It is said that his nomination faced opposition from women's groups.
Possibly the next chairman will be a lady or a sensitive gay:)
(T. Geitner too refused this job.)

Morning Madness >>>Sell AUD
As a trader you quickly learn to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Another quote I recall from one of our lecturers you are more likely to get a high AUD from a Coalition government than one from Labor.
Look back, the post-float low for the AUD was under the Howard government and high under Gillard.
Governments have only a minor or fleeting impact on markets.

last thought on this. He was Treas Secy under Clinton...and bringing this up would have besmerched the memory of "Bill" as that Great President during the HeyDay of American Prosperity... and worse than that cast some serious doubt on the future/next Great Clinton's candidacy for Pres in 2016...as SHE is now back on the Scene vying for that Top Office in the great American Political Scam.

I can't say that I am happy to be right here, because I took a tiny profit and left this tiresome position.
Hope you abandoned your's on time.

I spent AUD 25k and two years of my time at Macquarie University doing a Masters Degree in Applied Finance. The basis of the course which the lectures hammered home was the market was populated with rational investors.
This morning's market is totally irrational.

As The Telegraph reports, ex-BIS Chief Economist William White exclaims, "All the previous imbalances are still there. Total public and private debt levels are 30pc higher as a share of GDP in the advanced economies than they were then, and we have added a whole new problem with bubbles in emerging markets that are ending in a boom-bust cycle."
Crucially, the BIS warns, nobody knows how far global borrowing costs will rise as the Fed tightens or “how disorderly the process might be...

Summers would have had to appear before the Senate Banking Committee and faced pointed questions about his past as Treas Secy and his role is eliminating regulations that lead to the crisis. He would have had to face Elizabeth Warren, Jon Tester, Serrod Brown and Jeff Merkley.
No doubt his role in setting the stage that allowed for the crash, now seeminly forgotten, would be brought to the fore. And with Summers reputation for "prickliness", one can only imagine how that session would go.
It would also have caused some to wonder Why the O had him as an economic advisor during the crisis, ad just added to the negatives that are piling up for the O.

- HIGH
IMPACT ITEMS: EZ- CPI, US- Industrial Output
- The major focus this week will
be the Fed policy decision this Wednesday. Markets are already set up
for the central bank to announce a reduction in its asset purchase
program. From a trading perspective, the big surprise would be no
reduction in debt purchases.
- We feel Bernanke will start the
Fed taper cautiously and will cut its $85bln in asset purchases by
$10-15 bln initially to see what happens.
- The apparent leak in Nikkei
News that President Obama is ready to nominate Larry Summers to replace
Bernanke as Fed Chairman when his term runs out looked like a trial
balloon. Its purpose might have been to find out how strong the
opposition was to his appointment and if he can be approved. Don't
count out Janet Yellen yet.
- Additionally it might have been
an attempt by the administration to change the subject from its
bungling of the situation in Syria.
- Tuesday sees U.K. and U.S. CPI
data. The latest German ZEW survey is slated as well. Wednesday sees
U.S. Housing starts, then Existing Home Sales will be released on
Thursday. Thursday also features U.K. CPI data. On Friday Canadian CPI
data are released. On Sunday Germany will hold what look to be closely
contested national elections.
- For additional key items and
more detail (dates, times, data estimates), be sure to reference our Economic
Calendar . See the FOREX FORUM
for latest key data and charts as they are released.
