Hilsenrath has been reminding that FED can either taper or add, something that at least on this forum has not been given any light of day.
If Ben and his companions taper, how long do you give players forcing Ben & Co. to reverse - or is Ben & Co bigger than the bond market ?

Hahhaahahhaah..... nh. Maybe but apparently the financial types are a bit better at it. :-)
Freaking me out the 'public motives' and the possible real motives behind these wars.

Correction: Actually nh - according to the article I linked to - the Syria issue is about dealing with countries which are outside 'the international banking cartel'. Globalisation with hob nailed boots.

Paris ib 19:11 GMT September 11, 2013
The Summers issue...
Actually nh - according to the article I linked to - international the Syria issue is about dealing with countries which are outside 'the international banking cartel'
"countries... named by US General Wesley Clark.... What did these countries have in common? ....they were not members either of the WTO or of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS)."
Summers is the guy who championed financial deregulation in the U.S., something which is now being foisted on the remainder of the world via Free Trade Agreements. So Summers is Obama's choice not by accident. It looks to me like the "taper" issue could be a bit of a distraction.
Summers and Syria
Livingston nh 18:59 GMT September 11, 2013
The Summers issue...
Focus on the taper because it is real money -- the other issues are just noise
Paris ib 18:57 GMT September 11, 2013
The Summers issue...
Just what we need, another hopelessly convoluted process to deal with on top of all the other ones.... so we have 1) taper or not and by how much and for how long 2) the debt ceiling debate and (maybe) resolution which kicks off shortly 3) who replaces Bernanke (signs point to Summers) 4) Syria and the U.S. armada vs. the Russian proposal...... all issues which are murky at best and no real, clear leadership on any of it.
Livingston nh 18:54 GMT September 11, 2013
The Summers issue...
depends on Ben - no taper in Sept makes anybody a good candidate to the Senate - the politics are confusing but no taper means "weak" economy signal -- if Ben tapers as expected things can be dragged out by lame duck president --- more important is debt ceiling silliness - see if the powers that be crush the republican insurgents in the House
Paris ib 18:47 GMT September 11, 2013
The Summers issue...
Thanks nh. Is it likely we will get a decision made before the end of this year? Or is that pie in the sky?

France - Hollande -Budget Deficits
Reply
Reuters) - France is to trim its growth forecast for 2014 from 1.2 percent to 0.9 percent and hike its budget deficit projections for this year and next, reflecting a slower-than-hoped recovery, Les Echos newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The government now targets a public deficit of 4.1 percent of output this year, up from an earlier forecast of 3.7 percent, and 3.6 percent next year, up from an initially projected 2.9 percent, the business daily said on its website of official 2014 budget projections due to be unveiled later.
The widely expected new forecasts, revised from April, put the government's projections more in line with those of the European Commission and the bulk of independent economists. France will thus be taking advantage of an extra two years given by the EU to rein in its deficit to below 3 percent of output in return for commitments to economic reforms.
Les Echos said the 2014 budget plan would show that 15 billion out of the total 18 billion euros of fiscal effort in 2014 would come from spending curbs, with the remainder from a rise in taxes. The full budget is due on September 25 but headline figures are expected to be announced later on Wednesday.

Obama looking for a way out or way in?
Reuters is beating the war drum with a trumped up headline about a U.N. report (which is merely the result of interviews with exiles and refugees abroad). The market is ignoring this (rightly). But the push for war has not stopped entirely. Short of an actual attack this issue may move to the back burner for the time being.

15745/50 should now act as support. caveat at these levels is that we are well above the daily bolli and this kind of event is very short erm, so a fresh new high on the day may be difficult. equally this does not suggest a collapse, a trigger would be needed given the positive data and sentiment, so should be supported at above mentioned level. if not, you are looking at a pretty big daily wick and a short term top. so the support level is of significance.

Obama looking for a way out or way in?
Reply
Obama's speech sounds to me like a man looking for a way IN to a conflict: 1) minimise risks 2) suggest short intervention 3) deny possibility of war escalation. This man would never get anyone to agree to an attack if he outlined the real risks of armed conflict or suggested that the evidence against Assad was flimsy. All we have is a delay, so for now short term trends continue but don't fall in love with any of your positions in this type of environment.
Coming up: FOMC meeting, TIC data next week.

Dollar strengthens against yen as tension on Syria eases
The U.S. dollar rallied against the Japanese yen on Tuesday as prospects of a U.S. military strike against Syria eased after Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said that his government had agreed to a Russian proposal to place its chemical weapons under international control.
Versus the yen, earlier in Asia, despite initial retreat from Australian high of 99.76 to 99.47 in Asian morning, price started to rise as industrial production and retail sales from China added to signs that the world's second largest economy is recovering from a slowdown. Later, the greenback penetrated Monday's high of 100.11 in European morning and then climbed to a fresh 1-1/2 month peak at 100.47 in New York as the easing Syrian tension boosted investors' demand for riskier assets.
Data released from China on Tuesday showed that retail sales rose unexpectedly in August, while Chinese industrial production increased more than forecast last month.
The single currency retreated against the dollar after edging higher from Asian low of 1.3250 to 1.3276 at European open, however, failure to penetrate Monday's New York high of 1.3281 prompted profit-taking and the pair fell to 1.3230 before staging another bounce to 1.3275 in New afternoon in part due to cross-buying of euro versus yen. (Eur/jpy rallied to a fresh 3-1/2 month peak at 133.31)
Despite cable's sideways trading below Monday's high of 1.5733 in Asian trading, the British pound found support at 1.5686 and later rose above this resistance to a fresh 11-week high of 1.5745 in New York afternoon on cross-buying of sterling before easing.
Data to be released on Wednesday :
Australia Westpac consumer confidence, Japan Domestic CGPI, Germany CPI, HICP, U.K. claimant count, ILO unemployment rate, average earning, U.S. wholesales inventories, wholesale sales.

SeaWorld Entertainment is cutting back work hours for some part-time employees, a move that will help it avoid an Obamacare mandate to offer those workers health insurance.
The amusement-park operator on Monday confirmed in a statement to the Orlando Sentinel that it planned to limit work hours for some of its 18,000 part-time and seasonal employees to 28 hours per week, down from 32 hours, beginning in November.
