CB Good and valid points well made.

I was thinking on a smaller scale ie. a position floating at the time of a suspension assuming zero notice period, would remain in stasis until the market re-opened.

A gap of a few hundred pips, or more, would have no respect for a stop-loss.

That said, these gaps always seem to respect TPs.... Hmmmm.

Funny that !

JP, a trade call can be specific with entry/stop/take profit or can be to state a bias, key levels and what would change the bias.

For me, choosing the strong aside to trade is more than half the battle and then look for good risk/reward setups and where to place a stop.

In all case, stating the rationale for the trade is very helpful.

EUR/USD moved slightly higher to challenge the resistance bar of 1.3845 (R1). A clear move above that hurdle may confirm the rebound from the 1.3790 (S1) bar and probably challenge the resistance of 1.3900 (R2). A break above those highs would signal the continuation of the upside path and perhaps pave the way towards the 1.3965 (R3) obstacle. Our momentum studies provide mixed signals. The RSI started following an upward path, but the MACD remains near its neutral line.

Its looking to me like traders are already hunkering down for the holiday break, which will extend through Monday for some centers in Europe. There has not been much follow through on the U.S. gains in stocks late Wednesday. S&P futures are currently -4pts from late Wed.

Canadian CPI data today should not be market-moving with the Bank of Canada already having announced its latest policy decision yesterday.

U.S. Jobless Claims are always closely watched, however falling jobless claims seem not yet flowing through to increased employment. Expect the U.S. effectively to close down by the late morning today.

Bottom-line liquidity should thin as the day wears on, especially as few will want to run positions into an illiquid period with tensions remaining high in Ukraine.

The cynic in me does note the French collaboration with the UK and the US in the weird and sudden attack on Libya, so I do wonder what team they (the French Ministers) are batting for.... European Industry? or the U.S. Hegemony? The French establishment is probably as corrupt as the U.S. establishment. And that's saying something. As for Draghi... jury is out.

Riskier assets on the rise after dovish Yellen – Danske Bank

2014-04-17 06:49 GMT - FXStreet.com

RiskFXStreet (Edinburgh) - Chief Analyst Lars Christensen noted the dovish tone from Yellen’s speech benefited the risk-associated space.

Key Quotes

“All major US stock market indices ended up in yesterday’s session on the back of positive reports on the US economy in the Federal Reserve’s so-called Beige Book and fairly dovish comments from Fed chair Janet Yellen”.

“The USD has weakened overnight on the back of Yellen’s dovish comments”.

“Emerging Market stocks have also benefitted from Yellen’s dovish comments and the hopes of more Chinese economic stimulus, which at least for a day have been overshadowing the continued bad news out of (eastern) Ukraine”.

U.S. dollar ends little changed after Yellen says Fed committed to policies to support recovery

U.S. dollar showed muted reaction after Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen said Fed committed to policies to support recovery even as policy makers now see the economy reaching full employment by late 2016.

Yellen said in a speech in New York that 'the larger the shortfall of employment or inflation from their respective objectives, and the slower the projected progress toward those objectives, the longer the current target range for the federal funds rate is likely to be maintained; this approach underscores the continuing commitment of the FOMC to maintain the appropriate degree of accommodation to support the recovery.' Yellen also said wage gains are proceeding at a 'historically slow pace,' and the chances of inflation rising above the Fed's 2% goal were 'significantly below the chances of inflation persisting below 2 percent'. U.S. equities maintained gains after Yellen's comments.

U.S. dollar rose against the Japanese yen to 102.37 due to improved risk appetites. Bank of Japan governor Kuroda said 'inflation expectation rising as a trend while long-term rates moving stably due to BoJ's massive bond buying; want to pull end deflation at an early date by steadily continuing with current QE policy; BoJ has no intention of monetizing government debt, keeping JGB yields low just to ease fiscal burden and regardless of prices move; too early to debate exit from QE now but when time comes, will do so using most appropriate measure at the time; strongly hope government continues to proceed with efforts to restore fiscal health.'

The single currency ratcheted higher to 1.3851 in Europe on Wednesday partly on active cross buying in euro especially versus as global stock markets rebounded, however, profit-taking offers below previous daily res at 1.3864 knocked price lower to 1.3804 before trading sideways in New York.

UK unemployment rate fell to a 5-year low at 6.9% from previous reading of 7.2%. However, selling interest below Feb's 4-year high at 1.6823 capped cable's upside and price moved sideways in New York session.

They're trying to amp this up but it looks like the Ukrainians don't want this. What you got left is the mercenaries, the CIA, the special ops weirdos and the Neo-Nazis. What a collection. The Ukrainians aren't fools. George Soros and his colour revolutionaries may have to go back to the drawing board.

US financial showdown with Russia is more dangerous than it looks, for both sides
The US Treasury faces a more formidable prey with Russia, the world's biggest producer of energy with a $2 trillion economy, superb scientists and a first-strike nuclear arsenal

The United States has constructed a financial neutron bomb. For the past 12 years an elite cell at the US Treasury has been sharpening the tools of economic warfare, designing ways to bring almost any country to its knees without firing a shot.

Talks a Chance for Russia to Step Back on Ukraine
Reply

GENEVA — The high-level talks on Ukraine that are set to begin here on Thursday have emerged as a pivotal test of Russia’s intentions in the region before the United States and European nations decide whether to impose additional economic sanctions on Moscow, American officials said on Wednesday.

Probably these talks are time wasting.

The Russian side is winning against the Kiev Gov. without a fight.
No winner will give away his spoils just like that.

Nato, can't do much, but only risking that some Nato soldiers may defect to the insurgent side too.

So this will be the end of Nato!

The risk is only from the American side, which may push later for military escalation.

When ‘Liking’ a Brand Online Voids the Right to Sue

Might downloading a 50-cent coupon for Cheerios cost you legal rights?

General Mills, the maker of iconic cereals like Cheerios and Chex as well as brands like Bisquick and Betty Crocker, has quietly added language to its website to alert consumers that they give up their right to sue the company if they download coupons, “join” it in online communities like Facebook, enter a company-sponsored sweepstakes or contest or interact with it in a variety of other ways.

Instead, anyone who has received anything that could be construed as a benefit and who then has a dispute with the company over its products will have to use informal negotiation via email or go through arbitration to seek relief, according to the new terms posted on its site.

In language added on Tuesday after The New York Times contacted it about the changes, General Mills seemed to go even further, suggesting that buying its products would bind consumers to those terms.

GBPUSD
Entry: Target: Stop:

Watch GBPUSD 1.6820 (just broken, new 2014 high) to see if it becomes support as that is what is needed for a strong BOD and expose 1.6850-1.7000

On downside, back below 1.6800-20 would be needed to neutralize the risk.
