman Sachs; it forecasts a move to 0.9200 from the current level at 0.9741 . As flooding continues in Queensland state, the AUD/CAD faced heavy pressure in 2011, falling from the 1.0152 level at the start of the year. The house expects more declines, citing Canada's strong trade links with an improving U.S economy as a reason, coupled with inflationary pressures in Asia that could lead to monetary tightening for Australia's trade partners. "Overall, the AUD/CAD seems to be a good reflection of growth differentiation, and more specifically a reflection of a Canadian growth catch-up relative to a more mature cycle in Australia," says the house Goldman Sachs

Vague talk of large fixing flows later today in London
Wed, Jan 12 2011, 02:27 GMT - Forex Live
By: Sean Lee

I would consider it unusual to see large fixing demand in the middle of the month as the big events are usually related to asset-reallocation and they usually happen towards months-end. Nevertheless, there is talk of some large demand for EUR, GBP, AUD and CAD at today's London fix which might go some way to explaining the jumps in pairs like EUR/USD and cable over the last hour.

Singapore C 00:58 - above round number like 1.30 we' ll probably need to see above 1.3030 to get some additional euro phillip.
however, while euro is under 1.3151 the bias is down and still should favour selling rallies.
caveat: I am known to have been wrong and taken losses.

Euro edges higher before Portugal's debt auction

The euro ratcheted higher against the dollar on Tuesday due to short-covering as traders became cautious ahead of a heavy schedule of debt issuance by southern European countries this week. Traders would pay attention to Portugal's debt auction on Wednesday and the country will sell up to 1.25 billion euros of bonds, followed by Spanish and Italian bond sales on Thursday.

Euro was supported as Japan's Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda said Japan will buy euro bonds to help boost trust in European Financial Stability Facility (EFSE) scheme while eurozone sources said the finance ministers of the region would be likely to consider the option of raising the effective lending capacity of the zone's rescue fund as part of efforts to calm sovereign debt markets. Market speculation of increased Portuguese bond buying by ECB also lifted the single currency. Although the single currency retreated to 1.2904 from Asian high of 1.2992, the euro later edged higher to 1.2994 in NY.

In other news, Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates echoed earlier comments by his finance minister Santos and said in a speech in Lisbon that Portugal wouldn't need a bailout from the EU and its 2010 budget deficit would be lower than forecast, he also added rumours that the country needed aid are only helping 'speculators' while hurting Portugal and the euro.

The greenback rose from 82.68 against the Japanese yen in Asian morning and although the pair staged a pullback, renewed buying interest at 82.90 lifted up the pair and dollar reached 83.50 in NY before retreating.

Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Narayana Kocherlakota said this would not be the time to start tightening policy now. He added 'if U.S. Fed haven't started to consider tightening by end-2011, it may need to start considering by 2012.' In other news, U.S. sold $32 billion 3-year notes at high yield 1.027% with a bid-to-cover ratio at 3.06.

The British pound initially edged lower and dipped to 1.5513 in Europe after U.K.'s BCC warned that Britain's economic recovery was risking a setback in Q4, 2010, however, cable rebounded strongly from there and rose to 1.5640 in NY before moving sideways.

Economic indicators to be released on Wednesday include:

Japan trade balance and Economic watch DI, UK trade balance, Canada new housing price index, and US export price index and Fed budget.

What's the buzz?

can you explain why there would be a defense of the 1.3 level? and who is defending 1.3?

i was thinking about something that i think is similar to the idea of defending an exchange rate.

for instance: is it good or bad for china when the exchange rate or the audusd is above parity? im not sure what the answer to this question is but if i had to make an answer i would say

stronger dollar means the reserves are worth more and those reserves can be used to purchase commodities needed for growth. so i reason that it is better for china if the exchange rate of audusd is below parity.

maybe im wrong about this.

so who benefits if the eurusd is below 1.3?
