Martian Central Bank Interested in Buying 100 $1 Trillion Coins

dc CB 21:55 - just a non-tradable fluff. not good even for a chuckle :-(

as long as the underlaying asset is not divisible and deliverable (like Gold) all that you are looking at is just a "credibility" thing of trasding in proxy paper. Credible, in the eyes of the rating agencies means, amongst other things, means govt's ability to reach into citizen subjects's pockets and syphon money. The US, for example, now requires a passport not just for entry, but for exit as well. Note that not declaring and proving source of $10,001+ liquid cash in one's pocket is subject, at minimum, to confiscation upon discovery by govt agents.

Feel like a lobster in a pot yet ?

Martian Central Bank Interested in Buying 100 $1 Trillion Coins
Reply
The $1 trillion platinum coin saga took a surprising turn as the Central Bank of Mars has expressed interest in buying 100 of the proposed coins. Interpreters are puzzling over the meaning and subtexts of the Martian communique; since Martian is described as an often-ambiguous combination of Fortran and Hungarian, this is no easy task.

Opinion on the Martian offer is divided. Some suspect the Martian Central Bank intends to buy the $100 trillion in platinum coins with electronically created quatloos, i.e. worthless currency.

These observers believe the Martians intend to claim the $100 trillion in platinum coins constitutes a claim on the entire U.S.A., the purchase of which would effectively give the Martian Central Bank a massive beachhead on Earth.

The $1 trillion coin saga takes an unexpected twist

Variable winds:Fed hawks get their day in the sun
Reply
.
By Steve Goldstein, MarketWatch
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Two of the year’s most hawkish voting members of the Federal Reserve on Thursday expressed their concerns over the central bank’s loose policy, raising questions about whether the Fed will manage to escape its policy as well as potential bubbles being formed.

The comments, by St. Louis Fed President James Bullard and Kansas City Fed President Esther George, aren’t expected to immediately alter the course of policy
Of the five voting regional presidents that are members of the Federal Open Market Committee, the other three are notably dovish — and there’s also the seven members of the board of governors, including Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, who support the current policy of buying roughly $85 billion of securities every month and keeping interest rates at near zero levels.

However, the views of the hawks do get an airing and are taken into consideration. Already, minutes have shown a reluctance by the Fed to continue bond purchases into 2014.

While George said she supports “low” interest rates, “I also know that keeping interest rates near zero has its own set of consequences.”

“Specifically, a prolonged period of zero interest rates may substantially increase the risks of future financial imbalances and hamper attainment of the FOMC’s 2% inflation goal in the future,” she said.
George warned that actively selling a large amount of mortgage securities may disrupt the mortgage market and said there’s a risk of “announcement shock” from perceptions policy will remain highly acommodative regardless of circumstance.

Bullard meanwhile made more muted criticism of Fed policy. He supported the central bank’s move away from targeting a calendar date on how long the Fed will be buying bonds. But he said replacing it with a target — in this case, a jobless rate of 6.5% — isn’t a “panacea” either.

“The FOMC cannot pretend to target medium- or long-term unemployment,” Bullard told the Wisconsin Bankers Association. “The Committee needs to reiterate that it considers many more variables in attempting to gauge the state of the U.S. economy.”

Bullard expects the U.S. economy to grow 3.2% due to easier monetary policy, reduced headwinds, and reduced uncertainty. George by contrast expects growth of a “bit more” than 2% this year.

In a question-and-answer session, Bullard said he was “a little disturbed” at the direction Japan is taking on currency, according to Dow Jones Newswires account.

SYDNEY Japan has been the land of the rising stock. The Nikkei 225 stock average rose by almost 23% in 2012 — most of that gain coming after the election late in the year. Foreigners boosted holdings of Japanese equities by a net $21 billion in the six weeks before Christmas alone.

  • The Bank of England and ECB policy meeting decisions saw no changes in policies in both cases as widely expected. The Draghi press conference  put to bed any remaning speculation about another ECB rate cut.
  • Te Draghi comments weighed on Major bond markets and gave the EURUSD a completely unexpected lift.  We suspect EUR demand came in part from offset trades to short USDJPY trades taken overnight.
  • JPY stronger on expectations of strong stimulation efforts from Japan.  Speculation by some the BOJ is only giving lip service to PM Abe as a 2.0% inflation target is probably unachievable. Nevertheless, additional fiscal stimulus and quantitative easing are likely.
  • Markets took note of the larger than expected China Trade surplus Tuesday and felt it was a positive omen for the global economy.

There were no surprises in either the BOE or ECB rate decisions as both banks left key rates unchanged. Buffett: US Banks Won't Cause Problems for Economy
Reply
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Billionaire Warren Buffett says American banks are stronger than they've been in years, and won't derail the economy.

Buffett, who is the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., told Bloomberg television that he guarantees "the banks will not get this country in trouble."

