The Only thing that counts is USD/JPY

Market doomsayer Marc Faber: Gold will rally 30% in 2015

“I’m positive [that] gold GCG5, +0.06% will go up substantially [in 2015] — say 30%,” Faber, whose investment letter is called the Gloom Boom Doom Report, said at Société Générale’s global strategy presentation in London on Tuesday.

“My belief is that the big surprise this year is that investor confidence in central banks collapses. And when that happens — I can’t short central banks, although I’d really like to, and the only way to short them is to go long gold, silver and platinum,” he said. “That’s the only way. That’s something I will do.”

JP - ECJ - in the BIG PICTURE like most things in the EU zone opinions are just that opinions because "Sovereign is Sovereign" (see the difference between authority and power) // so countries that break the deficit level, budget constraints or whatever get taunted, excused or in most cases given more time // in the specific irrelevant matter re OMT the German Constitutional Court paid homage to the Sovereign is Sovereign rule by kicking it over to ECJ (so GCC wouldn't need to make an unenforceable ruling) - tomorrow's opinion is not a final ruling but a "suggestion" by the Adv Gen BUT any ruling on OMT is not relevant to ECB implementation of QE because that is a different issue (most judicial systems have more technical (i.e. procedural) rules than the NFL has for simple things like pass catching and fumbles) - only the executives in most polities have the ability and responsibility to enforce broad judicial declarations so enforcement is always a political calculation

The classic executive response is the near apochryphal response of US President Andrew Jackson to a Supreme Court ruling "[Chief Justice] John Marshall has made his decision; now, let him enforce it."

Tomorrow's "ruling" is a tempest in the teapot but if Draghi is smart he will use any excuse to avoid QE quagmire

The one thing that the deviants have done this past two decades is undermine trust. Trust in market transparency, trust in governments, trust in the media... and trust has to be the one thing which we all crave more than anything. Without trust there are no more human relations. We are all alone.

Anyway rant over. Truth will out. Trust will be restored and some will be shown to be swimming naked.

No way . Mario prefers to play Master of the Universe.

And I think but I am not sure, the president of the ECB earns a higher salary than the president of Italy.

When oil prices go to $ 150 ,central banks focus on core inflation.

When oil prices go down to $20 ,central banks focus on falling oil prices and forget core inflation.

Consistency ?

mkt looking for lower than f/c +0.1m/m 0.7y/y. to stay below 200 hour ma currently 15125, mkt needs 0.6 or 0.5 y/y as a 0.7 is pretty much baked in and could even spur a slight rally which should be capped by 1.52 in such a case. if we get the 0.5 or 0.6, theres a double top set up on the hourly thru 1.51 which would take us to recent lows, at which point buyers may step in given the position with the dollar is as much a foregone conclusion as before.

Exclusive: Oil glut spurs top traders to book supertankers for storage at sea

(Reuters) - Some of the world's largest oil traders have this week hired supertankers to store crude at sea, marking a milestone in the build-up of the global glut. ... The more than 50 percent fall in spot prices now allows traders to make money by storing the crude for delivery months down the line, when prices are expected to recover.

The price of Brent crude is now around $8 a barrel higher for delivery at the end of 2015, with its premium rising sharply over spot prices this week due to forecasts for a large surplus in the first half of this year, in a market structure known as contango. .../..

Intra-Day Market Moving News and Views

GBP/USD - ...... Cable shrugged off early release of weak U.K. retails sales and rebounded in tandem with euro due to intra-day renewed weakness in the greenback in Asia.

Reuters reported U.K. retail spending growth slowed in December after consumers splashed out on November's "Black Friday" bargains and prices continued to fall broadly, industry data showed on Tuesday.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) said year-on-year retail spending was 1.0% higher this December than a year ago, the weakest December growth since 2008 and a sharp contrast with November's 2.2% jump.

Falling prices also weighed on spending. Shop prices were down by an average of 1.7% in December compared with 2013, the BRC said last week. Broader official data due for release at 09:30GMT is forecast to show consumer price inflation at a 12-year low of 0.7%.

Taking lower prices into account, retail sales volumes rose an annual 2.6%, the same as in Dec 2013. Retail spending on the BRC's like-for-like measure -- which excludes new stores n more closely reflects how stores report sales to shareholders -- were 0.4% down on the year.

Tuesday will see the release of Japan's Current Account and Economic Watchers Poll, China's Trade Balance, Exports and Imports, Italy's Industrial Output, U.K.'s BRC Retail sales, CPI, PPI, RPI, U.S. Rebook and Federal Budget on Tuesday.
