JP- It is always valuable to understand how the markets you trade in work.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Zero Hedge and Nanex have been posting about HTFs for years. And I've been linking to those post here on GV. You mean you have to wait until CNBC talks about HFTs ...but they are only "admitting" that they are active in the Stock Market...when they are in EVERY MARKET.

This is all so convient and it's being latched on but the MSM and the FBI????(good lord), to deflect attention away from, the REAL MANIPULATOR... and the Big Banks that really don't need to use HFT to make their money...the get the money to make trades Free from the FED.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
From ZH:

Many are scratching their heads wondering how it is possible that with all of today's economic data misses the stock market not only ignored all the relentless bad data, as it has for the past 5 years (yes, yes, the weather, we know) but managed to surge to a new all time high. Not us:

today's reverse repo was amounted to just $113 billion, a $130 billion liquidity release from the Fed's reverse repo operation in one day!

So while QE may have tapered to a "measly" 55 billion per month, on just the first day of April risk assets experienced the additional benefit of over two full months of QE injected into the stock market in one single day!

This Is Where Today's Buying Deluge Came From

Risk appetite remained strong despite the mixed bag of global economic data during the past day. US manufacturing PMI disappointed but construction spending and small business sentiment beat expectations. Eurozone unemployment edged lower. The Shanghai Composite closed up 0.7%, Eurostoxx 50 up 0.8%, and the S&P500 is currently up 0.5%.

Late in European trade, prices in fixed income markets are mostly mixed following a slew of mixed manufacturing PMIs today. The next major event will be ECB meeting on Thursday, Today has developed into a mild "risk-on" session with the odds of monetary tightening seemingly starting to fade from view.

European equities are ending higher. The peripheral European bond prices are mixed. U.S. equities are up. The U.S. 10-yr was last at 2.75%, +1 bp.

ZH:

Yesterday was window dressing day (facilitated at just the right time by Yellen's most dovish commentary to date) not only for the hedge fund and vacuum tube community, but also for banks, which as we reported received a record $242 billion in Treasurys from the Fed via an all time high reverse repo. Which means that today, as the repo unwinds, the system will be flooded with over $100 billion.

This brings us to the topic of what stocks may do today - while futures are already solidly in the green, perhaps on the abysmal Japanese Tankan results, or China's Schrodinger economy, which has been growing and contracting ever since 2012, and posted PMIs that both beat and missed, or maybe it was the record high Italian unemployment reported overnight - will likely focus on just one thing: how to frontrun April performance in the first millisecond of trading.

The AUDUSD completed a major bottoming formation, in the form of an inverse head and shoulders pattern through breaking the neckline of the pattern around 0.9090.

The breakout of the pattern extended to reach 0.9280-resistance level, near the potential ascending resistance for the rising channel shown on the daily chart, where we have seen some hesitation recently, as price formed a minor shooting star candle, hinting there could be potential for a downside pullback.

For further confirmation, waiting for a break back below 0.9215-short term support level could confirm this pullback scenario, targeting a retest of the broken neckline of the pattern and the support region among 0.9130-0.9090.

Note that even if we witness a bearish correction, the bullish outlook shall remain intact, as the ideal target of the Inverted head and shoulders is near 0.9500.

Alternatively, if price managed to take 0.9280-level, the rally may extend further and delay any downside pullback, targeting 0.9385 and 0.9435

We posted part the RBA text because they continue (indirectly) to talk down the AUD. Its unusual, but it happens, for a central bank to talk down its currency. Note below that Chinese PMI data were weak. A slowing Chinese economy is a weight on Australian growth and a negative for the AUD.

Monetary policy remains accommodative. Interest rates are very low and savers continue to look for higher returns in response to low rates on safe instruments. Credit growth is slowly picking up. Dwelling prices have increased significantly over the past year. The decline in the exchange rate from its highs a year ago will assist in achieving balanced growth in the economy, but less so than previously as a result of the rise over the past few months. The exchange rate remains high by historical standards.

Looking ahead, continued accommodative monetary policy should provide support to demand, and help growth to strengthen over time. Inflation is expected to be consistent with the 23 per cent target over the next two years.

In the Board's judgement, monetary policy is appropriately configured to foster sustainable growth in demand and inflation outcomes consistent with the target. On present indications, the most prudent course is likely to be a period of stability in interest rates.

Check out Tankan chart below, the final item on the chart is the respondents FORECAST for the readings for early July. Clearly there a lot of worry about the impact of a 5% sales tax increase that went into effect today. Many seeing the economy weakening in response to it. Today continues to see a slew of final global PMI data which have generally have been mixed to weaker than 4Q13 and 1Q14 peaks. Early in European trading hours, prices in prime fixed income markets are mixed to lower as mixed PMI data are being released. As of this hour, today this looks to be shaping up as "risk-on" session, as equities in the Far East closed mildly poasitive and European shares are gaining. Peripheral European bond prices are mostly higher. U.S. equity futures are stronger following dovish Yellen comments on Monday.

March 2014 Manufacturing PMI

uk manu pmi dipped but still pretty much at 3 year high, so taken into perspective not too bad. still you feel that while 16688 caps, we may need to revisit 16605 again. while on upside i dont expect to see 16740/50 taken, quite possibly into nfp on friday.

UK PMI

Quotes from Lloyds Bank:

-Today's UK manufacturing PMI wil l provide the latest assessment of domestic growth prospects. Despite both softer production and new orders indices, the headline PMI index rose to 56.9 in February from 56.6. The rise reflected an acceleration in the pace of hiring as some firms reported signs of capacity constraints.

-While this suggests activity remains robust, preliminary readings of international manufacturing sentiment suggest activity softened in March. We expect this to be reflected in the UK manufacturing PMI and look for a small drop to 56.8 from 56.9.

-However, even at this level it is consistent with a solid quarterly rise in manufacturing output of around 1%. Official figures have recorded average growth of around 0.7% in the past three quarters and we expect a similar outturn in Q1.
