Yes, it's not the unfunded wars, the unpunished banker rip-offs, the rigged markets, the statistical lies that support monetary policy AKA Free Money to WallStreet - the 85bln a month, NOOOOOOOOO

It's the piggishness of the Middle Class.

Two months ago we were the first to highlight the 'real' great rotation in US equity markets as so-called "professionals" were selling in size as "retail" was the big buyer.
Since then, market breadth has been weaker and the new highs are made on the back of fewer and fewer supposed "cult" stocks (as Cramer so aptly put it before Lumber Liquidators started to crumble).

Perhaps the most infamous of the "cult" stocks is TSLA. At twice the market cap of Fiat, needing to sell 537,815 cars to meet expectations, and the gap in GAAP, Tesla closed at all-time highs on Friday. So who is buying?

WASHINGTON — Since 2010, the National Security Agency has been exploiting its huge collections of data to create sophisticated graphs of some Americans’ social connections that can identify their associates, their locations at certain times, their traveling companions and other personal information, according to newly disclosed documents and interviews with officials.

U.S. budget and debt follies a bore

The focus of the next few weeks in the U.S. will be on the U.S. government budget impasse and the debt ceiling vote. They ALL are a bunch of fools. The Republicans are ready to run the bus off the cliff while the Democrats and the President refuse to do anything to reform out of control government spending. We've seen this charade multiple times in the past. They will run the clock out until the last minute and then finally come to an agreement. The Press loves it because it gives them something to write about. Expect them to over dramatize the nonsense. It all becomes quite tedious.

Fed ready to blink?

We get the feeling that the Fed MAY be getting the message that their communication strategy is a mess. Debating policy in public is not transparency. Transparency is sending a single clear message to the markets and then following through on that message. It is also sending a new signal when it is clear that the market has gotten its message wrong. It the past, Fed Chairmen have selected a "voice" in the press through which everyone knew was speaking for the central bank. That way, the impact of major policy decisions could be anticipated by the markets and the "announcement effect" minimized. Th silence has been deafening

As we stand now, the Fed still is employing a "Tower of Babble" policy with Fed officials continuing to muddy the waters as each new speaker steps up  and contradicts the others. We believe that policy now is pedant on  future economic data. The major focus this week will be the employment report on Friday. We feel it is unlikely the Fed will react to a single employment report this Friday no matter what the outcome.

Week Ahead Calendar

The week ahead will be especially heavy on the data front. The early part of the week will see a slew of final PMI reports for September, plus the quarterly Japanese Tankan Survey. The markets watch the PMI reports closely even though they are not as good predictors of key economies as some might hope. Wednesday through Friday will see a number of U.S. employment reports. Street estimates currently are for a lackluster 180K increase in U.S. jobs in the month.
