Government Hires Banks to Hold GM Stock Sale

The government, which got its stake in a $49.5 billion bailout of the company in 2009, still holds 300 million shares of GM common stock, giving it 19 percent of the auto giant. Treasury officials revealed hiring JPMorgan and Citigroup on Wednesday in documents posted on the department's website.
The banks will get one cent for every share they sell for a fee of up to $3 million.

The Business Roundtable, which represents more than 200 chief executives from some of the largest U.S. corporations, also urged Congress to add a "premium support" mechanism to Medicare, peg Social Security cost-of-living adjustments to a lower inflation gauge and raise Medicare charges for wealthier beneficiaries.
This strategy for "modernizing and protecting our social safety net" would save $300 billion in Medicare spending over the next 10 years, make Social Security solvent for 75 years and help foster stronger economic growth, the group estimated.
Mr. Dimon, had his compensation halved to $11.5 million in response to the trading loss.

No Inflation In December BLS Says
Reply

The December CPI is out, and according to the BLS, or more specifically, it's X-12 Arima reality processors, there was no inflation in the past month, with headline CPI printing at 0.0%, as expected, and up from a 0.3% deflation in November.
Finally, for those confused why producers see the need to dilute coffee and beer, and add just a little more than the RDS of horse meat to burgers, the reason is that food at home prices increased by 1.3% in 2012, while dining out has gotten a whopping 1.8% more expensive.
That's right: the price of the food you eat at home has increased by 1.3% in the past year - so says the BLS which apparently like the Fed, only eats hedonically adjusted iPads.

The UST 10 year is on the daily at the downward sloping 25 DMA. This will be the first major test. And as it is testing the resistance, we know what USDJPY did today. Off by over 100 pips. Why? Cause it has been watching the US yields on 10 year slowly but surely falling or the prices rising back above the 132. If we 132.1 holds and gets prices below 132.1 tmrw, consider a renewed rally in yen pairs. Similarly for risk trades, this is the main stumbling block right now. But if 132.1 caps this short term rally, we will see ES rally continue to its measured target at 1490 before any meaningful correction

Telegraph's Ambrose Evans-Pritchard believes that if Bundesbank seeks to repatriate some of its gold this could be a sign that trust among central banks is breaking down- Says such a move by Bundesbank could be similar to when France withdrew gold from the US when Bretton Woods collapsed in the early 1970s. - Comments on how it was reported in Oct of 2012 that Bundesbank had in the past cut the amount of its gold which was held at the Bank of England by 50%. - Notes the German Court of auditors has said that the Bundesbank's gold which is held abroad had not been verified. Also, some German lawmakers have said that the gold should be repatriated to protect against an escalation of the financial crisis. - Gold trader Jim Sinclair believes that the Bundesbank move could be a reflection that the US dollar is starting to lose its reserve currency status. - Source TradeTheNews.com
