...The dollar pared its gains, however, after St. Louis Fed President James Bullard said in a television interview with Bloomberg that the Fed might want to keep its bond-buying program running for longer than anticipated given a drop in inflation expectations.

Analysts said the comments fueled the British sterling's rise against the dollar, since it bolstered the view that the Bank of England could tighten monetary policy before the U.S. Fed, even though Bullard said that he still viewed a rate hike in the first quarter of next year as appropriate....RTRS

Do You Want to be a Successful Forex Trader? Part Two
Reply

In Part one we discussed the importance of having a business plan and suggested a strategy that would help achieve it. In Part one we focused on the revenue side. In Part two, the focus will be on the cost side, perhaps the most important factor in being a successful trader. As with any business, revenue has to exceed costs to be profitable. It is no different in trading.

This currency has printed a big figure for 17 days in a row. As long as this pattern continues, pick out the big figure (e.g. 1.27, 1.28, etc) and it show you the risk.

This may sound confusing but is a good way to make an educated guess where the currency may be headed.

Buyers beware, the bear market has begun: Gartman

The selloff in global markets is set to continue as a bear market takes hold "for a long period of time," according to widely followed investor Dennis Gartman, who warned investors not to go long on stocks.

Internally, Athena called the algorithms that traded in the last few seconds “Gravy.”

By using high-powered computers, complex algorithms, and rapid-fire trades, Athena manipulated the closing prices of tens of thousands of stocks during the final seconds of almost every trading day during the Relevant Period.

Although Athena was a relatively small firm, it dominated the market for these stocks in the last few seconds. Its trades made up over 70% of the total NASDAQ trading volume of the affected stocks in the seconds before the close of almost every trading day.

"Eurozone industrial production fell sharply in May, notching a 1.1 percent month-on-month decline that was led by a drop in the production of intermediate goods such as vehicles as well as non-durable items such as food.

Although it sounds trivial, a calendar issue likely exaggerated the drop in industrial production. When bank holidays fall on a Thursday in Europe, workers tend to take Friday off as well to have a long weekend. But official statistics still count the Friday as a full working day, which puts a damper on output. Over the past 30 years, Eurozone industrial production has contracted an average of nearly 2 percent in May in years when May Day occurred on a Thursday."

Another look at those numbers

Maybe Helicopter BEN and Heli Yellen should go back to the original idea and just drop $100 bills over the area where the economy is not performing so well. Drop $ 100 bills over Detroit and people will move back to the city , keep dropping $100 bills and more people will move to the city ,ultimately more people will be living in Detroit and the dropping area will become more popular than Wallstreet.

CURRENT CONDITIONS: Risk-Off

16:15 GMT- Current Market Conditions:
As of the European close, markets were moving into a MIXED RISK OFF posture as traders waited to see if equities were in the process of finding a bottom. Most are cautious.  Far East equities closed lower today.  Bourses in Europe ended mostly weaker. U.S. shares are now mixed, but confidence remains shaky.

In overseas activity, trade in the U.S. 10-yr remains volatile, but most of the decline in yields since early Wednesday erased. 10-yr yields in the bund and gilts have rebounded as well.. The sharp spike higher in Greek yields this week has not gotten much play, but has been worth watching.

CB I would like to think that the psychopaths in charge (everywhere by the way) are losing control of 'the narrative' and the street. People are so fed up with these clowns. And with the internet we have such a hugely different access to information. I mean even just Amazon provides you with this vast library which wasn't even thinkable once upon a time.

So it's a shambles in the back rooms and the news rooms and all the usual hang outs of the psychopaths. No-one believes anything and no-one TRUSTS these people. The default position is that everything you hear from official channels is either a lie or a half truth. Makes it hard for the deviants.

"The European Central Bank said it will reduce the risk premium on Greek collateral submitted by banks, while denying it’s acting in response to market turmoil.

