just a general comment of my own on the GBP - on the hourly top appears 1.7095
if we see a move back through 05/07 then we may just fall into a range and no point selling too low anymore.
also this pair is riddled with data this week - so hard to fall in love with a position.

Citi is up some today, almost like slapping n spitting Eric in the face.
======================================
the setttlement was a gift. it allowed C to post an earnings beat.
DOJ gets billons, C gets to post "good" earnings. all is good, the Cops on the Beat have been paid off. so no slap, no spit, just one hand washing the other.
C is up because it got the All Clear to keep in doing it for another Quarter...BOOOONUS.
ZH explains (and predicted it.)
Earlier today, moments after hearing that Citi would incur a near-record $3.8 billion Q2 charge as part of a $7 billion settlement ....., an announcement which came literally minutes before its Q2 earnings announcement, we knew precisely what was about to happen: (TWEET Citi's $3.8 billion "one time, non-recurring charge" comes just in time to save Q2 non-GAAP earnings)
Sure enough, moments after we sent this out we learned that Citi magically beats consensus EPS of $1.05, reporting a non-GAAP number of $1.24. The only problem: reported GAAP EPS was a laughable $0.03. Where did the bulk of the company's net income come from? Why the "one-time, non-recurring charge" of course: $1.21 of the $1.24 in Citi EPS was thanks to the "punishment" the government just served it with.

the resolution of South Sea Company
"The newly appointed First Lord of the Treasury Robert Walpole was forced to introduce a series of measures to restore public confidence. Under the guidance of Walpole, Parliament attempted to deal with the financial crisis. The estates of the directors of the company were confiscated and used to relieve the suffering of the victims, and the stock of the South Sea Company was divided between the Bank of England and the East India Company. A resolution was proposed in parliament that bankers be tied up in sacks filled with snakes and tipped into the murky Thames.[30] The crisis had significantly damaged the credibility of King George I and of the Whig Party."

U.S. AG Holder slams Citigroup, warns of possible criminal charges
By Ciara Linnane
July 14, 2014, 10:37 a.m. NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said the Department of Justice's $7 billion settlement with Citigroup Inc. C +3.60% announced earlier Monday does not absolve the bank or any of its employees from potential criminal charges. Speaking at a press conference to outline details of the settlement, Holder said the bank's misconduct was "egregious," that it knew of serious and widespread defects in the increasingly risky loans it was securitizing, but sold them to investors, including federally-insured financial institutions regardless. "And they made false statements to investors, in marketing materials, and even in documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. They led investors and the public to believe that these financial products had been originated in compliance with the law and key underwriting guidelines when this was often not the case," he said. The bank's conduct had devastating effects on economies and financial institutions across the globe, he said

How to turn gold into a currency???
[email protected] - CBs do not need to be selling Gold in order to turn "big profit"
Note that, for example, BIS is a big GC player.
At bottom of their heart bankers know what value as collateral accessible Gold represents. They know that, at ultimately at some point, their army will want their salaries to be paid in Gold to remain loyal. Something fiat (currency which derives its value from government regulation or law declaration) can not do.
Do you know anyone who would like to be paid with a 1923 10 Billion German Marks (Zehn Milliarden Mark) banknote ?

How to turn gold into a currency???
The idea behind is simple. If a CB has much gold it bought at higher prices, and which gives no interest, it can mint attractive gold diluted money coins with sufficiently high nominal value, such as of disposing of their gold hoard with a big profit.

Jul 14, 2014 Reuters - Citigroup Inc said it agreed to pay $7 billion to settle a U.S. government investigation into mortgage-backed securities the bank sold in the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis.

Citigroup said on Monday it would pay $4.5 billion in cash and provide $2.5 billion in consumer relief.
