CB your earlier clip http://youtu.be/8TkI3q0XEhk made me laugh out loud.. !

Not quite in Vancouver M's mode, but almost as tangential, men and women of SOE Special Operations Executive parachuted into the south of France and disguised as railway workers, sabotaged the rail trucks which were to transport the Panzers of Das Reich SS Panzer Division to Normandy in response to the Allied landings.

The rail trucks were dispersed so as not to draw the attention of the RAF, the agents re-greased the wheel bearings with grease...... loaded with carborundum grit which censored the bearings rendering the wheels locked solid.

The journey was planned to take some 48 hours took ten days, a very real and very significant delay allowing the Allies to consolidate their foothold.

How simple, low tech yet how very effective.

Breakdown In Euro And US Stocks: A Decoupling Story?

An interesting sign has emerged over the past couple of sessions: US stocks manage to claw back losses even as the euro stays firmly in red.

If this trend continues, it could add to a view that 2012 could turn out to be a year of decoupling between the US and Europe.

For now, US data have generally been better than forecast, signaling.....

Those attempting to pressure Iran by increasing "tensions" and thus the price of oil have it precisely backwards. The one sure way to fatally destabilize the Iranian theocracy is to adjust the demand and supply of oil so the price plummets (as it did in December 2008)

to $25/barrel, and stays there for at least six months.

Spain Could Cause More Problems For The World Markets
    Reply
The issue with this is that it shows the regions are pretty much exhausting all their lines of credit. While the central government debt load is about 67% of GDP, it won't make much of a difference when the regions begin to default on their payments. The central government will eventually have to try to bail them out, meaning the government debt load as a percentage of GDP will increase.

    • Key Items: EZ- Sentiment data. US/CA- Employment.

    • Traders took another run at the downside on the EURUSD. The trigger was another bout of weakness in European bank stocks and concerns about future sovereign deficit funding operations.

    • Thursday saw key employment data from the U.S.  The ADP monthly private jobs survey saw an unexpected surge in jobs of 325K in December vs. expectations for about 180K in the month. Even ADP reportedly raised some issues about the reliability of the data.

    • We continue to underscore that the tight EURUSD correlation to the S&P has been working on the downside, but it has broken down on equity moves to the upside.

    • PMI data this week has been mostly better than expected. Thursday saw considerably stronger than expected U.K. Services PMI data. U.S. Services PMI data were higher mo/mo, but fell short of expectations.

    • Debt issues persist in Europe with Hungary and Spain in the headlines this week. We  have been indicating that S&P downgrades of France and others are widely expected in January. This will impact the ratings of the EFSF..

one more piece of 'good" news from would-be dirigistist and free-market triumphalists: Fed Urges Action on Housing - wsj
Bank Warns Congress That Tight Lending Standards Threaten Wider Economy

... "In a 26-page paper sent to top lawmakers on congressional banking committees, the Fed warned that tight mortgage- lending standards threaten to hold back the economy.

The Fed also signaled support for more aggressive use of Fannie Mae and " .../..

Nevermind that almost every major market prediction or assessment Ben ever made has been widely off the mark.

When people in position of disproportionate power in the society make blunders, they tend to be memorable doozies:.
    - Housing Bubble Will Not Affect National Economy,
    - "largely reflect strong economic fundamentals"
    - "The impact on the broader economy and financial markets of the problems in the subprime markets seems likely to be contained,"
    - “While rising delinquencies and foreclosures will continue to weigh heavily on the housing market this year, it will not cripple the U.S.”
    - Subprime “will not affect the economy overall.''
    - "I expect there will be some failures. I don't anticipate any serious problems of that sort among the large internationally active banks that make up a very substantial part of our banking system."
    - Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae “will make it through the storm”, are "in no danger of failing" and are “adequately capitalized"

Even a sightless maggot has better perception of Bubble`s presence... and Ben`s FED wants to make us believe that something they call improved market communication in 2012 will guide us better ! More like At Your Own Risk

I'm trading the Feb GC futures and I show the 200 Day MA at around 1634 and the 20 Day MA around 1619. Looks like we may be in store for a close at or above the latter for the first time in nearly a month, and if the 200Day gets taken next week my guess is we see a quick run to 1670-80 to see what's there. If that goes, then we target the trendline drawn off the highs or early Sept, which currently comes in around 1715ish. I think there may be lots of (vulnerable) shorts out there who may be a little too comfortable since the thin-market lows of last week. If they start getting nervous...

