ECONOMIC DATA FINALLY MATTERS
Reply
+++worth a look just for the animated gif.++++

I mentioned last week and even yesterday the ISM Report for Wednesday will be bad. But I’ll admit that after yesterday’s terrible data encouraged bulls, I had to scratch my head. It appears now Tuesday’s late day ramp higher, clearly shown in the SPY 5 minute chart yesterday, was pure manipulation and marking prices higher to support portfolios. Window dressing is illegal and hardly ever discovered or punished. Tuesday will be no exception. Even late in the day Tuesday the CME lowered margins for trading most stock index futures which was one helluva trap.

ECB Bini Smaghi:Cbanks Should Probably Abandon Core Inflation

MOSCOW—Cash-strapped Belarus has turned to the International Monetary Fund for a new loan, the Belarussian government said on its web site Wednesday, as a much-anticipated bailout from a Russian-led fund will likely be smaller than expected.

said before in different ways but it is worth repeating....take it fwiw or IMHO

June is the last month of QE2, Since really nothing has changed, for all the trillions spent/given to the Big Banks, there will be major push (think Hank Paulson threatening total destruction if his One Page request for $700bln-NO STRINGS ATTACHED- from Congress) to bring about more Free Money, in whatever guise it presents itself. The Fear of Deflation is the primary weapon.

as above IMHO.

  • The May ADP Private jobs estimate was a big disappointment with jobs gaining by a measly 38K when an increase of 175K was seen. The ISM manufacturing PMI suggested that the economy is slowing as well. It came in at 53.5 vs. 58.9 expected. The U.S. 10-yr note closed at 2.94%, -11bp.

  • The first day of the month is global manufacturing PMI day. The majority of reports mostly came in weak. Even in non-manufacturing economies, the manufacturing PMI is closely watched because of its sensitivity to economic cycles.

  • Revisions to EZ PMI data were down, but in line with the flash estimate.
UK mfg PMI was significantly weaker than forecast. The GBP has been hit hard on the data.

  • Thursday will see U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims, because of when the survey is taken, they will have no implications for the monthly data, but they are another insight into the strength of the economy..

  • The Greek financial situation remains in play. A bailout of some type is seen as likely because the alternative (contagion?) is be a lot worse. Moodys downgraded Greek debt by three notches to CAA1 with a Negative  Outlook late Wednesday.

  • Australian 1Q11 GDP contracted by -1.2% q/q as forecast.  That time period had seen serious flooding.

  • Odds are that Japanese PM Kan might be on his way out on a vote of no-confidence.

Revising down Q2 GDP, again

When we revised down our estimate of Q2 GDP growth last week to 2.5% we noted that the risks to this quarter were still to the downside. Given the hard activity data we've received since then -- particularly the auto sales and construction report -- it looks like those downside risks are being realized, and we are lowering our Q2 projection to 2.0%.

Are headlines on Greece gnawing at your inner psyche? Enough already! Headline fatigue. Or perhaps end of QE2 has you restless over end of official support for risk assets and rates? Maybe it is the global slowdown unfolding that is causing that pain in your stomach? But if that ain’t troubling you Bunkie, how about a Stan-Druckenmiller-recommended experiment with the closure in government August 02 (Geithner’s calendar) and temporary default (failure to make payment on government debt)?

Traders are really asking themselves this morning whether the string of weaker data are a temporary phenomenon or a new trend taking hold as Spring gives way to the doldrums of summer. The deadlock over the US debt ceiling has impacted the greenback over the last few weeks but the real showdown over potential US default is a bit further down the road, around the end of July.

viies 14:51 - another mistake by the Greek. The Greek is unfocussed and is compliant and bending to outsiders, giving up sovereignty and taking a stick up his rearend.

What remains to be seen is IF the Greek gets gripped by a sudden and massive realization of the path to slavery and subservience that he is on and spontaneously does more, much moRE, than 24-hour protest some "austerity"

The Source: Should Britain Become A Nation Of Renters?
Reply
Efforts are under way to kick-start the U.K.'s flagging housing market. Leading FTSE house builders met the Council of Mortgage Lenders last week to find a way of providing mortgages worth 95% of a property's value. This could lead to the creation of a fund to be used by banks to underwrite mortgages. The news coincides with a report from mortgage lender Halifax which identified the emergence of "Generation Rent." It seems a majority of young people without their own homes believe they have no prospect of getting on the property ladder. Does it really matter that nearly half of those young people surveyed say the country is becoming more like Europe where renting is seen as the norm? It's obvious the Spanish are struggling with their similar housing model, while the German economic machine motors on despite having the greatest proportion of home-renters in Europe.

