Who says you can't lift stops? Is this the trading commandment of the great Chicago AC, long time member posting with the ever revolving handle? At least you have kept this handle for almost two months.
My stops are volatility based, not rigid. If volatility increases, my dynamic stops can bend away from price. Perhaps this is why I have continued to have such fantastic trading results. The risk measures are still well defined within VaR. How are your trades? HIHIHIHIHI
Fixed, rigid stops are triggered more often than not. Perhaps that;s why 95%ers do the same typical thing and have the same typical result? HIHIHIHI!

Please keep the faith as well. It sounds like you took some good trades that didn't have a positive outcome. No sweat. Sample size is key. Keep 'em coming and you'll get yours as you know.
There are good trades with negative outcomes and then there are bad trades with positive outcomes. I prefer the former than the latter. Discipline is THE SECRET.

Let's also not forget who was looking for 1.2777ZEUS for > 13+ figures south.
I do not know if the current trade will work or not but from a risk/reward perspective, it looks terrific still. You know, I take criticism when I scalp for 20-200 pips as having too short of a time frame view. Once I post bigger picture structural core trades the heat still flows after a stick or two traded in the other direction. That's also why one should know their portfolio VaR and hedge with options if needed as well.

Besides that ... I like the fact that there are no or almost no believers - and almost everybody here is fighting against the prevailing trends. Hand in hand with Zeus - lol.
That tells me that these trends have lots of legs still.

nice gold chart, KB. There's some wood to chop from 1750-1800 but after that I think we accelerate past the all time highs to test 2000 fairly soon, and then...
From right here lots of people are expecting a pullback, but I'm not so sure. It's logical and prudent to expect one, but a bigger surprise, and therefore the greater pain might be for a strong continuation next week. China is back after Chinese New Years and I'm eager to see if they fade the strong weekly move up or jump on board and send it higher to test the 1750-70 area first.

However, if one practices art long enough they might call for 10 figure drops and 5 figure climbs. That way an artist can always be right, like a broken clock twice per day.

MPAA Exec Admits: 'We're Not Comfortable With The Internet'

There have been a ton of post mortems about the whole SOPA/PIPA fight, with many trying to figure out where and how the MPAA "went wrong." After all, this is a group that is very used to getting its way inside DC. And it got slaughtered. We've already discussed our thoughts on why the MPAA failed, but what stuns me is how every time someone from the MPAA opens their mouth, they seem to make the situation worse by demonstrating just how tone deaf they are to the online community and what their concerns were.

S.Sudan sees oil shutdown complete by Saturday
By Aaron Maasho and Hereward Holland - Reuters – 1 hr 0 mins ago
Email
Print
NAIROBI/PALOUGE, South Sudan (Reuters) - South Sudan's top negotiator said his country would complete an oil production shutdown by Saturday, after Sudan and South Sudan failed to agree on a deal to end an oil crisis.
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and South Sudan's President Salva Kiir met on the sidelines of a meeting of East African officials in Ethiopia.
The two discussed a deal that "would have frozen the situation and reverses the unilateral actions that had been taken by both," a source close to the talks told Reuters.
But Pagan Amum told reporters in Addis Ababa: "Tomorrow the shutdown will be complete and what will be remaining to be done the day after is finishing the cleaning and flushing of facilities."
South Sudan is shutting down its oil production, last put by officials at 350,000 bpd in November, to protest against Sudan seizing some southern shipments at the northern port of Port Sudan in a dispute over pipeline fees.
Both countries depend heavily on oil and have put forward widely differing figures for a possible transit fee. Sudan has publicly proposed $36 per barrel, while South Sudan has listed figures under $1 per barrel.
The main operator Petrodar expects to close the key blocks 3 and 7, officials said on Friday. Petrodar is a consortium comprising mainly Chinese firms China National Petroleum Co (CNPC), Sinopec and Malaysian firm Petronas. Analysts estimate its total oil output from South Sudan at 250,000 bpd.
"We have shut down almost around 250 (wells). Remaining are 390 oil wells. The program is expected to finish in three more days. Maybe on 30 or 31 of this month all oil wells in Ada, Gumri, Moleta and Palouge will be shut down," Hago Bakheed Mahmoud, field operation manager for Petrodar, told reporters at the Palouge oil fields.
He said current output was still between 145,000 and 150,000 barrels a day, adding that the company could resume production within three to four days. Blocks 3 and 7 provide much of South Sudan's output.
Oil Minister Stephen Dhieu Dau said the shutdown was going to plan.
"The shutdown is going well," Dhieu Dau told reporters during a visit to the Palouge oil field in Upper Nile state. "Now 50 percent of the wells are off," he said, without saying whether this was referring to only Upper Nile fields or the whole country.
He spoke after the presidents of Sudan and South Sudan had met at the African Union in Addis Ababa.
He said Khartoum may have diverted some oil from the fields which lay on the southern side of the joint border to feed its refinery in Khartoum.
There was no immediate comment from Sudan which has said it was seizing an unspecified amount of southern oil to use for its refineries in a dispute over pipeline transit fees.
Sudan has also sold at least one cargo of crude seized from South Sudan at millions of dollars discount to the official price charged by the South and is offering more, industry sources have said.

