Greece Warns It Will Soon Be In "Condition Of Absolute Poverty"
Reply
And while the bankers (on both sides of the table) haggle about how to best leech Greece even dryer (with a solution due any hour, day, week now), the actual people are starting to wave the white flag of surrender.
the ESEE does a good job of summarizing what to expect: the "ESEE warns that soon Greece will be in a condition of absolute poverty." And that, ladies and gents, is how Europe slowly but surely reentered the Feudal age, and what every other country in the European periphery that has a massive debt load, and no surplus (actually make that every country in the world), has to look forward to: absolute poverty, aka debt slavery.

Dollar May Not Swim With Data Tide Much Longer
Reply
(Dow Jones via eFXnews) Strong U.S. data, dollar down.
That was the rule for much of 2011. Indeed, that negative correlation between the greenback and U.S. numbers was the anchor of the so-called risk trade.
The transmission mechanism was simple enough: any sign of a stronger U.S. economy merely encouraged investors to take positions in riskier assets. Weakness had them scurrying back to the shelter of the dollar, the broadest shield they'd ever known, no matter that it was weakness in the dollar's home economy.
This in turn meant that .....

Congress.

PMI
data released over the day was mostly positive including the U.S.
Other data included: Australia, China, EZ (flash report confirmed),

keep the pressure on the SNB to weaken the CHF vs. the EUR.

Talk
today that a Greek bailout was imminent did not pan out again.
Officials keep leaking stories that a decision is close, but an
agreement has remained elusive. These rumors have to be taken with a
grain of salt. The spotlight in Europe has been turning to Portugal.
Pressure on the Portuguese bonds has eased today. The 10-yr yield

AUD/USD and NZD/USD outlook next 24 hours: There is the Australian building approvals and trade balance to watch today. AUD retains positive momentum and its break of 1.0690 targets 1.0755-1.0765 next, beyond which 1.0800 should be formidable. NZD has broken above its ascending channel but it remains overbought and momentum is waning, suggesting a reversal is looming. Next resistance is at 0.8380.

Personal Data’s Value? Facebook Is Set to Find Out
Reply

Facebook, the vast online social network, is poised to file for a public stock offering on Wednesday that will ultimately value the company at $75 billion to $100 billion, cashing in on the fuel that powers the engine of Internet commerce: personal data.
The company has been busily collecting that data for seven years, compiling the information that its more than 800 million users freely share about themselves and their desires.
Wall Street’s banks have competed fiercely for a top assignment in Facebook’s offering, a coup that comes with millions in fees and valuable bragging rights. The company has hired Morgan Stanley to serve as its top underwriter, while J.P.Morgan and Goldman Sachs will also be co-leads on the deal, according to people with knowledge
Facebook’s offering is “an American milestone,” said Lawrence H. Summers, the former Treasury secretary, who has been a mentor to Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, and knows Mr. Zuckerberg

This is what I learnt from my losses; the trend and stop loss are your friends no matter what the sentiment, they will never let you down at all times, the entry points to a trade should be at the best possible level, very close to the support/ resistant/ retrace with a 30 pip sl and if you miss it by it not reaching that level, never chase it coz once it turns the entry would be to far from the sl( that was my mistake always itchy fingers). Learnt the hard way. Eg how many pips would have been made with each pullback long entry in gold, euro, aud, nzd etc. The trend is your friend and if not it will surely give you a clear sign that it's changing

Minutes from Treasury meeting discuss the potential for allowing negative yields at bond auctions
Reply
also noted that bid-to-cover ratios remained at healthy levels for all Treasury securities, with particularly high demand for 4-week bills. The elevated bid-to-cover ratios in 4-week bill auctions in late December were related to the rule that bounds bill auction stop-out rates at zero.
The question was asked if it made sense for Treasury to permit bids and awards at negative interest rates in marketable Treasury bill auctions.
DAS Rutherford noted that there were operational issues associated with such a rule change, but that the hurdles were not insurmountable. It was the unanimous view of the committee that Treasury should modify auction regulations to permit negative rate bidding and awards in Treasury bill auctions as soon as feasible. Rutherford noted that any decision on this policy change would likely be made at the May refunding."

I just thought I'd repeat my warning about shorting Euros. It's an extremely tempting trade because of the situation in Europe, but the trade is dangerous because a lot of other traders are thinking the very same thing.
As a result, the selling works for a while. But then price gets squeezed, and people ask themselves "what happened?"
Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't short Euros, particularly EUR/USD. It is, after all, a good short for a reason. However, if you do decide to short it you should always follow good safety practices. Make sure your entries and exits are decent, and use stop orders when appropriate.

I like market squeezes like this - they push it down like retailers are right and then in a snap they go in the trend direction - squeeze moves like this are the fastest as they catch all those over-leveraged and unprepared traders by surprise at the moment they feel like the have nailed it and go to the extreme stretch of the move when most throw in the towel just to see it retrace all the way back...
seen it so many times.
