euro struggling to make fresh gains against dollar, both sides of the cross have their own problems, but think there are enough stale longs to run stops by end of week. Fed Releaseses pose serious problems
Reply
As if the Federal Reserve’s no-taper decision wasn’t complicated enough, speculation that some traders may’ve gotten word of the decision earlier than they were supposed to is gaining traction.

Eric Hunsader, founder of Nanex, a Chicago firm that studies and distributes stock-market data, issued a report on Friday describing what he called “the great Fed robbery.” Mr. Hunsader, a longtime critic of high-frequency trading, says a bunch of trades took place faster than the few milliseconds it typically takes for the Fed news to be disseminated to various parts of the country.

The upshot: Some folks may’ve learned about the decision before everyone else did. “There is simply no way for Wall Street to squirm its way out of this one,” Mr. Hunsader says.

In his harshest words to date on the subject, New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman said that early releases of private, market-moving data to premium subscribers amount to “insider trading 2.0.”

Schneiderman said “small, insidious groups” of ”market manipulators” were unfairly paying for early access to data feeds “in a way that distorts our markets far more than Albert Wiggins or Gordon Gekko could ever have imagined.”

Euro slips on concerns over economic recovery in euro zone

The single currency weakened against the greenback on Tuesday after German sentiment data came in slightly below expectations and comments from ECB officials saying they were prepared to do more to keep interest rates low.

Although the single currency traded sideways in Asia and rose briefly to session high at 1.3519 in early European morning, euro retreated after the release of weaker-than-expected German business climate and dropped to an intra-day low at 1.3464 after comments from ECB's Coeure. However, euro pared intra-day losses and rebounded to 1.3497 in New York morning before stabilising.

Germany Ifo business climate (Sep) came in at 107.7, versus the forecast of 108.0, previous reading is revised to 107.6

ECB's Coeure said 'ECB is committed to make sure liquidity will remain ample; LTRO is part of ECB's instruments.'

Versus the Japanese yen, the greenback rose to session high at 99.18 in European morning after comments from Fed's Dudley yesterday increased speculation that the Federal Reserve could still taper its bond purchases this year. However, dollar met renewed selling there and dropped sharply to an intra-day low at 94.48 in New York morning but only to climb back to 99.01 later in the day due to renewed cross-selling of yen.

The British pound remained under pressure in Asia and dropped sharply in early European morning after the release of weaker-than-expected U.K. mortgage approvals. Price eventually fell to an intra-day low at 1.5955 at New York open, however, cable pared intra-day losses and rebounded to 1.6016 in New York morning.

On the data front, U.S. consumer confidence (Sep) came in at 79.7, worse than the forecast of 80.0, previous reading is revised to 81.8. U.S. Redbook retail sales came in at -0.4% m/m n 3.6% y/y.

Did you watch star trek ... time travel, warp speed, etc. ... there are many "obvious" explanation so why we keep insisting on the speed of light ... go to sleep ... nite :)

The Fed now cares about Nanex's report that trades on the "release" of the decision happend before the speed of light made it possible?

Gee, who leaked from the lockup? Obviously someone.

So now The Fed is "asking" eh?

Why are they asking anything of anyone? Go to the exchange and subpoena the identity of the traders who placed the trades, then charge them criminally and civilly.

If a financial institution is implicated charge that institution criminally as well.

That which is physically impossible is physically impossible.

If the traders would like a 50% reduction in their prison time they can rat out the "news" entity that gave them the information.

These guys think they were cute in programming their computers to wait until exactly 2 PM.

They forgot that it takes 7 milliseconds for light to travel from Washington DC to Chicago, and the trades went off in that window.

That's physically impossible -- unless you had the information before 2 PM.

Oh, So The Fed NOW Talks About Cheating?