Berkshire Hathaway has large investments in Wells Fargo & Co., U.S. Bancorp and Bank of America, and Buffett pays close attention to their condition. Berkshire also holds warrants to buy $5 billion in Goldman Sachs shares.

"Confirm 1667", means a deterministic statement, which has to materialize in the direction of the prediction; 1667 means GOTO 1667 not to 1651:)

The difference between us is, that I shall never trade an account of another person for free or profit, much less of one I know.
You pretend that you are sitting in a control room(maybe near GOD), and from there you predict all moves and issue buy/sell orders.

The EUR and GBP currencies maintain narrow ranges ahead of today's policy decisions from the BoE and ECB with no changes expected in either central bank's key rates. The main focus will be ECB's Draghi post rate decision press conference and whether the door would be open for possible future rate cuts.

Giant Chinese complex raises eyebrows in Mexico January 9, 2013
Reply
.
Construction of the second biggest retail complex for Chinese products outside China will begin in Mexico next month despite environmental and business concerns, a project leader said Wednesday.

The Dragon Mart will be built in a natural reserve near the beach resort of Cancun in eastern Mexico, with more than 3,000 retail spaces plus offices and 722 residences for employees within a 557 hectare (1,376 acre) area. Pushed by Chinese businessman Hao Feng, it will be the second Dragon Mart ever built, after a similar, bigger complex opened in Dubai in 2004. "Why Dragon Mart in (Latin) America? China is one of the countries with the largest, sustained growth in the past 10 years and Mexico and Latin America must consider east-west trade in addition to north-south trade," Juan Carlos Lopez, director general of the project, told a news conference. Some 4,500 Chinese companies are interested in selling their products at the future complex, which could draw one million visitors and $700 million a year, Lopez said. But environmental groups are concerned that the project will cover 418 hectares of a natural reserve. "It contravenes the municipality's environmental protection program," Alejandro Serrano, director of the Mexican Environmental Rights Center, told AFP. The law allows for 25 percent of vegetation to be torn from the area, but the project secured a permit to cut down 35 percent, Serrano said, denouncing a lack of transparency in the permit application process. The company counters that the project is sustainable and was given the green light by the state of Quintana Roo, which is needed to obtain a building permit from the municipality. Mexican businesses are also worried, with the Confederation of Industrial Chambers saying that various national economic sectors have been hit by the competition from underpriced and subsidized Chinese goods. PANIC: One Million AR-15 Magazines On Backorder
Reply
.
According to the gun review site, "Haus of Guns," backorders for the Magpul AR-15 30-round magazine ("PMAG") have surpassed one million.

In a Facebook post dated today, January 9, Haus of Guns writes the following:

"Had breakfast with a buddy who has reasonably close ties to the Magpul family. Word is the great PMAG panic backorder of 2012/13 has topped 1 million at Magpul HQ."

Magpul is a designer and manufacturer of firearms accessories. The PMAG is one of their most popular products. It is a 30-round magazine designed for the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.

Sales of firearms, ammunition and firearms accessories have surged in recent weeks over fears that the Obama administration will soon implement stricter gun laws.

Dianne Fenstien (D-Calif.) plans on introducing legislation that would ban military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Because the PMAG holds 30 rounds, it would fall under the definition of "high-capacity" in the Feinstein bill.

But, before any such legislation occurs, gun enthusiasts are scouring the nation to get their hands on what could be some of the last manufactured PMAGs.

Money for Nothin’ Writing Checks for Free" - William H. Gross Jan 2013

...if ordinary citizens and corporations can’t overdraft their accounts without criminal liability, how can the Fed or the European Central Bank or any central bank get away with printing “electronic money” and distributing it via helicopter flyovers in the trillions and trillions of dollars?

Well, the answer is sort of complicated but then it’s sort of simple: They just make it up. ... .. ... Supposedly they [the US Fed] own a few billion dollars of “gold certificates” that represent a fairy-tale claim on Ft. Knox’s secret stash, but there’s essentially nothing there but trust…$54 trillion of credit in the U.S. financial system based upon trusting a central bank with nothing in the vault to back it up. Amazing!” ...

Editorial: Another Slap on the Wrist
Reply

In the face of widespread evidence of illegal foreclosure practices, federal regulators in 2011 told the big banks to investigate themselves

The banks had to hire consultants to review foreclosures in 2009 and 2010. If violations were found, they were supposed to reimburse wronged borrowers “as appropriate.” Regulators pledged to ensure that the reviews would be comprehensive and reliable. In practice, it was left up to banks to decide what constituted wrongful foreclosure and appropriate redress.

Not surprisingly, after spending an estimated $1.5 billion on consultants, the banks have found little wrongdoing and provided no meaningful relief. Equally unsurprising, regulators will let the banks off with a wrist slap for their failure to execute credible and effective reviews.