A mere flip of the calendar 2012 may be, but something certainly looks different in the almighty risk trade that so dominated markets in the old year.

ADP Private Payroll Comes 8 Standard Deviations Above Estimate

The US economic "indicators" have once again entered the magic unicorn-cum-Department of Truth zone as if to prove to China that when it comes to data fudging the US really can be unparalleled. The just released December ADP private payrolls jobs, which has been completely uncorrelated to the NFP for the past several years (R squared of 0.003), came at a ridiculous 325,000 jobs on consensus of 177,000 private jobs. As a reminder this is a carbon copy replica of what happened in December 2010 when ADP soared and the NFP disappointed materially.

Japan probably recorded its first annual trade deficit (JNTBAL) since 1963 last year, part of a shift that may see the world’s largest net creditor come to rely on inflows of foreign capital by 2015, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co.
“If foreigners don’t believe Japan’s fiscal situation will improve, Japan could become like Greece,” said Masaaki Kanno, chief economist at JPMorgan in Tokyo. “We’re getting poorer as the trade deficit increases.”

ADP due at 15mins after the hour. Some say its a better read on jobs than NFP. We have no opinion on this. Recently its been a better indicator of NFP.

Watching the EURUSD to S&P correlation trade. The two traded together extremely well earlier today when the EURUSD was weak. Now once again an equity bounce was not reflected in EURUSD.

This was a lot of bonds for the market to take down, especially with the jumbo €4 bln awarded on the 10/21s. But other than the big fill on this award, the other auctions have gone well enough. Bidding for the 10/21s was just under the average of the last three taps of this bond with €6.6 bln coming in today against an average of €6.7 bln. €4 bln were filled, against an average of €2.9 bln, marking the single biggest allotment on these bonds since last Oct. Hence the resulting cover of 1.6 is paltry when compared to an average of 2.4. All in all, okay auctions....10yr German/France spread +139bp vs +141bp, pre-auction.

EUR/CHF might not be significantly lower but EUR/JPY printed at session/intra-day lows (98.68) and this has helped EUR/USD slip back into the 1.28s to post fresh 2012 lows. 1.2848 the latest spike low as the immediate stops below the figure were popped. Further weakness the prognosis, but official buyers do lurk in the mid-1.28s to at the very least slow the rate of the descent. EUR/USD option structures at 1.2850 remain key to the longer-term downside. Support 1.2828 (21-day lower Bollinger), resistance 1.2914 (hourly high).

Indicators are random and that is to be all good because random trades entry is not important. Stop the loss with precision is important! It is not hard to suggest the market can do anything with many random numbers of supp res fibo elliott macd stoch rsi....but to not stop the loss with precision? You can give me any hand at poker. It is not the random hand to hold that matters for ultimate winnings.

eurjpy is all the way down to 95, 98.50 is just interim and intraday downside target, break of which will bring Qindex's 97 quickly,

eurjpy will likely drag usdjpy down as well. Both are moving in tandem, one leads another

Italy has enough problems hanging over its head and now Hungary pops-up. On Weds, the Hungarian CB was forced to cancel a bond swap auction after bond yields soared above 10% because of the controversial constitution enacted last week, thus causing concern that international authorities may well abandon current talks over a new financing agreement. Okay, why Italy ....the answer being that European banks, notably Austria and Italy, are said to be HEAVILY exposed to Hungarian debt. With that in the background, Spain seen attempting to hide from their own problems including sky high unemployment, crap housing market and talk of them soon to be asking for a bail-out. Seemingly, it's time for equity markets to partially abandon the rose tinted view of the world that held sway during the Tues session to get back to viewing the 2012 reality show. Big auctions today as France attempts to peddle €7-8bn of long-end stuff with investors knowing a downgrade is most likely just around the corner.

    2012 INTRA-DAY!! USD/JPY OUTLOOK - 76.75

Dollar is expected to remain under pressure due to cross buying of yen vs other currencies, below Nov's low at 76.58 would confirm decline from October's high at 79.55 has resumed and further weakness would be seen, however, loss of momentum would prevent steep fall below 76.11 and bring a much-needed recovery later.

On the upside, only above 77.56 would signal a temporary low is made and yield recovery to 77.88 but resistance at 78.04 should hold and bring retreat later.