EURUSD spikes higher following Greek official saying a debt deal could be done by Sunday night. High extended by 2 pips to 1.3186, key resistance remains at 1.3197.
There has been chatter that a deal is near so this should not be a surprise but it is the reaction to news that is important.

And for @CL ... will we see 116 shortly, with a spike?
Though maybe just more wet dreams.
As that would be sort of a backfire for the Europeans punishing Iran - so they will do everything to keep that black gold down - but ... looking at the daily brent I can see a monster pot or kettle or cup ... 126 looks inevitable, or not? Then building the handle - and then 180 or so?

10 A.M.? Time To Sell The Euro, Time-Of-Day Traders Say

(Dow Jones via eFXnews) If the euro, the dollar and the yen tended to rise and fall at predictable times of the day, could you trade on that? Some strategists and traders think so.
They say there are modest but regular gains to be made by playing the clock for those that are attuned to such patterns.
Royal Bank of Scotland strategists tracked the euro's intra-day movement against the dollar from 2006 through 2011 and found that the common currency fell by two basis points on average in London morning hours, and rose by....

Inventory Stockpiling Accounts For 1.9% Of 2.8% Q4 US Economic Growth
Reply
The US economy grew at a 2.8% annualized pace in the supposedly blistering fourth quarter, yet the number was a disappointment not only in that it missed estimates of 3.0% (and far higher whisper numbers) but when one looks at the components, where a whopping 1.94% of the upside was attributable to a rise in inventories as restocking took place. And as everyone knows in this day and age a spike in inventories only leads to sub-cost dumping a few months later. In other words, the economy grew at a 0.8% pace ex inventories. Yet for all intents and purposes, this is considered "growth."

From reading posts on the forum I think some are terribly confused. When an individual calls for a violent drop to 1.20, several figures higher from the current monthly high (tight box), and surprises below 1.31 should set one up to take credit later if anything happens. Predicting the market is foolish. Nobody can predict the non-existent future.

Leaders in Euro Zone Shift Focus Beyond Gloom
Reply
DAVOS, Switzerland — Is the “end of the euro” over?
Among political and business leaders gathering here for the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting, the talk seems to be have shifted away from doomsday forecasts of an imminent euro collapse. Instead, the debate is now focusing on the best way for the euro zone to weather an economic downturn and whether it can emerge stronger from the ordeal.
Leaders like Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany are displaying a renewed will to preserve the common currency and are appearing more united. Business leaders have made clear their desperate desire to save the euro zone. And the European Central Bank’s willingness to flood the banking system with cash has won crucial time.

Reuters) - A law to be debated in Iran's parliament on Sunday could halt exports of oil to the European Union as early as next week, the semi-official Fars news agency quoted a lawmaker as saying on Friday.
"On Sunday, parliament will have to approve a 'double emergency' bill calling for a halt in the export of Iranian oil to Europe starting next week," Hossein Ibrahimi, vice-chairman of parliament's national security and foreign policy committee, was quoted as saying.
Parliament is pushing for the export ban to deny the EU a 6-month phase-in of the embargo on Iranian oil that the bloc agreed on Monday as part of a raft of tough new Western sanctions aimed at forcing Iran to curb its nuclear program.
The EU accounted for 18 percent of Iranian crude oil sales in the first half of 2011, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), making it Iran's second biggest customer after China.

Unwinding of short JPY has been a key driver today and eurjpy selling has restrained the eurusd upside. USDJPY tends to be sensitive to US interest rates and the drop in rates following the FOMC statement appears to have undercut the USDJPY rally. Bottom of the current range remains around 76.50. This will open your eyes a 2nd time.
And we all know that NAZ is usually the leading force in stock markets.
So what are your conclusions?
How high?
Huch.

Another observation: when had silver (THE liquidity indicator #1) it's breakout?
Did silver smell the Nasdaq breakout?
What are your targets for the NAZ - end of 5th?
Timewise - and pricewise?
That will help to determine what might be ahead for EURUSD and the Dollar. And ... the fate of our gods showmaster #1 in regards of the global reserve currency.
For bc's followers this is of course not at all surprising.
It's just according to bc's textbook. And gladly they all sold their paper dollar treasuries at juicy levels and exchanged them into again dirt cheap hard stuff.

I think ZH and Tyler and all their followers are well advised to get rid of their alltime bearish attitude. As that in the end could become a quite costly and painful experience.

Another observation: go back in the yearlies and check when the last yen carry trades started ... 10y cycle anybody?
Another for another 10 years to come?
But again - that is just an observation and somthing to eventualy think about.
And given the HUGE SHS in the DOW or DAX (over the last decades) .. odds are pretty low for it to happen - except those SHS'es are going to be toasted ... and we get new highs in stocks ... what given the FED + ECB + CHINA infusions - shouldn't be ruled out.
So again maybe 2012 maybe not an armageddon year - but quite the opposite - at least pricewise.
Time will tell.
At least until March or so, if last years trend is any guide, we should continue to grind higher. With the hard assets currencies running ahead and the paper currencies behind.