  • Today features the monthly ADP Private jobs estimate. An increase of 175-190K is seen in jobs. The ADP data recently has become more accurate, but the markets are likely to be skeptical about any divergence from consensus.

  • The first day of the month is global manufacturing PMI day. The majority of reports seem to be coming in weaker.

The report raises questions about speculation over a BOE monetary policy tightening any time soon..

  • The Greek financial situation remains in play. A bailout of some type is seen as likely because the alternative (contagion?) is be a lot worse.

  • Australian 1Q11 GDP contracted by -1.2% qq as forecast.  That time period had seen serious flooding.

  • Odds are that Japanese PM Kan might be on his way out on a vote of no-confidence.

And Dil I live in the South of France and this last weekend was the Grand Prix which was absolutely sold out with record crowds, fully booked hotels etc., no sign of crisis at all. It was in fact surreal given the reporting in the Anglo-Saxon press on Europe. As for real estate, I had to turn down an offer above (that's right above) my asking price recently because I can't close on the property I would like because..... the seller put the price up and now I have to consider my options. That's the reality on the ground. Your tenuous connections to European real estate notwithstanding.

Germany's Merkel: Ability Of The Currency Area As Whole Is Of Utmost Importance

Germany will decide what to do about further aid for Greece after seeing a report on Athens' finances by the European Union, the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Wednesday.
"Whether we need to do something, and where we need to do something, can only be decided after we get the report on the table," Merkel told reporters through an interpreter after meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The report from the "Troika" on Greece's finances and reform efforts, expected over the weekend, will be key to any further aid packages for the crisis-stricken country.

Tech Talk - EURUSD - EURCHF Raises A Flag?
Reply
10:40 GMT (Global-View.com) June 1 - What caught my eye walking in this morning is eur/chf, which is trading lower despite a firmer tone to the eur/usd. This raises a flag over the eur/usd recovery as eur/chf is a key indicator of sovereign concerns. This follows a 2-day double top at 1.2317 overnight and eur/usd pausing shy of 1.4454 = 50% of 1.4939-1.3968.

On the downside, 1.4345-60 is a support zone (1.4360 = yesterday's US session low, 1.4357 = 50 day mva, 1.4345 = foMay 20 high and yesterday's breakout level).

For today, 1.44 seems to be acting like a sentiment indicator as is eur/chf 1.22. On the upside, buy stops do not show up until today's 1.4448 high. This suggests next move dictated by break from 1.4350-1.4450 area.

The European morning focus on the periphery situation for developments. The EUR/USD hit a fresh 4-week high near 1,4450 on reports that a new aid package for Greece was underway. The recent spat of soft US data increased the prospects of an extended period of easy Fed policy and weighed upon the USD sentiment. However, the risk aversion theme was trying to resurface with the plethora of weak economic data that has ensued in all regions of the globe.

My feeling says that china will turn into euro seller at some point the coming days. Euro trading around the current levels with all the very negative news around it must cause using extra levels of caution. reason is the almost EUR 200'000 debt for each employed Greek and basically it is very clear that that debts cannot be ever paid back, but euro still so high, interesting :-)

QE X or let the markets judge, so for now just sell the euro and look further around mid of June.

Sell EURUSD
Entry: Target: Stop:

Prolonged uptrend amidst eye of the storm shows this was just a short covering led rally. Close to its resistance level at 1.4450-1.45 warrants a strong sell. Expecting 1.42 very soon on this counter before it again resumes its uptrend. However I still stick to my conviction that my year end target of 1.5 is intact.

China May Residential Property Prices Up 0.53% Vs April - Data Provider
Reply
Residential property prices in 100 major cities in China rose 0.53% in May from April, faster than April's 0.40% on-month increase, China Real Estate Index System said Wednesday.
The data provider said a survey of property developers and real-estate agencies showed that average home prices in May rose to CNY8,819 per square meter from CNY8,773 in April. The survey, which the company compiles together with online real-estate brokerage SouFun Holdings, is watched widely since China scrapped in January a national property price index. Government officials have repeatedly expressed concern about unaffordable housing prices, which have remained high despite a recent slowdown in transaction volumes. Even as it works to increase the supply of public housing, China is worried about a bubble in the private-property market. Authorities have taken a series of steps to curb that growth, from interest-rate hikes to administrative measures, such as limits on home purchases.
