US interest rates extended a two-week rise, supporting the US dollar. Nevertheless, AUD and NZD performed well, EUR the main loser. US data was minor (small business sentiment, wholesale trade, job vacancies) but did beat estimates. The S&P500 consolidated just below the record high, currently down 0.2%.

JP// unhappy depends...

A) Is someone unhappy because they are experiencing a consequence in that case it is not an emotion. It would be a sentence.

OR

B) Are they unhappy because they cannot get what is not theirs and will never be theirs in which case they become angry... develop envy, avarice, etc...

In other words emotion is simply an expression of thought.

Red// Not knocking military service. hell!! They wanted to draft me in the EU when I was a teen but I found a way to stay out of it!!! =)))

Anyhow's, all these qualities are instilled by proper upbringing too and also the inner urge of a person, now I was not in the army but I am never late nor am I undiscipled etc.

It's too cruel to be in the army and in some or many cases the result is PTSD, the effect in trading is that it prevents you from trading and sometimes a losing streak can set it off.

Army is good in many ways but then just depends on what one wants to do, it should be voluntary not compulsory, no offense mate but I have a lot of friends in the army too.

Going against laws on Nature is not unique to Asia
-
here is a blast from the past:

Legendary Wall Streeter Bob Farrell Had A Quote That Described This Market Perfectly

U.S. stocks are at all-time highs.

But Jeff Saut cited by Art Cashin, the veteran NYSE trader at UBS calls this an "unloved rally."

To explain the dynamic, Saut draws on legendary Merrill Lynch strategist Bob Farrell, who said the following in 1989 (via Cashin).

It's all about how everyone is unhappy: economists, money managers, and technical analysts.

Money managers are unhappy because 70% of them are lagging the S&P 500 and see the end of another quarter approaching. Economists are unhappy because they do not know what to believe: this months forecast of a strong economy or last months forecast of a weak economy. Technicians are unhappy because the market refuses to correct and gets more and more extended. Foreigners are unhappy because due to their underinvested status in the U.S., they have missed the biggest double-play (a big currency move plus a big stock market move) in decades. The public is unhappy because they just plain missed out on the party after being scared into cash after the crash. It almost seems ungrateful for so many to be unhappy about a market that has done so well ... Unhappy people would prefer the market to correct to allow them to buy and feel happy, which is just the reason for a further rise. Frustrating the majority is the markets primary goal.

What's it going to take, folks?

No chance of USD weakening this year boys...

Hurricane season is just around the corner... Oil will take a hit... And they need to import much more from other countries in order to recover from the economic and social damage that oil speculation causes and possibly even the physical damage of possibly 3-6 or so hurricanes this year, plus there is OPEC throttling oil supplies (to increase their profits) to other countries that usually replenish their oil wells this time of year etc...

The theme this year is to hold on to your shorts!

  • Markets continue to  have a mild, but mixed risk on posture into the  European close..
  • Yields in European fixed income markets continue to converge with German yields up while yields on the periphery have turned mixed in the wake of the targeted ECB policy ease last week.
  • U.K. yields are slightly  higher along with The U.S.. The U.S. 10-yr is 2.64%, +1bp.
  • Equities closed mostly higher in the Far East earlier, although the Nikkei fell. Bourses in Europe are mostly higher. U.S. shares are  modestly lower.

syd sf 11:48 GMT June 10, 2014

well it has to do alot with time and delta.

on day 1 - you have 6 more days to buy and sell - so if you buy at 1.3535 you can wait for a rally to 1.3600 to sell

but on day 7 if you have a 1.3550 strike - then you need to buy 30-40 and sell 60-70 - as it is more likely to trade in a smaller day range.

the more people that have the strike the more people that buy and sell and it gets locked in a range till expiry time... until there is no more profit to make... with price converging around the option price.

DNT are alot more complicated because of option protection buying and selling - and the $$ amount involved.

Notice EURGBP bounced twice today off its .8061 second support level. Pivot point support/resistance levels do not always work but they can provide useful parameters for what is a reasonable magnitude for a move under current conditions.

1,3500 could be protected but by DTCC biggest strike expiring today is 1,3600. almost 1,9 billion will expire today. next strike by size is 1,3550 where expires 1,6 billion today.
at 1,3500 there is "only" 1,1 billion running off today.
if to look calls and puts separatelly then biggest Puts at 1,3550 worth 1,5 billion
most likely euro will trade close to 1,3550 or above at 10 am NYC time

Post solid UK production data, The EUR has slipped vs. the GBP. Note on the heat map table that a divergence is developing between US & UK vs. German 10-yr bund yields.

Logically, the DAX has been making new record highs on the back of the ECB policy ease and a weaker EUR. This is what the ECB intended. The EUR is also lower across the board on its major crosses.

Too often the forex market moves with an inexplicable lag.

  • Markets have a mild, but mixed risk on posture early in Europe.
  • Yields in European fixed income markets continue to converge with German yields up slightly while yields on the periphery continue to fall in the wake of the targeted ECB policy ease last week.
  • U.K. yields are slightly easier along with The U.S.. The U.S. 10-yr is 2.62%  -1bp.
  • Equities closed mostly higher in the Far East earlier. The Nikkei fell. Bourses in Europe are mixed. U.S. equity futures are lower.

The heat map color scheme of interest rates reflects yields. This aligns all the colors in the chart to reflect risk-on (green) and risk-off(red).

April UK industrial production and manufacturing data are due out later in the morning. Manufacturing output rose by 1.4% in Q1 - its strongest three-month increase since October 2010. The recovery was largely driven by an increase in domestic rather than overseas demand, with goods exports contracting by 1.3% q/q. Looking to April, the signals are mixed. The manufacturing PMI slipped back a little, albeit from a still elevated level, while the CBI orders balance was also somewhat weaker. While we are positive on the prospects for manufacturing, we doubt the Q1 pace can be sustained - specially given euro area conditions and sterling strength. Overall, we look for April manufacturing output to have risen by 0.2% m/m, with risks to the downside. Industrial production is forecast to have risen 0.3%, as mining output rebounds after an unusually weak March.

Calls for fairness, greater equality at international conference

MONTREAL A fairer, more egalitarian world economic and financial system received much support Monday at least rhetorically at the launch of the 20th annual Confrence de Montral.

Whats more, Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) endorsed cautiously and conditionally the notion of a carbon tax or a cap and trade system.

Lagarde, who received an honorary degree from the Universit de Montral, said at the International Economic Forum of the Americas that the very concept of growth must be redefined and reinvented.

From China to the U.S., from Germany to Japan, the array of methods of the engines of growth are being re-examined and are changing the economic landscape, she told a luncheon audience. ..../..
