A report released Friday predicts the price of fruits and vegetables could rise as much as 34 per cent in the next year, hitting the pocketbooks of British Columbians hard.

Poloz, who will be presenting the central bank's Monetary Policy Report on Oct. 22, also said a lot of the price hikes Canada has seen recently were temporary and should be ignored in setting monetary policy.

It is only noise and 34% ain't much. After all energy and food prices don't count in 'core' CPI, eh Poloz ?

After an unusually quiet week, rest of the month sees an active data news calendar. Monday gets off to a quiet start with Japan, Canada and the U.S. closed for holidays. Tuesday sees Key U.K. inflation data and the German ZEW Survey.

U.S. tolerance of weaker euro not limitless, experts say

...“I don’t think U.S. tolerance [of a weaker euro] has a long shelf-life, “ said Timothy Adams, a former Treasury official in the George W. Bush administration

"Expert" Anshu Jain, co-chair of Deutsche Bank, told an IIF panel discussion that he expects the stronger dollar trend to continue.

And Axel Weber, chairman of UBS, (another "expert") said the same thing on another IIF panel, saying the euro would fall to $1.20.

On the other hand - in a true economist fashion - "expert" Harvard economics professor Martin Feldstein told an IIF panel that the higher value of the dollar would only trim U.S. GDP by a “nick”.

World economies warn of global risks, call for bold action"

Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew complained that governments in Europe, Japan and China were failing to deliver needed support.

"European leaders should focus on recalibrating policies to address persistent demand weakness," Lew

Japanese officials needed to carefully calibrate budget reductions and "move decisively to implement requisite growth-boosting structural reforms."

"Countries with external surpluses and fiscal flexibility" needed to do more to boost growth." .../..
