Stocks Getting Whacked Again as Selloff Resumes
Reply
In yesterday’s Morning MoneyBeat Asia, we suggested that Wednesday’s rally quite possibly may have been the proverbial “dead-cat bounce.” That appears more likely watching the market today. U.S. stocks are under fire again on Thursday, with the NasdaqNDAQ +0.03% Composite in particular getting shellacked. The tech-heavy index is down about 2.8%, with the broad S&P 500 off about 1.7%, and the blue-chip Dow off 1.3%.

US equities came under renewed downward pressure. The leaders were again technology and small company equities, considered by some to be overvalued. The Nasdaq Composite is down 3.1%, the Russell 2000 is down 2.6%, and the S&P500 is currently down 1.9%. US interest rates and the US dollar fell in sympathy, despite decent US economic data.

Anyone surprised that USDJPY is not below 101.00-20?

Market has been rewarding higher yielding currencies rather than punishing them as would be typical in a risk off market. S&P is about flat on the year.

Risk of Ukraine siphoning off gas that intended for Europe
Reply

(AP) -- Russia's President Vladimir Putin has sent a letter to 18 European leaders urging them to offer a quick financial assistance to Ukraine to prevent a shutdown of Russian natural gas to much of Europe.

In a letter released Thursday by the Kremlin, Putin warned that Ukraine's mounting gas debt is forcing Moscow to start demanding advance payments for Russian gas supplies. He warned that if Ukraine fails to make such payments, Russia's state-controlled gas giant Gazprom will "completely or partially cease gas deliveries."

Putin told the leaders that a possible shutdown of Russian gas supplies will increase the risk of Ukraine siphoning off gas that intended for Europe and will make it difficult to accumulate sufficient reserves for next winter.

AUD and JPY are bullish due to weak US Dollar

The risk to the markets is that the Fed has it wrong - this tendency is what causes the chaos accompanying the introduction of new Chairman to the Fed - FOMC is losing another governor the end of May and still short members - institutional memory is fading // April is the cruelest month but May could be the most dangerous (adult unemployment is 5.4% and may dip further by summer) - a too soft Fed can be as dangerous as a too tight Fed

john the minutes confirmed one big thing:
FED's interference, 6-yrs later, still has the system on the edge of a precipice.

GVI Forex john 11:46 GMT April 10, 2014
Your Best Trade Today

Fed Minutes yesterday illustrated the impossibility of calendar-related rate guidance by central banks. Lets face it, the central banks are no better than the rest of us at seeing the future. Policy should be data-dependant and it cannot be related to what someone thinks the data will be a year from now. The people who run the central banks should not have to be told that!

So the basic message of the Fed Minutes yesterday seems to have been that Yellen's six month comment was made off the cuff and was not policy. Hopefully she has learned now that the Fed Chair is not in a classroom and should not be thinking out loud about policy. I might have thought with her experience that she would already have known this?

As a result the yield on the 10-yr note has fallen to as low as 2.65% today. Recall the 10-yr spiked to 3.00% when the "tapering" was first announced. So policy in future will be data-driven and traders will have to be cognizant of the general pattern of economic data for major economies.

The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee at its meeting on 9 April voted to maintain Bank Rate at 0.5%. The Committee also voted to maintain the stock of purchased assets financed by the issuance of central bank reserves at £375 billion.

The Committee reached its decisions in the context of the monetary policy guidance announced alongside the publication of the August 2013 Inflation Report.

The minutes of the meeting will be published at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday 23 April.

Notes to Editors

The previous change in Bank Rate was a reduction of 0.5 percentage points to 0.5% on 5 March 2009. A programme of asset purchases financed by the issuance of central bank reserves was initiated on 5 March 2009. The previous change in the size of that programme was an increase of £50 billion to a total of £375 billion on 5 July 2012.

