The overnight session was mixed. The highlight event, the ECB meeting, failed to deliver any additional stimulus but Draghi left the door open to such if inflation remains weak.

HIGH IMPACT NEWS ITEMS: DE- Factory Orders, CA/US- Employment

The major focus of the week is the March U.S. Employment on the Friday Ope, ADP Private Jobs data on Wednesday along with other closely followed reports supported the view that a solid (+225-250K) reading is possible for the month. Of course no one can reliably predict this report. See the FOREX FORUM. for data releases, charts and comments from experienced traders to events as they happen. .

Maybe the # is 225k?

Dollar should be supported into NFP based on these forecasts but have to average the March # with 1st two months of the year. Jan 129k and Feb 175k. Would need +265k to get to an avg of 190k. .

From what I hear 190k is the average NFP growth

Yep almost worth a punt on a bad number will have to see how dice fall before number but most now have moved above 200k with 210-225 avg whisper. Some had 250+ a couple weeks ago to be fair eg. Eg DB raised to 275 from 225 20th march fwiw

Mtl JP 17:46 GMT April 3, 2014

lets skip the "depends".

regardless of the 250K being bandied about now by one or two opinionators a print over 200K should see dollar pop up some.
If I look at the rolling average, print at or below 165K would probably make players re-evaluate Janet's tapering calendar

Fixed Income Snapshot

Late in European trade, prices in fixed income markets have turned higher following the unchanged ECB policy decision and better than expected U.S. data. It appears that news today diminished expectations for additional central bank support for key economies.

Equities in the U.S. and Europe are mixed to lower and this have supported prices in the fixed income markets. The next major event will be March U.S. Employment data on Friday. European equities are ending mixed. The peripheral European bond prices are higher. U.S. equities are lower. The U.S. 10-yr was last at 2.76%, -4 bp.

Early in European trading hours, prices in prime fixed income markets are broadly lower again after the advance Wednesday in U.S. shares. This has mostly carried over into overseas markets in the Far East and Europe.

Heading into the ECB today, expectations for no policy changes seem to be mounting. This looks to be a half-hearted "risk-on" session. Peripheral European bond prices are weaker. U.S. equity futures are steady.

Russia should switch to ruble payments with all trading partners - head of VTB Bank
Reply

The head of VTB Bank has urged Russia to start transitioning to ruble payments with all its trading partners, including China and Western Europe, adding that export companies should lead the way in adopting the change.

It makes sense for Russia to make the switch to rubles, president and chairman of VTB's management board, Andrey Kostin, said at the XXV Congress of Russian Banks Association on Wednesday, Vedomosti newspaper reported. He added that the switch should begin immediately.

Kostin explained his thinking by pointing out the West’s recent calls to isolate Russia's economy by virtually destroying the nation’s banking sector with dollar payments.

He stressed that half of Russia’s exports and less than half the country’s imports target eurozone countries and the dollar zone.

Exports by companies such as Gazprom, Rosneft, and Rosoboronexport add up to almost US$230 billion a year, he noted.

VTB Deputy President Herbert Moos also added that while the sanctions against Russia are unlikely to sufficiently impact the business, it could be affected by the continuing weakening of the ruble. The Russian currency has been falling in the wake of the situation around Crimea.

In addition, Kostin said that Russia should develop a national payment system as soon as possible.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced last week that Russia should create its own national card payment system, following the examples of China and Japan. The move came after Visa and MasterCard stopped servicing some Russian banks as part of the sanctions implemented against Russia following the Crimean referendum.

Russia’s biggest lender, Sberbank, said on Monday that the PRO 100 payment system, which has been in development for a couple of years, will be launched on a massive scale within months.

The West has been pressuring Russia with various types of sanctions. The most recent examples include the US House of Representatives voting strongly in favor on Tuesday of sending aid to Ukraine, supporting a $1 billion loan guarantee for Kiev, and imposing sanctions against Russia for its actions over Crimea.

NATO also announced on Tuesday that it is suspending all military and civilian cooperation with Russia over the Ukrainian crisis.
