Agree or Disagree? EURUSD

It is Ascension Day on Thursday and most European countries are closed. This means long weekends for many and along with a Friday month end it will be a thin end to the week.

Factor this into your trading as market will likely be defensive the next few days while hopefully turning offensive next week.

Right now it is the invisible hand vs. the world in the EURUSD.

CB interesting. Of course it works and will continue to work while everyone agrees that the Emperor's clothes are of the finest quality !

Here there is an operation that goes by the name of 'the Co-operative'. It was a society formed (maybe 150 years )to help working people to buy basics at a survivable price. They would otherwise have to buy that which was needful from the company owned stores.... you know how it goes... St. Peter don't ya call me 'cause I can't go, I owe my soul to the company store...

Now.... the Co-operative have had a day of reckoning ! Their ill fated foray into the world of finance/banking has given rise to losses measured in billions ! So now, they are selling farms and other non-essentials... that is... er... non-essential to a major food retailer...

You couldn't make it up.... why no-one gets dragged out and put up against a wall... who knows, I don't.

According to the most recent CapitalIQ data, the single biggest buyer of stocks in the first quarter were none other than the companies of the S&P500 itself, which cumulatively repurchased a whopping $160 billion of their own stock in the first quarter!

...............if the corner office knows sales and Net Income (not EPS) will be weak in the quarter, they will tell their favorite broker to purchase $X billion of their shares with no regard for price: the only prerogative is to reduce the amount of shares outstanding and make the S in EPS lower, thus boosting the overall fraction in order to beat estimates for one more quarter.

Here Is The Mystery, And Completely Indiscriminate, Buyer Of Stocks In The First Quarter

  • Late in Europe, yields in prime fixed income markets are generally lower and thus in  risk-off posture ahead of the ECB in just over a week.  Yields on bonds on the periphery of the Eurozone are mostly lower.
  • Equities mostly fell in the Far East earlier today. European bourses are ending higher.  U.S. equities are higher.
  • The U.S. 10-yr is 2.54%, -1bp from Friday.

The heat map color scheme of interest rates reflects yields. This aligns all the colors in the chart to reflect risk-on (green) and risk-off(red).

Entry: Target: Stop:

Silver declined during the European morning Tuesday, to hit the support barrier of 19.23 (S1). The white metal seems to be trading within a sideways range between that support and the resistance of 19.50 (R1). A clear break below the 19.23 (S1) support level could trigger further bearish extensions and target the barrier of 19.00 (S2). The MACD lies below both its trigger and zero lines, confirming todays bearish momentum. I would ignore the oversold reading of the RSI, since the indicator is still pointing down and it may stay within the extreme territory for an extended period of time.

Don't Leave Yourself at the Mercy of the Forex Market

The melt up is accelerating and with the momentum tailwind back, newsflow is once again irrelevant: any news that is even remotely good is trumpeted, and any bad news - such as Europe's right storm rising in the northern states, and left storm surge in the states that demand more handouts from the northern states or China sinking a Vietnamese boat, the most serious bilateral incident since 2007 - are once again (and as usual) nothing more than a catalyst for hope for even more liquidity injections. End result: the S&P futures this morning are 5 points above Goldman's year end target of 1900 and 45 points away from its June 30, 2015 target. Can this breakneck scramble on zero volume continue until Grantham's bubble peak level of 2,200 is hit? Well of course: after all anything goes in the centrally-planned new normal.

Agree or Disagree? EURUSD

This sums up a holding pattern week awaiting key events next week.

The early part of this week will see European markets digest the results of the EU parliamentary elections. The results are not expected to substantially alter expectations that the ECB will loosen monetary policy at its June meeting. Moreover, there is little in the euro area calendar today or indeed the rest of the week that is likely to impact on such expectations. Instead, markets will be looking to preliminary May inflation readings next week, ahead of the ECB policy meeting.

Risk On/Off Heat Map
Reply

  • Financial markets should quickly return to normal today with London and New York back from Monday holidays and Mario Draghi sending dovish signals yesterday for the ECB meeting next week.
  • Early in Europe, yields in prime fixed income markets are generally lower after the weekend parliamentary elections appeared to be a vote in favor of economic stimulus. Yields on bonds on the periphery of the Eurozone are lower.
  • Equities mostly fell in the Far East earlier. European bourses are mixed.  U.S. equity futures are higher.
  • The U.S. 10-yr is 2.55%, +2bp from Friday.

The heat map color scheme of interest rates reflects yields. This aligns all the colors in the chart to reflect risk-on (green) and risk-off(red).

Bitcoin Bots and Ponzi?
Reply
It needs to be recognized that, whether intentional or not (though plausible ignorance only goes so far), Mt. Gox has effectively been abusing Bitcoin to operate a Ponzi scheme for at least a year. The November bubble well into the $1000?s and possibly Aprils as well was driven by hundreds of millions of dollars of fake liquidity pumped into the market out of thin air (note that this is equivalent to with depositors money). It is only natural that the Bitcoin price would deflate for around 5 months since its December peak, since there was never enough fiat coming in to support these kind of prices in the first place.

USD/JPY- 101.93

Despite yesterday's initial gain to 102.05 on improved risk appetite due to the rise in Nikkei-225 index, the greenback retreated to 101.84 in thin trading conditions as U.K. n U.S. were closed on Monday.
Bids are now located at 101.80-75 and more at 101.65-60 with stops only seen below 101.60.
On the upside, offers are now tipped at 102.05-15 and more at 102.30-35.

A piece of yesterday's news worth mentioning again, Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Kikuo Iwata said in a speech in Tokyo on Monday that an economy "with low real growth rates under mild inflation" is possible.

U.S. will release its durable goods orders, house price purchase index, Markit US services PMI n consumer confidence data at 12:30GMT, 13:00GMT, 13:45GMT n 14:00GMT respectively.

I posted this Monday on GVIForex

Monday's Tradibng Outlook
GVIForex Jay Meisler 14:25 GMT 05/26/2014 - My Profile
EURUSD: Current risks

if 1.3656 breaks => then 1.3688 (1 & 4 hour res) at risk (using 1.3734-1.3614, 1.3660 = 38.2%, 1.3674 = 50%, 1.3688 = 61.8%)

if 1.3614 breaks, then risk to 1.3600 (rumored bids) => 1.3559-62 (next target)

We wil find out how much of the recent fall had to do with ECB and how much to do with EZ elections although the latter was never seen as a game changer risk. Market has not had a real correction since it started to fall, much depends on whether stops are resting above the market.
