The US is running at 2 trillion annual debt increase currently and increasing. Whatever he requests and gets granted will be out and done around August and there is still time before the election in Nov for a downgrade. At this rate the US will have reached 40 trillion of defcit debt by 2020

with the backing of the full faith and credit of the US Gov't...

I know this could be a political debate but my 0.01 cents view on this is ...surely with 1 Trillion we can provide all American a house to live in free of mortgage.....then we wipe the banks and move them to deposit savings and separate them from funds, CDO, hedge ....etc. Time to separate the lies and RESET the button....but alas....that is all a dream because we want the next population growth to fund the current debt binge in the name of Fiscal Responsibility....ha ha ha ha

Market is poise now....can just range trade whole day...be watchful and don't blink...bias is short...especially the Euro....then audusd......or aud sgd...some exotics could yield good sometimes.....

Data was Crap from USA....but the way the media and the Spin goes its ok.....we weak but recovering....LOL its 3 years now from GFC...here come Depression 1......the debt reload!!!

    Reply

    • Key Items EZ- Trade, US/CA- Trade, University of Michigan Survey.

    • While we were watching the central bank decisions today (BOE and ECB unchanged), the major news was elsewhere.

    • U.S. data on Thursday (Retail Sales and Weekly jobless Claims) were disappointing.

    • On the other hand, the Spanish (bond) and Italian (bill) auctions went well. The U.S. 30yr auction met with disappointing demand.

    • The EURUSD gained on the day as there was no new news to support the heavily short positioning of the markets.

    • In addition to data, the focus on Friday is on a possible S&P downgrade of European sovereign debt. Since mid-December, there have been rumors of an imminent downgrade of French debt.

    • USD sentiment has been improving following the most recent U.S. employment data. The markets are pricing in a U.S. economic recovery.

    • U.K. industrial production and manufacturing output data reinforced recession forecasts.

which euroland is about to refuse "orders" about their proposed sit within the eurozone and leave the eurozone, most likely without a trial but well with a trail of debt?

GVI Forex Blog 21:38 GMT January 12, 2012 Reply
The euro climbed to a one-week peak against the U.S. dollar on Thursday as a solid sale of Spanish and Italian debt and more upbeat comments about the euro-zone economy from the European Central Bank chief eased concerns about the region's debt.

Obama requests $1.2T increase in debt ceiling

The debt has since topped $15 trillion.

WASHINGTON – President Obama is asking Congress for another $1.2 trillion increase in the nation's debt limit.

The request is largely a formality. It's the third and final request the president is allowed under a deal the White House and lawmakers reached in August to prevent a government default.

Congress has 15 days to reject the president's request. The White House says Obama would veto any objections in order to avoid a default. .../..
    ---
When Geithner claims that US govt will never default he means one or both of:
    1) ability to extract additional tax from the taxpayers under his heel
    2) print some more

More than 100 customers of MF Global gathered on Thursday to meet with the trustee liquidating the failed firm’s core trading operations, hoping to learn more about $1.2 billion in missing funds.
But many left the meeting frustrated by a lack of fresh news on the whereabouts of the money.

Some of the answers by the trustee’s office did not sit well with customers in the audience, including an assertion by Mr. Giddens that he is unlikely to seek a “claw back” of assets that were transferred out of MF Global five to six months ago. Mr. Giddens did not say whether he would pursue funds that were transferred from MF Global in the days or weeks before it filed for bankruptcy.
Another customer, Paul Hamann, posed the same question, arguing that most of his holdings at MF Global were warehouse receipts of physical goods that were carried no liens. He added that he has only received about 3 percent of what he is owed.

One customer, Peter Suarez, said he wanted to know whether Mr. Giddens would take action against JPMorgan Chase, one of MF Global’s primary banks, or Jon S. Corzine, the firm’s former chief executive. (Neither was addressed.)

“They cherry-picked the qustions,” he said. “Meanwhile, customers haven’t been made whole, and they’re in the toilet. This is a joke.”

In today's issuance of $13 billion in 30 year reopening, the results were anything but strong, with the bond pricing at 2.985%, a a 3 bps tail compared to the 2.955% When Issued.

Furthermore, the BTC was a big drop compared to last auction's record 2.98, coming at 2.60, compared to 2.68 in the last 12 auctions. And with Indirects taking down just 31.9%, and Directs sliding to a one year low of 7.2%, it means that it was the Fed, via the Primary Dealer repo mechanism that once again took down a whopping 60.9% of the entire auction.

Chances are it should soon stage a recovery against the single currency, even if overtaking the dollar again will prove a lot more difficult.

The shift in sterling's fortunes has come for two reasons: increased ......

1900 was just a mole-hill..I am almost certain we will see well above 5000 when this Dollar and equity run-down or Gold rush run its course some years down the road..But market makers always make fool of those when the farm-betting crowd shout for the Moon in any market..And the crowd's sentiment turns cold after loosing their farms and shirts..And the market makers start again their longs..The pattern will always be the same as long as there is a market and the ever-charitable crowd..

Expecting to see somewhere between 1600-1550 before this correction ends in coming weeks..And the market moves up to another new mole-hill.

However, given what happened yesterday when the market was leaning the same way, expect caution as the cue will come from the reaction to comments from Draghi at the ECB press conference.

FX price action was quite subdued during the early part of the European session ahead of the Spanish bond and Italy's bill auctions. Dealer sentiment noted that the auctions were likely getting too much attention to justify the 'manipulated outcome' it would likely produce ahead of monetary policy announcements from the BoE and ECB. The EUR/USD did register marginal gains following the Spanish and Italian auction results but equity markets did perform better in the aftermath and extended gains to over 1% for most major bourses

New Rules on Swaps Will Protect Big Traders
    Reply
Wall Street investors will receive significant new protections under a plan adopted by federal regulators on Wednesday, an overhaul that comes in the wake of the collapse of MF Global.

When MF Global filed for bankruptcy last year, some $1.2 billion in customer money vanished from the brokerage firm. The firm’s futures customers, farmers and hedge funds alike, are still without nearly a third of their money.
But the new rules would not prevent a brokerage firm from repeating MF Global’s mistake of misusing customer money, nor would they apply to any futures industry clients like those of MF Global.

Instead, the changes affect only customers who trade swaps, a complex derivative contract that allows companies to hedge exposure to interest rates and other financial products. These investors are usually Wall Street banks, hedge funds and large companies.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission voted 4 to 1 on Wednesday to adopt the overhaul.

The rules seek to protect swaps customer accounts by segregating them from a brokerage firm’s money. And when a swaps customer defaults at a bankrupt brokerage firm, the new rule will keep other customers’ cash off limits.

CHARTING MARKETS: Euro/Dollar Pair Whispers 'Rally'
    Reply
(Dow Jones via eFXnews) If the euro fell versus the dollar in Wednesday's trading, it didn't make much noise.

Of course, the pair was fluttered by Fitch's Ratings' earlier warning about a "catastrophic" collapse in the currency union and as such modest downtrend lows were recorded. James Glassman said despite the doom and gloom stemming from Europe, the economic landscape in the U.S. is on the mend and picking up momentum. Speaking at an economic seminar here Wednesday, he said the euro zone is....

    Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room.