Troika’s dictat to Greece: 150,000 job cuts, cuts in spending on defense and health, further pay cuts for civil servants and pensioners
This one will sting: the troika has presented its demands;
Greek ministers expressed concern about the reaction of lawmakers;
there has been some progress in the PSI+ talks, as Olli Rehn holds out the possibility of an increased participation of the public sector;
Reuters says the ECB remains split on its position;
Jean-Claude Juncker says there is a need for a greater public sector contribution;
he also says that the second loan package will not come unless all parties sign up to the programme;
Michel Barnier said he will wait before implementing proposal to force write-downs for banks;
Francois Hollande came out with his economic plan: €20bn more expenditures, €29bn in higher taxes on the rich and large companies;
sticks to deficit targets, and a trajectory towards a balanced budget by 2017;
Le Monde welcomes Hollande’s programme;
Frankfurter Allgemeine does not;
Brussels estate agents have been swamped by calls from potential French tax exiles;
the Spanish government seems determined to hit the 4.4% deficit target, despite the economic slump this year;
economy minister Luis de Guindos says this would create confidence in the financial markets;
the European Commission dismisses Angela Merkel’s plans to divert unused structural funds to stimulate jobs and growth;
market participants say the ECB’s LTRO will have a very significant effect, but the danger is that policymakers might see this as a signal that they have done enough;
Philip Stephens says that Italy is once again a political power, thanks to Mario Monti;
Hugo Dixon, meanwhile, explains why a merger of the EFSF and ESM will not suffice.
The Troika presented its demands for Greece to qualify for a new loan, Kathimerini reports. Required is some further streamlining of the public sector, including 150,000 layoffs by 2015, no exceptions to the across-the-board pay structure for civil servants, cuts in defense and health spending and the closure of state bodies. The austerity measures also include cuts to auxiliary pensions and the merging of these pension funds into one, an increase of 25% in the taxable property values and €2.2bn in spending cuts this year as well as two or three major privatizations in the second quarter of this year, the cancellation of any discounts or favorable payment terms for money owed to the state, and the reduction of social security contributions by 5%. There is no clear mention of a reduction in private sector wages although the troika does request that salaries become more flexible.
Â
Lucas Papademos is expected to ask the party leaders to ensure that their MPs support the measures though a number of ministers expressed concern about the reaction of some lawmakers. New Democracy’s representatives in the government highlighted the issue of changes to auxiliary pensions, which the conservatives oppose.

gold ... in those mentioned charts gold was projected to 1800 for somewhen in february and 1850 until april ... then a bit south into june.
Silver ... up the whole year.
Now you call for 2000 and then 1600 and then 2200?
Man are you changing your forecasts like your underware?
Friendly hint: that is not trustworthy.
Though in the end it doesn't matter - because in the end only listening to the charts makes the money. As so far I have not yet met a single constantly working crystalball.
Anyway those projections for Gold, Silver and EURUSD are still spot on. And given the amounts of liquidity provided by all major CBs of the world - I have just one doubt - that those projections in Gold (1850 mid year) and Silver (45 end of 2012) are just too conservative.
Gold 2000 and then 1600 again - makes in this environment (oceans of liquidity + election year) just no sense.
My guts telling me that we have some very nice and surprising steady trends this year. Lot's of money can be made - the opposite of 2011 whipsaws. And not 2012 end of the world - but 2013 when everybody thinks everything is well. The bigger pullbacks accordingly 2013 and not 2012.
But of course this is highly speculative and maybe just wishful thinking. Anyway 2012 due to those mega infusions should be a good year for the investment world. We will see.

Republicans Demand Block Of US IMF Funding To Bail Out Europe
Reply

Washington, Jan 25 - Republican leaders of the House Financial Services Committee are seeking assurances from the Obama Administration that U.S. taxpayers will not bear the burden of bailing out debt-ridden European governments.
In a letter sent Wednesday to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Chairman Spencer Bachus, Vice Chairman Jeb Hensarling and the chairmen of the Committee’s six subcommittees ask for confirmation that the Administration will not use taxpayer funds to subsidize Europe’s financial programs through additional contributions to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

methinks the issue is Not having the actual Gold/Silver to deliver at any price.
Bid up the contracts near the delivery window, then crush the price. leaving the longs with the choice of margin calls, or accepting cash instead of the metal. this has happened like clockwork...but of course nobody's looking...and who gives a shite about some lousey speculator getting his head chopped.

CHARTING MARKETS: Euro/Dollar Stresses The Dollar
Reply
(Dow Jones via eFXnews) The shoe is on the proverbial other foot, and it's now the dollar that is in line to get a kicking.
It was not always thus.
On Jan. 13, I wrote in this column that the euro was set up for an eventual test of the 2010 low of $1.1875.
That low was hit when the Greek crisis first got the market into a panic and when the Federal Reserve had not yet launched its dollar-weakening QE2 measures.
But on Wednesday we learned .......
