as well as gdp, japanese foreign investment data is due out tonight, the latter (in advance for the select) took the pair thru 100 last time, so worth watching if there is continued investment in foreign bonds by japanese, its certainly something the market has been watching of late.
on the charts usdjpy looks ready to give up some ground (other jpy pairs looking worse than this one) given stimulus, so in the event of a softer outcome, i am looking for weakness down to 101,20/100,80 region where would be looking to go long, for an eventual move to 103,50.

The problem for us all is that when the house of cards does fall.... then it will be a different kind of world.
You don't maintain nine fully operational Battle Groups just so when things go bad you can have a 'Grapes of Wrath' re-enactment society.
No, you kick the Monopoly Board over, and start over. IMO.

Back to basics is anathema to the financial circus I'm afraid.
Basics is for third world and small people, castles in the sky for those who control the Matrix !
Perhaps U Sam and Japan have an understanding that suits them both.
You keep two or three Battle Groups nice and near and we'll buy your confetti... perhaps something like that.. who knows !

Note U.S. 10-yr creeping up to the 2.00% line. No doubt this has been giving the USD a lift. In our weekend piece, we said that 10-yr rates could start to set the tone in forex markets. This is how the markets gradually start to price out QE.
This will continue unless the broad swath of U.S. data starts to signal that the economy is turning down.

It's tempting to buy EUR/USD, but the problem right now is that it's still going down. On the hourly chart, the pair is still descending. It will be less risky (albeit a bit less profitable) if you wait until the pair starts to go back up before buying.
Otherwise, you are trying to catch a bottom. It's loads of fun, but dangerous to the account...

This may be a bit deep in the weeds for some of us. but we are hearing that AUDUSD shorts are having trouble in the bank market financing their positions at the usual costs. They CAN be financed, but the cost of financing them is high.
Keep in mind, I'm talking about the institutional forex market, which is many, many times larger than the retail market. Whatever happens there filters into the retail market.

by positive economic news, budget deficit reduction and increasing pro-cyclical tendencies. the bank says the greenback is now becoming a yielding currency and traditional high yielders are suffering as a result. The bank says AUD appears the most vulnerable due to deteriorating fundamentals and it remains short of AUD/CAD, along with short GBP/USD and short CHF/JPY and has also entered a short USD/JPY play. AUD/CAD now at 1.0060, GBP/USD at 1.5210, CHF/JPY 105.70 and USD/JPY 102.45. dj

german gdp slightly worse than expected, but still positive at +0.1% should be enough to hold onto 12900 for now, but other data due later which can take it down if bad. if im wrong, large stops below and 12850 on cards.

. GBP/USD - 1.5218... Despite cable's recovery fm Mon's low at 1.5275 to 1.5331 in Asia y'day, the pair remained under pressure throughout the day, price fell below said 1.5275 in European morning due to the steep fall in eur/usd n eventually hit a near 3-week low at 1.5207 in NY afternoon.
. Y'day's euro-led selloff to 1.5207 signals fall fm May's 10-week peak at 1.5607 to retrace recent upmove fm Mar's 2-1/2 year low at 1.4832 remains in progress n as price is now trading below 21-hr n 55-hr emas, suggesting downside bias is seen for further weakness to sup at 1.5197, however, as hourly oscillators' readings have already displayed 'prominent' bullish convergences, steep fall below said lvl is not likely n price shud hold abv 1.5128 (61.8% r of
1.4832-1.5607) n bring a much-needed rebound later. On the upside, only a daily close abv 1.5331 wud confirm a temp. low is made n risk wud shift to the upside for subsequent rebound to 1.5385 n then 1.5426 later.
. In view of abv bearish view, we've exited our previous long position n look to sell cable on recovery for weakness twd 1.5197.