Waiting for the Bank of England policy decision at the top of the hour. Trouble is currently that they do not tell us much. They just provide the rate decision and Change or not in QE. The meeting minutes come out in just under two weeks time. I believe it won't be long until Governor Carney institutes a long overdue policy statement immediately after the meeting. The market is set up for no policy changes today.

Fixed Income Snapshot
Reply
Early in European trading hours, prices in prime fixed income markets are broadly higher following Fed minutes yesterday that
seemed to back away from the signal by Chair Yellen after that meeting which seemed to indicate that a policy tightening could
come in just over a year's time.

Equity markets are mostly higher. Far East markets closed uo and Europe is higher. U.S. equity futures are steady. The U.S. 10-yr is 2.67% -1bp.

soooo... judging from Yellen's compulsion to re-iterate that she and her gang have intentions of keeping rates low for yet long long time then banking and/or economy are still on the edge of precipice and nevermind their interference and meddling 's (non) effect 6+ years later

Japan Feb machine orders came in at -8.8% m/m and 10.8% y/y, vs the forecast of -2.6% and 17.5%.

Fed's Tarullo says 'monetary policy can help improve potential rate of growth of U.S. economy; reducing labor market slack can help boost demand and productivity, reduce income inequality; Fed is well-advised to proceed 'pragmatically' given uncertainty over labor market slack; Fed should not preemptively try to head off inflation based on potential increase in structural unemployment; given recent modest growth, a sudden upward spike in wages of inflation is "less likely"; monetary policy cannot be main tool to fight long-term economic challenges but it is not irrelevant.'

Forex Forum

The Global-View Forex Forum is the hub for currency trading on the web. Founded in 1996, it was the original forex forum and is still the place where forex traders around the globe come 24/7 looking for currency trading ideas, breaking forex news, fx trading rumors, fx flows and more. This is where you can find a full suite of forex trading tools, including a complete fx database, forex chart points, live currency rates, and live fx charts. In addition, there is a forex brokers directory where you can compare forex brokers. There is also a forex brokers hotline where you can ask for help choosing a forex broker that meets your individual fx trading needs. Interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading.

Forex News

The forex forum is where traders come to discuss the forex market. It is one of the few places where forex traders of all levels of experience, from novice to professionals, interact on the same venue to discuss forex trading. There is also the GVI Forex, which is a private subscription service where professional and experienced currency traders meet in a private forex forum. it is like a virtual forex trading room. This is open to forex traders of all levels of experience to view but only experienced currency tradingprofessionals can post.

Currency Trading

Currency trading charts are updated daily using the forex trading ranges posted in the Global-View forex database. You will also find technical indicators on the fx trading charts, e.g. moving averages for currencies such as the EURUSD. This is another forex trading tool provided by Global-View.com.

Forex Brokers

The forex database can be used to access high, low, close daily forex ranges for key currency pairs, such as the EURUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, GBPUSD, USDCAD, AUD, NZD and major crosses, including EURJPY, EURGBP, EURCHF, GBPJPY, GBPCHF and CHFJPY. Data for these currency trading pairs dating back to January 1, 1999 can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Forex Trading

Forex chart points are in a currency trading table that includes; latest fx tradinghigh-low-close range, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci retracement levels, daily forex pivot points support and resistance levels, average daily forex range, MACD for the different currency trading pairs. You can look on the forex forum for updates when one of the fx trading tools is updated.

FX Trading

Global-View also offers a full fx trading chart gallery that includes fx pairs, such as the EURUSD, commodities, stocks and bonds. In a fx trading world where markets are integrated, the chart gallery is a valuable trading tool. Look for updates on the Forex Forum when the chart gallery is updated.

Forex Blog

Global-View.com also offers a forex blog, where articles of interest for currency trading are posted throughout the day. The forex blog articles come from outside sources, including forex brokers research as well as from the professionals at Global-View.com. This forex blog includes the Daily Forex View, Market Chatter and technical forex blog updates. In additional to its real time forex forum, there are also Member Forums available for more in depth forex trading discussions.