“The decision foresees that the current haircuts are lowered, in view of the overall improved market conditions for Greek government-related assets since 2013,” an ECB spokesperson said in an e-mailed statement today. “The decision should by no means be viewed as an ad-hoc reaction to the most-recent market stress.”

Greek bonds have plunged and yields have surged this week amid a global market slump and concern the government won’t be able to fund itself adequately if it sticks to plans for an early exit from an international bailout program. The change in collateral policy for government and government-guaranteed debt eases access to liquidity for Greek lenders."

In these volatile conditions, I hope it goes without saying that it makes sense to adjust your leverage downward from what it was in more stable conditions. We currently are trading at the mercy of equity markets which can move suddenly and sharply with no warning. It is no picnic to be on the wrong side of one of those movements.

Keep in mind that the JPY is the ultimate carry trade currency. That means that Hedge Fund type traders for decades have been FINANCING their asset purchases in JPY. So when those assets are sold, JPY has to be purchased to pay off those loans. We pointed this out re the EUR yesterday, but the JPY has been the KING of carry trade financing for decades.

This is one of the financial distortions perpetua Quantitative Ease (QE) generates.

of course it doesnt say anything about future developments it is still important to notice when to consider where market may move if set-up is right.

08:45 GMT- Current Market Conditions:
Markets remain in a RISK-OFF posture following the sharp sell-off  in U.S. equities yesterday following a number of items that by themselves should not have triggered such a violent response.. Far East equities closed mostly lower today.  Bourses in Europe are mostly weaker. U.S. share futures are higher, but confidence is still shaky.

In overseas activity, trade in the U.S. 10-yr remains volatile. The plummet in the yield yesterday was particularly troubling for many for what it implied. It is currently yielding 2.081%. 10-yr yields in the bund and gilts remain remarkably low as well today. Peripheral bond yields are higher. The sharp spike higher in. Greek yields this week has not gotten much play, but is worth watching.

Intra-Day Market Moving News and Views

16 Oct 2014 02:08GMT

USD/JPY - ..... Dlr is nursing loss after yesterday's brief but sharp fall to a 5-week trough of 105.20 as release of a surprise sharp drop in U.S. retail sales (September monthly sales fell 0.3% vs forecast of -0.1%, previous reading was +0.6%) proved to be the 'catalyst' for a broad-based sell off in global stocks with the Dow having fallen 458 points after the data.
The broad-based weakness in global equities also triggered sharp fall in the Nikkei futures (N225 futures closed down 535 points) led to active buying of yen on risk aversion.
Although recovery in U.S. stocks plus rebound in the benchmark 10-year U.S. treasury yields (10Y had one of the biggest intra-day moves in over a decade fell from 2.20% to 1.85%, lowest since mid-2013) lifted dlr to 106.40 on short-covering, price moved narrowly for rest of NY afternoon session.

The lack of a movement in Tokyo trading is a surprise, no bargain hunters, no short-term specs selling dlr on stop-hunting etc suggests buyers & sellers are evenly balanced.
Although Nikkei is currently trading at a 4-1/2 month low of 14763 (down 310 points), yen is weak on the crosses, suggesting range trading would continue in Asia as traders are on the sideline.
Offers are noted at 106.30/40 and more above with stops above 106.70. Initial bids are reported at 105.80-60 area with stops touted below 105.20.

Thursday will see the release of New Zealand's manufacturing PMI, consumer inflation expectation, eurozone trade balance and CPI, U.S. initial jobless claims, industrial and manufacturing output, NAHB housing market index, Philly Fed business index, Net L-T flows and overall capital flows.

Pretty busy night to say the least and you couldn't expect Asia to really be able to decipher what it all means in one session.

I'd imagine $yen is going to be offered every 20 points and stops aren't going to be a factor till 107.30 +

on the downside 105.50 probably provides a temporary bottom just simply due to the speed of the move.

If I can say one thing about last night - the USD was getting sold heavily about 30-45 minutes before the numbers then everything else kicked in and that just led to a waterfall .. so it really was a fix if you ask me.
